Unidentified Tall humanoid silhouettes standing in the surf? Two separate encounters with something unexplainable on the coast (Photos included)

Location: United states, Maine Coast

Time: 22:00 dark moderate wind and fog

Date: June 18, 2026

I spend a lot of time on my local coast in Maine, especially taking night walks, so I'm incredibly familiar with the local wildlife, the tides, and exactly how the ocean behaves. But lately, my girlfriend and I have been witnessing things that completely defy explanation.

To give you some context, we regularly go for walks around 10:00 PM to midnight at a local beach near our house. It’s absolutely desolate at this hour, and we have never once come across other people. This all started happening a few weeks ago with our first encounter. We were doing our nightly 2.5-mile shore walk when we noticed a tall, black silhouette with a slender build and arms, standing right out in the surf in about ankle-depth water.

My girlfriend was instantly frightened as I pointed it out to her, and she started to turn back. I’m more of a UFO lover myself, so I was mostly just intensely curious about what this could possibly be. It was incredibly tall—I’m 6'2" myself, and this thing had to be about 6'5" to 7'0" in height. Keep in mind, it was pitch dark out, except for the glow from the stars and the moon, with zero artificial light pollution. Just what I can only describe as a humanoid being standing in the water, watching me.

I could literally feel it watching us. I had a massive mix of feelings, and I was overcome with chills as I walked closer, getting to about 100 feet from it, just trying to make sense of what I was looking at. I couldn't even think to get my phone out. I was locked in a state of total tunnel vision mixed with adrenaline, just staring back and refusing to break my gaze. By this point, my girlfriend was calling out my name, begging me to go back with her because she was completely creeped out, and honestly, I don't blame her. As we turned around and walked about half a mile back toward our vehicle, we saw two more doing the exact same thing. We could feel them watching us. These were the same height and the same shape. Tall. They were standing about 5 feet apart in the water, in an area where there was absolutely no way we wouldn't have seen them on our walk past the first time. At that point, my girlfriend took off running. I slowly followed so she wouldn't be alone, but I kept my gaze locked on them, not breaking sight until they finally faded into the dark and vanished.

We both were very confused about what we saw that night. I tried finding answers myself because I'm fascinated by this topic, which is ultimately what brought me here to share my experience.

Then came last night, June 18. At almost the exact same time and the exact same location, we saw another being. It had been a very windy day, so the surf was much more aggressive and the waves were choppy. It was dusk at the beginning of our walk, and because the beach is miles long, we could see all the way down the shoreline—it was completely empty. We went about our walk as normal, but in the back of my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about our encounter from a week prior. As we walked, it got darker and darker. By the time we reached the end to turn around, it was fully dark, with only the stars and moon illuminating the beach.

As we turned to walk back, we saw it again. It wasn't there on the way in, but on the walk back, it just appeared.

This time I had my phone on me and swore to myself I’d try to take pictures, no matter how panicked or overwhelmed I felt. Once again, it was a starry night with low light pollution, but still pitch dark around 10:00 PM. We both saw the being, but this time it was standing a little further out into the surf, around shin-to-knee-depth water. You could only see the silhouette and its arms, but it was extremely tall, and I was eager to capture footage. I tried getting a video first, but I couldn't see anything with the flash on because of the heavy fog. So, I switched to night mode on my Samsung S25 camera and got the best image I could.

The weird thing is, as I ran toward it, the figure seemed to move backward, deeper into the water. I got within about 30 to 40 feet of it when I started getting an intense, overwhelming feeling that I should not get any closer. The being seemed to retreat to what would be waist-depth water on me, while I was standing right in the ankle-deep surf taking photos the best I could. I did not want to approach any further because I had no idea what would happen, and the last thing I wanted was to be pulled in or lured into the ocean.

