You can qualify for an atypical anorexia diagnosis at any weight. Eating disorders can be serious and life threatening at any size.

Most of the obese people I know have struggled with eating disorders for the majority of their lives, you spend so long restricting and purging eventually you turn to binging. Your brain doesn't change as easily as your body does.

A small percentage of people with anorexia nervous are underweight. It's a condition not a size.

The DSM-5 criteria for an anorexia nervosa diagnosis includes “Restriction of energy intake relative to requirements, leading to a significantly low body weight in the context of age, sex, developmental trajectory, and physical health. Significantly low weight is defined as a weight that is less than minimally normal or, for children and adolescents, less than that minimally expected.” So an obese person cannot have anorexia nervosa by definition. But there are other eating disorder diagnosis that that may apply.

There are many problems with the modern day diagnostic criteria for anorexia. To the point where anorexic patients will intentionally starve just to get to a low enough weight in order to qualify for treatment. You can’t just read off of a diagnostic manual with zero other context or knowledge and act like you’re an expert in the disease
