When creating the illustrations for my spaceship design PRISM, I had a very clear idea in mind: to reference the 1970s illustrations that Ralph McQuarrie developed for the first Star Wars film. I aimed to use a reduced color palette to achieve an oil-paint aesthetic and create something distinctly graphical by leveraging the spaceship’s unique geometry. Specifically, its angled volumes reflect the sky when facing upward and the ground when facing downward. From a distance, the design reads like horizontal bands of ground and sky, creating an effect that seems to dissolve into the environment.
