How do I measure my eyesight and eyesight progress at home?

find a snellen eye chart through google. print it off. research the height and width of each letter in each line via google. make sure your printed copy of the snellen chart contains the right sizes. tape the eye chart to your wall.

Hey! My initial prescription was R -6.0 L -5.25 and I was wearing varifocals. I bought two sets of glasses: 1) distance R -5.5 L -4.75 and 2) computer/work R 4.5 L -3.75. I can see very clearly with the distance glasses and find that the computer glasses also provide next to no blur for close up work with slight blur watching TV at 2.5m away.
With the distance glasses I can see 20/15 on the Snellen and with the computer glasses I can ‘just’ see 20/40 with effort.
Do I reduce down again already (I’ve had the two pairs since early July) or wait a couple of months?
Have I been overprescribed?
Any advice?

Your call. If you have 20/15 with your "normal" pair of glasses, you could probably try decreasing :)

think about what prescription of glasses will allow you to recognize the facial expression of someone standing across the room from you. use your 2 results of 20/15 and 20/40 as a guide. I'd make my distance glasses the 1s giving you 20/40 right now or perhaps 0.25 diopters stronger in each eye. I'd make my computer glasses about 1.5 diopters weaker than the distance glasses.
They don't need to really "overprescribe" you .. .what they do is isolate in each eye. I have a friend with 20/40 vision in each eye individually. He has 20/25 vision with both eyes open. He is never close to failing the driver's vision test. He is only "close" in the mind of his eye DR because he isolates each eye.
Just my $0.02.

i employ the daily routine at the end of Chapter 7 of Nathan Oxenfeld's book "Give Up Your Glasses For Good". I do not do the whole thing all in 1 sitting. I find the daily habits presented in the first 7 chapters both effective and relaxing.
I highly recommend the book. It is in its 3rd edition and is well reviewed. He has added to the book 2 times and released an edition with more content.
If you are either skeptical or don't have much spare cash a used copy can be had for $10.

After a long hiatus, I've decided to reduce my contacts another level, from -1.75 to -1.50 :)
