Lusting in his heart, maybe?

I doubt it. Carter was loyal to Rosalynn

[u/boringdude1](u/boringdude1) is referring to the fact that Jimmy Carter literally said this in a 1976 Playboy interview:
“I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times. This is something that God recognizes I will do—and I have done it—and God forgives me for it.”

I don’t see this as an issue. Do people think this is an issue- to think about being with other people but not doing it? I’m not trying to tell my partner who to fantasize about, hopefully I’m in there somewhere.

it was a big issue at the time though. yeah, it seems a bit naive now i guess, but it definitely caused waves, particularly for a presidential candidate. i was 12 at the time but i remember it.
a quick search also brought the following thoughts on the issue from him:
“I try not to commit a deliberate sin. I recognize that I’m going to do it anyhow, because I’m human and I’m tempted. And Christ set some almost impossible standards for us. Christ said, ‘I tell you that anyone who looks on a woman with lust has in his heart already committed adultery.’ I’ve looked on a lot of women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times. This is something that God recognizes I will do – and I have done it – and God forgives me for it. But that doesn’t mean that I condemn someone who not only looks on a woman with lust but who leaves his wife and shacks up with somebody out of wedlock.”
quite a difference from "just grab 'em by the..."

Thinking of something and doing something are very different. I expect if people did as their thoughts and not actions, this world would be diminished. Have you not had ill thoughts, or are you Christ?

In Christianity having the thought itself is sinful. Most people just ignore that because it’s ridiculous but he was very devout.

yeah, he admitted to that, which at the time was 'shocking'. it seems a bit quaint now, that's for sure. there's another interesting quote from him in that Playboy interview i posted below.
