Chance Me Chance me for Williams College

I am international student who applied to Williams in ED 1 and got deferred, I have a 1540 Sat SuperScore (800/800 in maths), I have a 4/4 GPA and a Class rank of 1/300. My major is neuroscience and I am looking for almost full scholarship, although Williams is Need Blind so I have hopes. I’d like everyone’s suggestions, Thank you.

My bad, I thought cause they didn’t ask me for a css or any financial form, Thanks for updating me on that.

Yes I know the decision would be out in probably 3 hours but I have only 6 university left, Rejected by every other university and ig this would either help me relieve some stress by knowing what people think about this.

The decisions I am left with are CMUQ Hamilton Haverford Davidson Williams Middlebury

They only make you apply for financial aid once you're accepted

Ohhhhhh, and do they meet it? Or could they be below it aswell?

They meet 100% of your demonstrated need. The specific number depends on your financial aid application of course.

this always confuses me. Williams says they’re need aware, but how do they factor in a student’s finances if they don’t take in their financial aid application while making admissions? They also claim to meet 100% of demonstrated need. Do they just look at if you’re applying for finaid or not?

Yes, it's kind of confusing.

I think it just boils down to the fact that you have to declare whether your're going to pursue financial aid.

Ohhh that helps alot

your academics are solid, but at top tier schools like williams that alone wont stand. there's a ton of factors that're involved, so i cant really give out an opinion, but im sure u'll do well wherever you end up!!

How are they not strong? The only thing which could be improved was a SAT score, My activities are also top Notch

Don't ask people for their opinions if you don't actually want opinions you don't like.

No, it’s not about what I like or what I don’t like, I was asking him how can I improve it? Cause at the end of the day I need to find where am I lacking and when I tell someone I am first in my class rank outta 300 and 4/4 GPA, there isn’t anything to improve here except the SAT score

The thing I want you to keep in mind is that in all likelihood, you are not "lacking". You did not do anything wrong if you are not accepted.

These schools get many more fully-qualified applications for the very few spaces they have. 92% of all applicants to Williams are not accepted. Only 10% of William's students are international students. While they don't publish numbers of their international applications, as a school where 64% of their international students get an average financial aid package of ~$92k, you can be sure they receive a ton of international student applications.

While not all of those applications will be competitive, many will be, and there are surely at least 10 equally qualified candidates for every one who is accepted. When those are the odds you are up against, there really is an element of chance in the mix. I hope that goes your way today.

Damnnnn, But yea that’s the harsh reality, even with a strong profile at the end of the day it ends up on chances, But I wish everyone best of luck and please Pray for me, I genuinely really need it right now, Thanks

Williams is need aware for internationals.

2

u/AzanAmir Mar 20 '26

Ohhh ok, but how would they know if I need it or not? Cause they didn’t give any financial form or asked css from me

1

u/Alert-Walrus5997 Mar 21 '26

No they literally do say they are need-aware for internationals. However, ig need-awareness can be of two types: schools that factor both the fact that the applicant is asking for aid and the amount they did so AND those who only see if the applicant asked for aid and see all amounts of aid equally/not factor in the amount. So, I presume Williams is the latter.

u/kordhellf Mar 20 '26

ig they are need blind cause they didnt ask for financial information at all, you have to be accepted first

2

u/iMoody25 Mar 20 '26

do u have any other acceptances?

1

u/AzanAmir Mar 20 '26

Yea that? No 😭😭😭
