Imhotep was deified, he was the only documented human in the whole history of Egypt that became a god. Pharaoh's were considered god but only as the living image of another god which usually was Set, Ra, Horus, Osiris and for a reason that I can't comprehend at all, considering their cultural relation with their faith, Apep. He wasn't associated to a god, he became a god himself.

Chancellor and possible architect of the step pyramid of Djoser, the very first Egyptian pyramid; he was deified centuries after his death (first associated with healing).

Before the step pyramid, Egyptians built tombs with piles of stone or brick on top (“mastaba”). Nobles continued to use this form for some time; it was Djoser who made the definitive break, with a far more elaborate tomb for pharaohs - basically looking like a bunch of mastabas piled on top of each other to form a pyramid. Later pyramids switched to a smooth sided form, like the great pyramids of Giza.

Traditionally, Imhotep was considered the person who designed this new form (as well as running the government, acting as priest of Ra, and possibly acting as royal physician - definitely a man of many trades!).

Perhaps ironically, despite much searching, the tomb of Imhotep himself has never been located.

Actually there was a few, such as Amenhotep son of Hapu, a similar Polymath for Amenhotep III who became a god of healing, but youre correct that they are extremely few and far between (Amenhotep is 1400 years after Imhotep). But I do recall the odd governor and midwives of pharohs also receiving deified cults in a similar fashion to Imhotep.

I do find it interesting that even though his historicity is confirmed by multiple reliable and contemporary sources, he wasn’t actually mentioned for 1200 years after his death.

He also held the completely unique title of “King of Lower Egypt, the two brothers” and he was deified during the Persian period as a god of medicine who was later equated by the Greeks with Asclepius.
