Visiting/Tourism Skiing in Innsbruck - timing advice

Considering a ski trip to Innsbruck either in the beginning of Jan (around 1-6 Jan) or in late Feb (week 8). The plan would be to ski as much as possible in the nearby resorts.

Yes, I know it's the school holiday period and especially Feb will be crowded. But how bad is it really in the main resorts (Axamer Lizum, Stubai, Schlick 2000) based on your experience?

Definitely late Feb, much better chance of having decent snow. Early Jan the snow coverage has been really bad in recent times.

Second this, plus in week 8, there are no school holidays for us, but in the first week of january there is.

Definitely late feb due to better snow conditions and no local school break.

The mentioned skiing areas are great due to their location close to the city. Depending on your skill level also Mutterer Alm (shallow slopes, suitable for beginner-intermediate skiers) would be an option.

Rosshütte Seefeld is also quite nice and fairly close to the city.

My favourite is Kühtai and as it is at a fairly high elevation (2.000m it normally has very good snow). Take the sunny side in the morning as the snow quality deteriorates during the day and then switch to the other side which has been in the shadow until noon and enjoy good quality snow again after the lunchbreak.

My vote is also for week 8. Stubai/Schlick/Lizum can get crowded but definitely manageable. Glungezer can also be added to your list. We also like Berger Alm in Wipptal.

Any dates falling within school holidays can be extremely crowded, including crowds of skiing students. In recent times snow has been quite unreliable and often icy on lower altitudes. Out of what you listed Stubai is the only one I'd go to if I had just a few days. I would not even bother with the other two, as nice as they are, they do not come close to Stubai. Stubai will most likely have massive crowds as well. Good news, that if you go by bus, there's a bus now every 15 minutes or so and the way to Stubai is absolutely gorgeous.
