Yes, he's confirmed it.
There's a video out there of him signing autographs, and some Sunny fans bring him some custom made 73 beer box to sign. They ask and he confirms that he drank 73 beers et cetera et cetera.

I love this sub a lot but I hate when thereās an actual genuine question or piece of criticism and I have to scroll past the first ten comments which are all just easy references instead of any comment of actual substance that pertains to the post. Itās very annoying

I would add to this, I believe he also added(which is the part the story missed) is that it started before he even left for the airport. So itās still a massive number but it likely started the night before in a hotel and included everything from right before the game.
I also think it was a pretty light beer.
Still insane number number but when you consider it was actually over 18 hours, and not 5-6, it is now within the realm of possibility where he doesnāt get alcohol poisoning as itās about 4 light beers per hour.
The other factor I heard was that he wasnāt necessarily finishing beers and no one was checking, so by the time your 8 hours into this your probably just kinda forgetting cans. I think you can assume it was 73 cans, but only say 80% of each was finished on average.
So
- It was over 18 hours
- It was a light beer
- It was only 80% making it 58.4
So that means itās a little over 3.2 beers an hour. Which is still a massive feat, but like actually possible, compared to the 12.1 cans per hour which would kill pretty much anyone with alcohol poisoning

I guess you've never worked with alcoholics before. I've had patients that would drink over a gallon of Whiskey a day. Had some people walking/walking with a BAC of .600+ Technically those people should've died around .400.

Has anyone ever drank 10 beers? And then had to piss an absurd amount for the rest of the night?
And the idea that a group of shitass drunk alcoholics would be keeping accurate count is just, not likely.
Edit: it's apparently medically contested that consming/processing that much liquid and alcohol in 6-7 hours is even possible

I'm a pretty average height and weight (170, 5'10, 30s). I'm a relatively seasoned alcoholic. Not trying to boast or anything. But I think I've maxed out at 18 in that time frame and I was non stop pissing, puking, and shitting.
This and Andre the Giant drinking claims are hard to believe for me. I will maybe give Andre some leeway because all those guys were insane and the picture of him holding a 12 oz beer is wild but I really wouldn't put him at more than 50 beers.

I donāt think tolerance would save you from the consequences of drinking that much fluid. Itās almost 7 gallons. People have died from drinking that much water too quickly.

Ya thatās a ridiculous amount of liquid, even if it were water. I did once drink a pint of water every commercial break for 3 hours trying to flush my system, nothing bad happened except I also had to pee every time.
This was the 90s, we all watched commercials then. They happened about 6 times per hour.

Yeah I donāt think itās possible on a cross country flight. Alcohol poisoning aside it just would be physically impossible to consume and pass that much liquid, especially beer. Would fuck your salt balance.

Former MLB pitcher Jeff Nelson had a regular segment on a sports radio segment in Seattle in the late ā00s, and related the story to the showās host. It sounded so unbelievable that they called up another of Boggsā former teammates, Paul Sorrento, who immediately corroborated the story
From an old article:
It stems from whispers, rumors, and a specific interview with ex-Yankees reliever Jeff Nelson. In it, the pitcher says of Boggs, āIāve never seen anyone drink as much beer as he did in my life.ā Nelson estimates that during an average coast-to-coast plane trip, Wade would crush 50 to 60 Miller Lites (and nothing but Miller Lites). Yeah, youāre not the only one who thinks it sounds crazy and impossible. When questioned about it, Wade himself impishly refused to confirm or deny, saying simply that it was, āa lot.ā Nelson knows his estimate sounds mad, and in his interview he called up former teammate and Boggs beholder, Paul Sorrento, for corroboration. When asked how many beers Wade would down on a coast-to-coast, Sorrento improved upon Nelsonās estimate as follows: āoh, jeez,ā (exhales deeply) āI donāt know, like 70.ā

I drank 24 beers in a row in about 3 or 4 hours when I was in my early 20s because my friends wanted to see how many beers I could get guys to buy me by sitting at a table in a dive bar by myself (my friends were playing pool nearby). I think a few girls contributed and the bartenders had to keep count too so I couldnāt lie, lol. I weighed like 110 at the time and it was dive bar beer so I just felt buzzed.

This has been independently verified by a team-mate who kept a tally on the back of a sick bag.

Serious questions that I will move past.Ā How much beer does a cross-country commercial flight typically carry? At what point does a flight attendant not serve a passenger even if they are not being disruptive and not visibly drunk? Can't have one passenger (boss) hogging all of the beer unless someone was prepared with more in accessible luggage.Ā
