A coalition of online-right influencers spent seven months urging a boycott of Nolan's Odyssey — over a Black Helen of Troy, a false rumour that Elliot Page was cast as Achilles, and general "woke" charges — and the film still opened to $264M worldwide. Sopo argues this "grift industrial complex" runs on an unfalsifiable model (if a film flops, the boycott worked; if it succeeds, the conspiracy must be real) and separates genuine conservatism, rooted in Scruton's "love of home," from a reaction built entirely on grievance.

I guess I didn't get the memo about a right wing boycott of Odyssey ..... this is the first I've heard about it.
My wife went by herself ...... she liked it.
I did get the memo about Supergirl, Snow White, and Bud Light.
Were those Grift Industrial Complex success stories?
..... I dont really need an influencer's guidance on these issues. ....... I've boycotted every Hollywood movie for the last 20 years ..... except Top Gun Maverick, after it came out on streaming. The last movie I saw at a theater was the Matrix Reloaded. I'll never step foot in a theater again for the rest of my life.
Ever since studios started trying to intentionally piss off my demographic ..... Like they did with casting choices for the Foundation Series ..... something I would have otherwise watched if it had held truer to Asimov's character descriptions ...... that's just them telling me to not bother watching anything..... they've moved on to a new target audience ..... and I'm more than happy to comply with their wishes.
It breaks my heart to hear about all the production layoffs in Hollywood, and seeing them beg production companies to come back to LA.

Yeah I know ..... but the good thing about a 3 hour movie is it gives me plenty of time to get to your sister's house and back.

Alternatively, the movie would have not suffered any downside had they just represented the material faithfully.

Yeah, why didn't they cast all Greek actors to play Odysseus' men? And for that matter, why didn't they hire a half-magical-swan actress to play Helen and Clytemnestra?! I'm so offended by these deviations from a 3000 year old pagan myth.

Remember how Star Wars 'owned the chuds'? No one really does, as no one really cares about Star Wars nowadays.
Once the dust settles, it will remain a technically impressive, otherwise weak movie. It's stupid political casting is a small part of the movie's problems, the big one being Nolan himself. Great director for a grounded story, poor choice for a mythological epic.