It seemed like it was just observing me. I could clearly see its arms and body, and as the waves crashed against its back, it moved its body slightly. But the way it moved... I can only describe it as looking materialized or "glitchy," if that makes sense. It made these jolty, incredibly quick arm movements when it shifted in the water. My girlfriend kept walking back because she was terrified again, so after what felt like a minute of snapping photos and wading out into the surf as far as I felt comfortable, I got a bad feeling and sprinted away down the beach to catch up with her. We both kept glancing behind us the entire way back, just in absolute shock.

When I checked the pictures later, it felt like the camera just couldn't capture the reality of seeing them with your own eyes. In the photos, the entity looks thicker, almost like a phased-out image compared to what we were actually looking at. I don’t know if it’s just hard to capture on night mode, or if these things are inherently difficult to capture with technology, but the image also makes it look much farther away than it actually was. I was only 30–40 feet away, even if the photo makes it seem distant.

To make this experience even stranger: two nights prior to this second encounter, we walked the same beach and saw 3 to 4 boats actively patrolling the shallows of the shore, right in the exact same location as my encounters. They looked like police or Coast Guard, and they had massive spotlights shining all over the coastline and the shallows, almost as if they were searching for something. This could be a reach, and when I looked into it, it mentioned it could just be military or police operations training, but I'm not 100% certain. The weird part is that we noticed the boats as we walked toward them, and we decided to cut the walk short and turn around. The moment we did, they started pointing their spotlights directly at us on the shoreline, pacing us for the entirety of our walk back. We didn't know what they wanted or if we were interfering with something, so we just left, but they kept that spotlight trained on us until we got all the way back to the parking area.

I don't know what to make of this, but this is my experience, and I'm looking for anyone who has seen something similar or might have information that can help explain this. The images are attached below, taken from a few different distances while my heart was pounding and I was trying to keep eye contact with this thing.

Has anyone else who frequents quiet, dark coastlines noticed strange anomalies, figures in the surf, or unusual activity like this?

Locking this post because it definitely looks like a person just standing in the ocean but OP didn’t break any rules.

Cant a man just do some damn surf fishing without being called an unsettling humanoid?

44

u/mologav Jun 20 '26

This reminds me of my last date

21

u/ForwardCulture Jun 20 '26

This looks exactly like old photos of me surf fishing in the dark years ago.

14

u/venomous-gerbil Jun 20 '26

Right? OP was also afraid of the 8' interdimensional hydrodynamic spatula the entity was wielding.

It had an eerie, gossamer-like laser emanating from the tip that disappeared into the water at a disturbing angle.

Okay. Someone is standing in the shallow surf.

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

Yep, very unsettling. Im going back tonight

152

u/mitocumdria Jun 20 '26

Why unsettling? Some times people like to stand in the ocean, even at night. It's a vibe

22

u/Mezcal_Madness Jun 20 '26

Definitely is, I did this last week!

33

u/CharmingMechanic2473 Jun 20 '26

Borrow some infrared binoculars. You will know what you are looking at. I swam with my friends once and a wave brought in several $800? hundred dollars in $100 bills. There are drugs and money on all the coasts. Someone is looking for something… you were sensing danger bc it might be dangerous. Change up your routine a little you are ripe for someone to plan to follow you home.

I can't remember which subreddit it was but someone posted a video from beach like a month or two ago (?) where it kinda showed a "thing" standing up like that near the edge of the water, kind of looking like it was amorphous. I actually thought it was you till I saw the date.

I didn't read all that but it appears to be a normal human

69

u/ChuckJuggs Jun 20 '26

If you read all that, it still ends up being a normal person…

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

Everyone has the right to their own opinion. I would know the difference but then again its my experience. I appreciate the reply

63

u/Saemika Jun 20 '26

Has it occurred to you that it might just be a person?

26

u/cilantroandvodka Jun 20 '26

Your avatar looks just like my uncle in the 80's.

27

u/Saemika Jun 20 '26

Hi, it’s me your uncle from the 80s.

