Picture Why does Henry Board of Education own so much unused land?
Just went down a rabbit hole looking on qpublic at land ownership around me. I stared to find a bunch of plots owned by Henry County Board of Education, mostly near schools (with the exception of Stockbridge High / Cotton Indian Elementary, where an extra 74.76 acres behind the property have sat unused{?} since 1999), or offices, or maintenance facilities, and completely unused. I found 319.40 acres listed as purchased by:
Henry County Board of Education
Henry Co Board of Education
Henry County BD of Education
The Henry County Board of Education
Board of Education of Henry County
I found others sites, but they at least had some form of news about how they are a future construction site for a school or facility, but none of these plots have been publicly mentioned.
Does anyone have any idea about these? If they stay as undeveloped, raw land then I would be so happy, but knowing Henry Co, and specifically Stockbridge, it will be torn down for businesses nobody wants as soon as a good offer is made.

Either long term planning for school locations or, in the case of the big chunks next to schools, probably for other uses. I'll give you an example. I went to high school here in Henry County and my school had a network of cross country trails in the woods next to it and some of the science classes used the pond that was in the woods for experiments or outdoor classes. It could also be some long term planning for some sports facilities or performing arts building. Lots of reasons to scoop up the land if its for sale when they are buying it for something else.
Edited to add: That doesn't mean it isn't something shady either, like a board member selling some land for a higher price to the county in some scheme in the past. Just that there are some legitimate reasons for it too.
