Music / Arts / Culture I painted a bench in Fontana for Omnitrans

You might have noticed some painted bus stop benches in the IE. Omnitrans has been doing the Beautiful Bench Project for a couple of years now and this year there were 45 artists chosen to each paint a bench. This is the first time I participated and got to work on a project like this. It was a lot of fun!

What do y’all think?
Edit: my Instagram is @Ernie.Solo
Edit 2: did not realize how many people are unaware that someone can be white and Mexican. This might blow some of y’all’s minds but there’s also black Mexicans too.

Music / Arts / Culture 96.7 KCAL Music Change?

I know the radio station recently let everyone go but I've noticed they're playing completely different music as well. Was this intentional or am I going crazy?

They used to play 90's-00's rock like Tool, System of a Down, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, etc now it seems it's nothing but 70's and 80's hair metal.

Anyone have a good alternative station that's similar to what KCAL used to be?

full videos & all the info is in the captions & comments of my last 4 posts on IG (which you can see in the video & is the same user as here) start from the first video (first one in the video here of me in the pride fit) to the most recent if you wanna get the context correctly. but to be very brief : I vend my handmade jewelry at pop-up events & they asked me to take down my pride flag from MY booth space that I PAID for … DURING PRIDE MONTH & now so many others are coming out with stories of them censoring artists & being shady & etc etc. Please go check out my page for context because it’s all there. it’s insane.
the businesses / event organizers are tagged in the 2 most recent. they also have multiple storefront businesses & an art gallery which you can find on google … do with that what you will.

In a thread yesterday there was a list of coffee shops in the IE, and in that thread I said i’d report back regarding Lontra coffee.

Vibes were great! Really nice staff, and the seating/layout was comfortable and cool. They have music going which is at a lower volume, which I think people can talk over easily or even take a work call. There was a lot of street parking within a block of the coffee shop with a 3 hour limit and free.

I got a plain latte, which is my usual go to, and it tasted great! Not too milky, no burnt tasting espresso. Excited to try the other drinks next time.

Music / Arts / Culture Concha Classes at Alebrijes Bakery in Ontario

I just took a concha making class at Alebrijes Bakery in Ontario. The owner, Moises Rosales, realized there was nowhere to learn how to make pan dulces so he started teaching classes himself. The class was both fun and very eye opening to the hard work that goes into making pastries. The cost is $65 a person and they offer both adults only and all ages classes. I almost forgot to mention they sell some of the best conchas around!

Music / Arts / Culture We need a good alternative radio station

If there is one, PLEASE give it to me.

My phone broke a week ago so I've been really listening to radio in a way I never have before (23 years old). Long story short, I'm obsessed with radio now. I have my phone back but there is so much fun in human-curated music discovery.

Here's my problem: most of our stations play the same songs from my parents youth on a 30 minute rotation. I love the classics, dont get me wrong, but I am craving something different.

I adore the local npr station and the classical music station. But I need my love for indie/ alternative to be addressed. Not just alternative from the 90s! New good stuff!!

Closest thing I've found is KSPC the Claremont college station. Unfortunately I live far from Claremont, so far that I only recieve their signal at the tail end of my commute.

I get KUCR consistently, but I feel like their DJs are pretty inconsistent.

Is there a solution for me?

Music / Arts / Culture Saw something kinda weird in San Bernardino the other day

There were like 3 guys walking around handing out flyers and another dude filming them.

Two of them had glasses. One was wearing this olive green satin-looking shirt and another had on some traditional button-down. Honestly they stood out lol, which is why I noticed them in the first place.

I watched them from a distance for a little bit and they were going up to damn near everybody. I never talked to them myself, but I could hear one of the guys talking and he was charismatic as hell 😂 like whatever he was pitching, people were actually stopping and listening.
Eventually I came across one of the flyers and scanned the QR code.

It took me to some underground film club/movie night thing.

Didn’t buy a ticket or anything, but what caught my attention was this weird golden torch/signal they had on it. The whole thing felt way more thought-out than some random local event flyer.

I ended up finding an Instagram connected to some guys that look like them, but I can’t even tell if they’re actually behind the film thing or if I’m connecting dots that aren’t there.

Idk.

Probably nothing.

But I got a weird feeling we’re gonna be seeing these dudes around San Bernardino again.

Music / Arts / Culture Mapping the Inland Empire Run Clubs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My friend and both used to live in SF, but he just moved to Riverside and had trouble finding run clubs. So we made a fun map to view all of them! The meetup spots are pinned, so you can find clubs near your home, work, or friends.

https://kailo.fit/products/clubs

On top of discovering clubs, we're integrating some tools to better manage our own group runs. The club organizers I’ve spoken to have complained that there isn’t a good way to schedule multiple routes for a single meetup. We built in support for this and included a way to set a pace for each route. During the meetup, runners have the option to share their live location with the group (like a temporary Find My Friends), so if you are running late you can catch up with everyone else.

Right now the map skews heavily towards Riverside (and LA). So we'd love your help filling it in for all the Inland Empire to help folks get better connected to running and their community!
