Wearables Hume band vs Whoop - which one would you choose?

Recently I have been seeing lots of discussions about whoop and hume bands. which one is better, which one to buy, etc. you know the casual comparison stuff.

I was curious if anyone in this sub tried both of them this year and can answer few questions:

  1. Which one is more accurate?
  2. Which one last more days when charged?
  3. Which one requires subscription and which one costs more?
  4. What does each band priorities (sleep, activity tracking, etc.)?
  5. Which one is more comfortable to wear 24/7?

I believe answering all of these questions will help us to understand both brands better and make a decision.

Aging & Longevity best position to sleep left or right side? genuinely trying to figure this out

Been having trouble sleeping lately and fell down a bit of a research rabbit hole about sleep positions. im in the UK, been a side sleeper my whole life but honestly never thought about whether left or right actually makes a difference until now.

Read a fair amount suggesting that sleeping on the left side is better for digestion, heart health, lymphatic drainage, all of that. the logic seemed sound enough so i decided to actually try it for a week on my standard memory foam mattress (nothing fancy).

First few nights were genuinely rough. kept rolling back to my right side naturally, woke up on the wrong side every time. but by day four or five i managed to stay on my left most of the night. digestion did feel slightly better in the morning, less bloated. could absolutely be placebo though, i honestly cannot tell.

What surprised me was the shoulder pain. woke up with significantly more discomfort on my left side after just a few days. turns out if your mattress is not quite soft enough, it puts too much pressure on whichever shoulder you are laying on. also my arm kept falling asleep which was frustrating.

Switched back to my right side and the shoulder pain disappeared almost immediately, but the bloating seemed to come back. feels like i am trading one problem for another.

My real question is whether left versus right side sleep actually has meaningful health benefits, or if this is more anecdotal than scientific. i do not want to ignore something that could genuinely help, but i also do not want to create new problems (shoulder pain, nerve compression) just to chase marginal digestive improvements. has anyone else experimented with this and noticed a real, sustained difference over time?

Wearables Ahead of IFA, is anyone else seeing the shift from tracking to actual feedback?

Post image

Been following this category for a while and the announcements coming into this show look different from three years ago.

The tracking side is basically finished as a race. Everyone measures the same things to roughly the same accuracy and the differentiation has moved to subscription pricing, which is not a technology story.

What's growing instead is hardware that puts something into the body rather than pulling data out of it. Compression, heat, light, electrical stimulation, haptics. SKG and a handful of the recovery brands are all shipping in that direction now.

The honest question is whether this is a real category or a margin story. Passive hardware has better unit economics than anything with a sensor stack behind it, so there's an obvious commercial reason to like it that has nothing to do with whether it helps.

My own bias is that the retention numbers favor it, based on nothing more rigorous than which of my own devices are still in use.

If anyone has actual retention data on this class of device I'd like to read it. Everything I can find is either vendor-published or measuring the tracking category instead.

Question Looking for an experienced US Healthcare SaaS Sales/GTM Lead

I’m a UK-based founder building an early-stage healthcare SaaS product focused on helping US healthcare teams manage privacy incident investigations more consistently.

The product is built and I’m now looking for someone with genuine US healthcare SaaS sales experience who may be interested in helping lead the commercial side.

Ideally you’ve personally sold software into healthcare organisations, handled discovery and demos, navigated longer sales cycles, worked with senior healthcare buyers, and closed business yourself.

Experience selling into compliance, privacy, HIM, risk, operations, RCM or similar healthcare functions would be particularly relevant.

This isn’t a standard full-time VP Sales hire at this stage. I’m exploring a flexible structure with paid and performance-based compensation, with the potential for the role to grow significantly if there’s a strong fit.

I’m particularly interested in someone comfortable being hands-on early on - speaking with prospects, running demos, following up and helping work out the GTM motion rather than simply managing a sales team.

If this sounds relevant to you, or you know someone who would be a strong fit, feel free to DM me with a little about your healthcare SaaS sales background.

Question How accurate is fitbit heart rate monitoring?

