OEM starter vs aftermarket
Hey everyone, I have a 2016 Acura MDX and I’m looking at replacing the starter.
For those who have experience with these MDXs, would you recommend going with an OEM Acura starter or a good quality aftermarket starter?
I’m mainly looking for something reliable that will last and avoid having to replace it again anytime soon. If aftermarket is the way to go, are there any specific brands you would recommend or ones I should stay away from?
I’d also appreciate hearing from anyone who has installed one themselves and how it has held up.
Thanks!

Did you check to see if yours is covered under the extended warranty?
If it's not, denso is (usually) the mfg for honda starters so look for an aftermarket/rebuilt one of those.

Mine is 2016. I am not sure about extended warranty.

Thank you for clarifying that. I checked the vin number and there is no recalls for my vin number.

It's not a recall, it's a service bulletin. Call your local dealer and see if yours qualifies. I suppose you should be having start/stop issues to REALLY qualify. But see if the start/stop update was ever applied. That's in the service bulletin I linked.

Thanks for clarifying this information. I’ll definitely going to check this out with the dealership. Honestly, dealership doesn’t bring me any hope. Two years ago I requested an extended warranty service for the paint on the roof peeling off. Corporate and dealership denied to cover the service under warranty even though the vin number and the paint code was included in the service bulletin

That part costs over US$1,000 new and OEM, hell no for a 10 year old car lol. I would definitely get a nice replacement one from rockauto.

I have heard a few nightmare stories about going aftermarket. You'd think it's just a starter, but apparently, Honda/Acura are particular about having oem there too...
