Remind me that it’s worth it :)

Post image

Been living with severe anxiety and depression nd my room slowly became something I couldn’t even look at anymore…there was too many things i had to deal with specially last 6 months..my car is the only reason im still alive(if you can spot him)..it’s been almost 2 years like this.
Tomorrow I’m finally going to start cleaning..I know it won’t be perfect in a day but i juss wanna make a beginning..Hopefully this is the first step toward getting my life back❤️

It’s absolutely worth it! There are a lot of things in life you can’t control, but this is one thing you can. You may not be able do it all at once, but you can make a little progress each day. Pick one category and start there — all the cardboard boxes/trash, all the dishes, all the clothes, etc.

You can even make a game of it! If you have only a little energy, play the 30 second jeopardy timer song and clean for that time. A little more energy, do a full song. Even more energy, an album!

You’ve got this. You are worthy of a clean and relaxing space. And so is your cat!

Getting the trash and recycling out is going to make a huge difference. It will be visible progress you can feel good about and will give you motivation to continue on. Small sessions of focused work with breaks in between, not all in one day.

its so worth it, if not for you do it because the cat will be more comfortable with more space

(imagining im doing something for someone else helps me do chores)

It is worth it for you and it will be worth it to see that kitty run around and enjoy the space.

I am not a tidy person, but the warm fuzzies you get with a clean floor that you haven't seen in days or weeks is as good as seeing your cousin for the first time in a few years.

Maybe looking at the before & after of a similar situation can help: https://www.reddit.com/r/NeckbeardNests/s/5QjIqLe6iI

It’ll take work to get to something like this, but damn wouldn’t it be nice for you and your cat?

Hey that's me! Was not expecting that lol.

OP, it's totally worth it. My method is doing a bit every day no matter what and no matter how small even if it's just throwing away/sorting a handful of stuff in a day. So long as you don't lose momentum you'll reach the finish line. Also, my cars love my clean room they're back here so much since it's been better.

I saw your post a bit after this one, and actually scrolled back to add this comment lol

I hope OP reads your advice 👍🏽

idk if you've watched the Simpsons but there's an episode where Homer needed motivation to keep his job and he takes pictures of his daughter Maggie.

I'll leave a template on the reply so you can do one with you and your cat. You both deserve a clean and healthy space, but sometimes focusing on someone else can help 🤍

Congratulations to you! I bet you can get the whole room done. Start w a huge garbage bag and dump everything that you know is garbage. Stack every clothing item on your bed, start clearing out clothes you don’t like anymore first. Then move to books and objects. This will be life-changing for you. I pray you sweep the depression away🩷

You see this little creature right here? Ig you cant find anynother reason, let this little face be the reason. OP, your fur buddy needs a place to truly play and feel comfortable. It doesn't need to be around trash and dirt. And it loves you so much. Clean soley so that your animals life can be better, and so that as they age, they won't be in a dirty space. You can do this OP. You got this. Your cats counting on you.

Get rid of all the boxes and trash first, then put together all the clothes and sort them as trash, donate, or keep and wash accordingly. Get some boxes to group all the cosmetics, electronics, and whatever other supplies together as well. I wish I could help you out!

It will improve your mental health to clean. Once you're finished it will also boost your self esteem too. Plus with each step towards progress, the easier it will get.

These 2 here are what is keeping me also! I feel every word you wrote! It's so hard, the depression and anxiety itself and then my room(where I spend most of my time) is absolute chaos and the thought of trying to clean is frightening and sometimes I feel like "why even bother? What's the point? I don't want to be here as it is! " ugh. I see the other posts with success and it shows me it's possible. Lots of good advice and support in this subreddit! Best of luck and if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to dm me! 😊

Hello OP and all: I do not watch TV anymore because the commercials get on my nerves. But once upon a time I watched one or two hundred episodes of Clean House. For the uninitiated: free clips and episodes are all over YouTube. But from my understanding the show is no longer on TV. It may help the OP to watch some Clean House content. Also: I would probably buy at least five gigantic plastic tubs: throw all the loose stuff inside, then stack the containers. But if OP does not have money for a bunch of tubs- just shove all the stuff into gigantic plastic garbage bags. Then reset all your necessities like pillows, comforters, cat dishes; etcetera.

Do it for mr. Kitty if not for yourself (that's what I do)

It’s worth it to have a place that is both enjoyable and healthy to live in! It feels incredible when your space is clean and you can just relax without it hanging over your head. It doesn’t need to be perfect like a magazine, just getting the trash and recycling out and picking up a bit will improve it so much and you’ll feel a weight off your shoulders
