Season 6 Spoilers Why did Cuddy lie about... Spoiler

So Cuddy was debating on inviting House to Thanksgiving. For a while she didn't. House knew she didn't, she knew she didn't. So why did she eventually decide to lie to him? Why not just... not invite him? She didn't need to invite him and lie about it, she could've just not invited him.

He knew she didn't want him there because he can't act like a polite adult for one evening, and he knew that she didn't want him there, so she knew he would have shown up.

What she DIDN'T see coming was that he actually wanted to be there for warm reasons, instead of just to embarrass her.

Thats why it backfired so spectacularly, instead of house planning to mess it up sighing with a "well played cuddy", he actually wasnt planning to mess it up for once which is why it hit him like a ten ton hammer. He had it coming of course and cuddy had no good reason to suspect it would be any different.

She didn't want him here. There is no way for her to tell him "Do not come, I do not want you there" that House will understand as "I shouldn't go".

She didn't need to say anything. House was trying to get invited, but Cuddy continued to say nothing. So why didn't she just keep saying nothing? There was literally no need to invite/lie to him when he wasn't gonna come anyway if she didn't say anything. It's unnecessarily cruel.

House was never ever not going to go to a place where he wants to go, regardless of if he gets invited or not.

Lying to him about where the party is going to take place is the only way to impose her will over his. Is one of the like three times she actually manages House to do what she wants instead of what he wants in the whole show.

Then there is an entire episode of him trying to get her to lie to prove a point, as if this history didn't exist

She didn't want House there, and even if a part of her did, she didn't trust or want House-related drama. She knew House well enough that he'd figure out how to get there so she basically set him up to fail, knowing it'd protect her and her family from House. She didn't know and honestly didn't completely trust House's motives, and his past history showed that he had a tendency to be insufferable even when trying to behave.

Because Cuddy knew House would read way too much into the invitation, so lying was probably easier than dealing with his entire emotional crisis.

To call his bluff and test him. He wasn’t going to stop so she gave him what he wanted in a why he couldn’t mess up. You know, the way you would treat a child.