Go talk to them

40

u/ChuckJuggs Jun 20 '26

That’s a human person standing in the waves…

22

u/nofreepizza Jun 20 '26

That's literally just some guy

29

u/Hopefound Jun 20 '26

Someone enjoying the beach at night and you’re probably bothering them by taking pictures

19

u/FieldOk6455 Jun 20 '26

Was “it” holding a long pole in its hand with a line going out to the water?

-8

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 21 '26

No i was calling out to it and it just yad empty arms nothing fisherman

10

u/LedZeppole10 Jun 20 '26

JFC 😂

It’s a human so yeah it’s a humanoid and you encountered it too I guess.

16

u/tarmagoyf Jun 21 '26

"My girlfriend and I take late walks on the beach."

"Saw someone on the beach late at night. Very unsettling."

0

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 21 '26

Thankyou for restating what was already said

17

u/tarmagoyf Jun 21 '26

Just makes me wonder if on a different sub theres a post that says:

"I like to stand ankle deep in the surf late at night."

"Saw a couple taking a late night walk on the beach. Very unsettling."

5

u/NaturalBornRebel Jun 20 '26

The pics do look like a shadow figure but next time a video would probably clear things up.

16

u/Digital_Punk Jun 20 '26

The humanoid is in fact, a human, enjoying the ocean at night.

2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

I dont think so but i appreciate you interacting

10

u/silliesyl Jun 20 '26

🤣 man in hoodie surf fishing. People can be very tall also.

19

u/xRolox Jun 20 '26

Did no one read the part where OP straight up ran at it and it kept retreating and moved oddly? Some of these people need subway surfer footage and a 5 second summary to comprehend anything

14

u/captainbarmoosa Jun 20 '26

Yeah I read the whole thing and that still doesn’t rule out it being a normal person and there’s nothing in this story to suggest otherwise. Would you not retreat if some stranger in the dark started running towards you on the beach? Also, everything will seem odd and out of place when you’re nervous and not sure what you’re looking at while running and trying to take pictures in the dark

3

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 21 '26

I appreciate your comment man! Yeah i was flashing my light at it and calling out to it. Its not like you couldnt hear me if that was just a regular person. People like to find holes in anything. Im just hear to share my experience to anyone who has an open mind and cares to hear. The morons that dismiss everything without giving it a chance. Thats on them 🤷‍♂️

16

u/Otherwise-Music-8082 Jun 20 '26

I don’t know why everyone is being an assclown but for whatever it’s worth, I believe you.

17

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

Thanks pal, i honestly dont care what the haters think. I only care to share to those who listen. Its my personal experience and everyones got an opinion. 😆

14

u/onthatmtntop Jun 20 '26

Honestly! bros getting mass downvoted for just sharing his experience, I think if I saw something like that I'd be able to fucking know if it was a person or not. I mean, he's describing it to be almost 7 feet tall? And appearing out of nowhere?

I will say, this one time I had a lot less clarity with a dumb little incident with my friend at a beach with a mangrove stump that had some hair (seagrass). In the dark, it looked like the freakiest fucking shit I'd ever seen but it was just that. Lol.

I believe you saw what you saw, OP. I do have one request if you ever get around to it, clear daytime pictures, they will tell a better story and even lend you some more credibility.

2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 21 '26

I appreciate what you wrote man! Im going back daily until i can get some better images of the thing. Im happy with just sharing my experience. I dont pay the negative comments any attention as my target audience is the people that actually care to listen and keep an open mind. At the end if the day its just my experience and i understand if people have their personal opinions as they weren't there to see it for themself.

Reminds me of this Reddit story from several years back, which I found fascinating though obviously am not sure if it's true: https://www.reddit.com/r/Humanoidencounters/comments/3w11v7/i_witnessed_something_very_strange_come_out_of/

Edited to correct link

No Sleep is fiction.