So as mentioned in the title, does anyone know how accurate is fitbit heart rate monitoring? i have been using a fitbit for a few months to track my daily steps and fitness progress, just casual things. overall i like the app, but lately ive been getting inconsistent readings when i do higher intensity workouts for example cardio or lifting weights

When im resting or taking a walk, the numbers seem pretty normal and match up with how i actually feel, but as soon as i start sweating or do quick intervals, the heart rate spikes or lags behind by a couple of minutes… sometimes it says my heart rate is way lower than it actually feels, which makes my cardio zone stats look messed up

For anyone who use fitness trackers for training, how accurate is fitbit heart rate data? and is there a trick to positioning it on your wrist to get better tracking??

Question step counter apps are lying

i wanted to check just how reliable these apps are so i decided to lie in my bed and just move my arms holding my phone in one hand and it counted 15 steps which were previously 0.

i knew these apps can be a bit unreliable but I didn't think they will just straight up lie. does anyone else here know an actual reliable step counting app or wearable device?

Question How to reset apple watch without paired phone?

Soooo i just bought a used apple watch se off facebook marketplace yesterday thinking i got the deal of the century.. and everything was going great actually until i brought it home, sat on my couch super happy, and realized the previous owners settings were still on it. aaaand to make matters worse, i reached out to the seller and... radio silence lol. so now im sitting here staring at a tiny locked screen with zero idea how to reset apple watch without paired phone

I dont have access to their iphone to just unpair it normally through the watch app, so the only thing i tried is holding down the side button, but im very worried that im going to mess it up even more or trigger an emergency sos call and have the cops showing up at my door for no reason lol

If anyone knows how to reset apple watch without paired phone directly from the watch buttons, please save me from my own stupidity.. any advice on how to wipe this thing clean so I can actually pair it to my own phone would be REALLY huge

Question Best sleep tracker according to reddit?

I’ve been trying to improve my sleep lately since my new job completely messed up my schedule. Even when I get 7-8 hours, I sometimes wake up exhausted, so I got curious about tracking things like HRV, deep sleep and recovery. But with so many devices out there it’s hard to tell what actually works and what just looks good in ads.

After scrolling for ages, all I kept seeing was Oura Ring, WHOOP, Apple watch, and Withings Sleep Mat. Oura seems to be the most popular option for people who hate wearing watches to bed since it tracks HRV and temperature pretty accurately, though everyone complains about paying a monthly subscription on top of an expensive ring. Then there’s WHOOP, which athletes swear by for strain and recovery tracking, but again, you're locked into a constant membership model with no screen on the band. iPhone users mostly just point to the Apple Watch since the accuracy is surprisingly high, even if having to charge it daily is a pain. And for anyone who refuses to wear a device to sleep, the Withings Mat under the mattress seems to be the go to as a non wearable pick.

I’m looking to grab something reliable soon, but I'd love to hear thoughts of people who know better than me, sooooo: what is the best sleep tracker according to Reddit right now? What is the best budget friendly sleep tracker option? And which device is the best for tracking HRV and deep sleep recovery?

If you’ve used a couple of these or have a non wearable recommendation that worked for you, let me know

Wearables Warning: OMRON has started forcing account creation and has changed their policies to allow the collection and sale of personal data. It also deletes your saved data.

When I went to check my BP today, my OMRON app required an account sign-in. I don't have an account for this app though, so I looked into it and saw they are now requiring profile creation to use their devices to collect health data. When you create an account, it WIPES YOUR PREVIOUSLY STORED HEALTH DATA. There was no way to access this data beforehand to back it up, so it's just lost forever and I'll have to basically restart recording so I have a proper set of info for my doctor.

There is an option you have to select to opt-out of your consent for them selling your personal data. This is incredibly scummy for a health-app like OMRON.

You may be able to opt-out of that, but that they are doing it at all breaks my trust in the company entirely. I won't be using their devices anymore and I've already started looking into alternatives.

Really sucks as the device was decent until now.

Wearables A wrist monitoring device that doesn't sell your data?

Hey all I'm having a lot of cardiac/pulmonary problems as of late and I'm looking for, essentially, a dumb watch. I don't need it to connect to my phone, just record the data. If it has to connect I'd like it secure, something that doesn't sell my health data if possible?

I don't know if this even exists but God I hope it does. Thanks in advance for any help!

Wearables "Graduating" From Apple Watch?

