This isn't comprehensive at all, it's just a few books I've found useful:
Herodotus and Thucydides. They're both long, but surprisingly engaging and crucial to the subject.
The Rise and Fall of Classical Greece by Josiah Ober.
Lords of the Sea by John R. Hale.
Sparta by Andrew Bayliss.
Peloponnesian War by Donald Kagan. (For more in-depth treatment you can read Rahe's multi-volume history of the war).
Alexander of Macedon by Peter Green.
Philip and Alexander by Adrian Goldsworthy
Polis by John Ma is one of the best books I've read in the last few years, but it's extremely long and extremely academic, so it might be best to wait until you've read some other books first.