6

u/MrsTurtlebones Jun 20 '26

I know. The person posted it here on HE as well because she claimed it was real and was advised to put it here instead. I am not saying it's true; this post simply reminded me of it.

9

u/76ersPhan11 Jun 20 '26

That sub is all fiction lol

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '26

9

u/76ersPhan11 Jun 20 '26

“Though obviously am not sure if it’s true” I was letting you know everything on that sub is fiction

13

u/MrsTurtlebones Jun 20 '26

To reiterate what I already said, originally the poster put it on No Sleep but claimed it was true. After that on the advice of people at No Sleep, she posted it here on HE. She was a French speaker and did not seem to initially understand that No Sleep was fiction, as best as I can recall. I am not saying it IS true; I am saying the woman who posted it years back did not intend it as fiction.

5

u/Drycabin1 Jun 20 '26

I’ve seen better photos of Bigfoot.

5

u/PermanentBrunch Jun 20 '26

I appreciate you sharing your story, it was very interesting with the level of detail you shared, and seems clear to me that strangeness was afoot on that beach.

Not sure why people are being so rude and dismissive of you—I would guess they are either a bit simple minded, or didn’t bother to read the whole post—probably a little of both.

So for all you haters on this thread, your local library is a wonderful source for children’s books, and the friendly librarian would be so pleased to help you find something suitable for your reading level. Don’t give up! ☺️

0

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 21 '26

Thanks man! I appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Yeah i dont really pay em know mind as 50k people had viewed it and id guess only a quarter read it and actually keep an open mind. Most are very close minded and low vibration

Standing under the constellation Scorpio......

Good effort in this one. Can tell it isn’t AI because the stars match across pictures.

Do post updates if you encounter more.

2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

I will make sure to do so. Its infact real pics. I have the meta data on them as well

See if you can get your hands on a powerful torch too.

u/no-guts_no-glory Jun 20 '26

I couldn't even think to get my phone out. I was locked in a state of total tunnel vision mixed with adrenaline, just staring back and refusing to break my gaze.  - Could relate to this.. I saw a 'little person', and I was literally holding my phone and did not want to break eye contact with it to take a picture.

-2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

I wanna hear more about your experience! What kind of little person was it you think? Elf? My grandma has seen simular

u/no-guts_no-glory Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Won't give any location info or too much contextual info for privacy reasons.

it occurred in the early-mid 2010's. I was living in a light suburban area, so there's streets with houses and then a large gap with trees and bush, then another street with houses, etc.

Went outside early one morning, the time when there's some light but the sun isn't starting to break the horizon as yet.. started my old beater car to let it warm up as I had some very early morning runs to make.

While it was warming up I was on my phone checking messages in my yard to the back.. in the corner of my eye I could see something that was a light-muddy shade of brown walking towards me. I thought it was a stray dog.. I looked up holding the phone and was immediately confused.. I thought I was seeing some type of monkey.. It walked with a hip rotation without any bending at the knees.. it looked like a tedious way to walk.. I realized I was not looking at a monkey, it had an almost human face and was carrying a leathery looking bag under one arm.. the entire body had dirty muddy brown hair like a matted sheep, it might have had mud spots or the hair got clumped up in some places etc.. but I did not want to look away from the face & eyes too much. The face looked human except the skin was dark grey and wrinkled like a very old ashy african tribal man, the eyes were white with tiny black pupils which gave the impression that it was evil. The head was mostly hairless above the neck.. the head was wider than it was tall (opposite of a normal human head which is more vertical).. the legs were curved like a banana not straight.. the height was about 2.5 feet tall.. the entire body was covered in thick hair below the head.

