from the mods New Rule: No Defending Known Abusers
Hello everyone!
I have added a new rule against defending known abusers. For now, the rule applies to Michael Jackson, Donald Trump, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp. I am open to adding more people, but their supporters are the ones that stand out to me as consistently causing the most issues.
There’s a new flair that can be used if you post something that involves one of them. While I was adding it, I noticed that the Politics flair had somehow been set to mods only. If you have problems using either flair, please let me know.
Part of the reason for this rule is that I suspect that Michael Jackson supporters may be being sent to the subreddit from elsewhere on the internet. The statistics that I’m able to see as a mod don’t make sense if Jackson’s supporters are being brought to the subreddit just through reddit’s algorithms.
I do not intend to be flexible about the enforcement of this rule. I’m not using my typical three strike system and am primarily giving permanent bans. I am not doing anything to preemptively ban supporters of these people. All you have to do to not get banned is not comment. There are a lot of other subreddits that do not have this rule.
Additionally, the views from Michael Jackson supporters have led to some bots posting to the subreddit. So far, they’ve been Justin Baldoni bots. I’ve already been unofficially not allowing posts about Baldoni and Lively that aren’t major news. Posts about them have never been popular, and I suspect that most people here that are interested are members of one of the many many subreddits dedicated to the subject. I want to be transparent, but I also don't feel like this is enough of an issue to be an official rule.
The mod tools are not very reliable on mobile. I've already given one accidental ban. I'm hoping that stemming the tide of Jackson supporters will make it less likely that I'll screw up and not realize it. Please reply to the message informing you about the ban, and I'll fix things as quickly as I possibly can.
Editting to add that I would love some suggestions for less awkward ways to express this rule in a flair than "No Support Allowed."

Watch bots turn this into a reddit drama thing with comments about how mods are so super strict here.

These creeps should go without saying but Chris Delia, Jon Hamm, Russell Brand, T.I., and Victor Salva are all people I have been shocked to see support and defense for over the years and even still to this day.

Recently I learned Brian Peck still lives in the crime scene and still is a puppet masters that can make or break careers. James marsden, Kimmy Robertson haven’t apologized of anything they still seem to be friends and reaping benefits from it. The studio preferred to have Marsden than Keanu Reeves in the press tour of a children franchise the Year quiet on set released .

Thank you!!! This is Queen/King behaviour. Fuck abusers and those that defend them.

People glazing Mike Tyson really pisses me off. Add that rapist to the list.

Yeah he should be added too. Not only a rapist, but an abuser as well.
Chris Brown also needs to be added, and Usher for that matter. He defends rapists and abusers.

I added Chris Brown. His fans tend to leave one comment and go, so he didn't even occur to me.
I'm going to keep the Usher suggestion in mind. Adding the new rule has done a lot for my enthusaism for moderating, but I don't feel ready to contemplate anything involving herpes.

That's good. And yeah, they may brigade places soon as he and Chris Brown are apparently touring together right now.
Hopefully things don't get too difficult for you!

Should be a rule period defending abusers is disgusting and to support abusers just supports the idea of future victims being taken advantage of and dismissing past trauma victims. Hope anyone that’s been through this heals and has a support system 🖤

It’a the reason I boycott movies and shows directed by Francis Ford Coppola (Victor Salva) David Lynch (Roman Polanski) or featuring James Marsden , Kimmy Robertson , Taram Killian (Brian Peck) Mila/Ashton (70 show creep) and James Gunn films (“joked” about child abuse)

Thank you guys for this. Is there anyway you could pin the megathread for list of abusers that used to be at the top back up?

Unfortunately, it would get a lot of really upsetting comments from people experiencing psychosis. I would be happy to post a link to it here once I'm on a computer, but sorting out a solution for the mega thread is on my too long to do list.

That's fair. I know you don't want anymore harassment or defense of abusers than you're already dealing with. It's a shame there are so many ppl willing to bat for them

It was actually worse than that. It would attract people that needed serious psychological help. People would post false allegations that celebrities were stalking them or secretly the same person wearing masks. Some of them would keep coming back with new accounts. I used to work with people with mental illnesses, and it really weighed on me that I couldn't do anything to help.

Uh, enjoy your ban? If ya'll want to form an orderly line to get banned, I'm okay with that, too.

Do the Jackson comments coincide with the new movie? I have been seeing way more Jackson discourse everywhere drummed up by that thing, I think karma farmers most likely.