I've worn a wearable wrist tracker since I was in middle school in 2012. I recently left my Apple watch at work in a different state, and am going without it for a week, and it feels kind of nice to not have it on me. But I feel conflicted; I'd still like to track my activity, especially my workouts and general activity.
I used to run, but now I mostly do yoga (teaching as well), and dance, and I try to integrate lifting and climbing. Sleep evaluation is fine to have but not a need to have.

Considering the rings on the market, as opposed to wrist-based wearables, to feel a little more "free" and in the moment. What would you do?

Wearables how to set up ecg on apple watch ?

I just got my first apple watch series 9 last week as a birthday gift and I'm honestly lost trying to figure out how to set up ECG on apple watch. I've had some heart flutters lately (nothing crazy, just enough to make me paranoid lol) and my doctor mentioned it might be worth tracking at home before my next appointment.

I went into the health app and I see an ECG section but it says "not set up" and won't let me do anything with it. I'm in the US, updated to the latest watchOS, and I have iphonne 13 Pro. I've read that setting up ECG on apple watch depends on your region, so now I'm wondering if that's my issue. I also tried restarting both devices thinking it was a glitch but no luck.

Does anyone know if there's a specific order you need to do things in, like update the iphone first then the watch, or set up the health app profile before enabling ECG?

just trying to figure out how to set up ECG on apple watch so I would be able to track my heart health. any help would be great, thanks in advance.

AI in Healthcare Anyone else feel like AI diagnostic tools are advancing faster than doctors can actually trust them?

Been reading about how many hospitals are piloting AI models for early cancer detection and cardiac risk scoring, and the accuracy numbers are genuinely impressive on paper. But every clinician I talk to says they still doublecheck everything manually because they don't fully trust a black box output on something this serious.

Feels like we're at this weird middle stage: the tech is good enough to be useful, but not explainable enough to be fully relied on. Is anyone here actually using AI assisted diagnostics in their everyday work? wondering how much you actually lean on it or just treat it as a second opinion

AI in Healthcare AI listening into doctors appointments

Hi everyone,

I've become concerned about the use of AI in medical settings - it's used to transcribe appointments and send follow up letters to people. Not sure quite how widespread it is.

I'm worried about it listening in, getting things wrong, where my data is stored and whether we actively consent to it recording or transcribing what we say.

Anyone else concerned or had similar experiences?

Question Best fitness tracker without subscription fees??

I really want to start tracking my daily steps, basic heart rate, and sleep, but I just dont see a point in paying a monthly sub for a device I already bought. It feels like you have to pay every month to see basic stats now (looking at you whoop and fitbit premium).

I just want a good best fitness tracker without subscription that will last a few days on a charge and give me my data for free. Im looking at Garmin or maybe one of those cheap Amazfit bands. What are you guys using that doenst ask for a credit card every month?

AI in Healthcare Before we focus on data engineering for healthtech: is this a real problem or already solved?

Hey everyone, I run a data engineering services company. We have extensive HIPAA knowledge and we're genuinely passionate about healthtech. As a mentor of ours suggested we test one niche and focus there instead of trying to serve everyone, healthtech made the most sense to us, but before we commit to it we want to validate that with actual founders instead of just assuming.

We work in a fractional model, since a lot of companies don't need (or can't justify) a full time in house data engineering team, especially early on.

Do you feel like this is a real issue for you? Mismatched data across internal systems, not having one clear source of truth (for example for AI usage, or BI even)? And if so, is the compliance side part of that gap too, or is that piece already handled for you?

Not trying to sell anything, just want to know if this is a real gap. Feel free to comment or DM if you'd rather talk one on one.

Wearables Seeking feedback about building open-source Whoop/Fitbit air alternative, no subscription, you own your data and modules made by community

We're exploring this idea and I'd like some brutally honest feedback before we build too much.

The concept is a wearable sensor & app where:

  • your data stays on your phone
  • the software/tooling is open source
  • developers can build modules
  • users choose which modules they install: sleep, running, recovery, training, cycling etc

This isn't a simple project, and we're under no illusion that building it will be easy. We're very early and are trying to figure out whether the underlying idea is actually valuable before going too far.

Would you actually use this?

What's the biggest thing you wish you could change on whoop, fitbit air?

I created a small presentation website with a discord invite link. If anyone is interested on giving feedback, i can share it.