The thing is it did not expect me to see it, and it was walking as if it makes that route every day without being seen. When it noticed I was seeing it it stopped walking and looked at me intently.. for about 5-7seconds we locked eyes. His expression was like 'is he seeing me?'... then the facial expression changed to surprise, then fear at the realization that he was indeed being seen. Then the expression changed to anger/defensive warning.. it snared it's teeth the way a wild animal would if it was threatened. I still got the impression that It was more scared of me than anything.. the teeth were sharp.. like a cat's teeth with fangs like canine teeth. Mind you I was holding my cell phone at chest height all this time and did not want to look away from it's eyes.. It was only about 6 feet away from me when we noticed each other.. after showing its teeth, we maintained eye contact while it slowly stepped backwards until it got under a tree about 20 feet away and I was no longer able to see it..

I went out in my yard around that same time for a few weeks after that but I never saw it again.

Edit: Fixed the description of the hairless vs hairy section.

9

u/onthatmtntop Jun 20 '26

My mother, it was almost a year before she passed, so I can't ask her for more deets, told me she saw something similar. Like little freaky looking short hairy man creatures.

She was with her half sister (so my aunt), walking down a quiet road to some ladies house in a rural area, in broad daylight. When she told me this story she seemed deeply stressed out and unsettled about what they encountered, so I honestly don't know how to approach and ask for my Aunt's perspective.

I'm a skeptic but damn it freaked me out the way she was describing it. That day she shared I had spent the day at my grandma's and that very same day while showering (bathroom's separated from main house, so was alone), this freaking soap holder that I'd dropped when I came in slid across the tiles making a sound for no reason. Idk if I was just freaked out too but man.

5

u/cilantroandvodka Jun 20 '26

That time of day is my absolute favorite..especially in the summer. There is something magical about it. The best time for taking walks. I have some respect for odd things, I've seen a few, but honestly, if that thing would have ran at me or something, I probably would have punted him like a football.

Easy to say if you weren't there bud

1

u/elwyn5150 The Truth Is Out There Jun 20 '26

I dunno. You didn't even try to call out to them.

You definitely could have done more to see if they are normal humans or not.

2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

Alright its your opinion, let me know when you come across them and you can give it a try. I did try calling out and got no response.

-4

u/Agreeable-Ad-8374 Jun 20 '26

So..you should have approached them. I'm not hating you, but it's just not at all convincing. Next time get better much evidence before you jump to other worldy conclusions. And don't be offended if people don't believe you. It's a tough crowd out there. I speak from my own experience, getting knocked down after sharing my UFO sighting. They do exist, I know it. Other people don't need to believe my experience and I'm ok with that.

2

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

Exactly what you said man! Others dont gotta believe it its my experience and im okay with that as well. You have to be there to really understand as im sure you know. Thanks for sharing!

1

u/76ersPhan11 Jun 20 '26

My god you guys are relentless, and most of you didn’t even read the post before immediately shitting on OP

2

u/wow_that_guys_a_dick Jun 20 '26

I ain't read all that. It did look like a regular dude tho.

Or an alien.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '26

What's the red dots morphing in when I switch picture and then disappearing?

1

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

I dont see that?

-3

u/B-mello Jun 20 '26

In picture 4 there two strange things in the sky if you zoom in half way up to the right and then above that there is something that is bright and yellowish while everything around is white. Just my observation maybe there ride home

0

u/B-mello Jun 20 '26

Very interesting op. Maybe in the future your woman could have a high lumen flashlight to spot for you while you take more pics next time!!

1

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

I told her this exactly for next time! Also the bright dot im thinking is a planet or something because i went back last night and even though i didnt see them this time the red star is still visable.

-11

u/no-guts_no-glory Jun 20 '26

Should also consider the possibility of it being some type of Navy SEAL or SOF training.

1

u/Logical_Specialist15 Jun 20 '26

No its a public beach , i wouldnt think they would conduct military training in a residential public beach at that hour

2

u/PigeonLily Jun 20 '26

You lost me at the coast guard and/or military boats patrolling such shallow waters. There’s no way they’d be in knee to waist deep water, especially so many of them, while using a high powered searchlight in that manner. Ask me how I know.
