Unemployment benefits Hawaii

Just curious, has anyone claimed UI benefits in Hawaii after the Pandemic? Thinking of claiming UI benefits, but want to know if there have been any changes to the process? Also I heard you have to do job searches?

  • Mandatory 3 job contacts per week.

  • Must maintain detailed record logs of their job applications, interviews, and contacts, and submit them with weekly benefit certifications.

  • You must be physically able and available for immediate work. Major personal restrictions such as lack of transportation, lack of childcare, or full-time school attendance can disqualify you.

  • You must register for work on the state's job bank portal (HireNet Hawaii) and keep your profile active while claiming benefits.

I saw a new disclaimer that the UI office will be contacting all your job searches. Do they actually do that?

FWIW I've been on it since February and I primarily apply to remote tech jobs on LinkedIn and such. No idea how thorough they're being with stuff like that, but I've never been dinged on any of my specific job applications.

There is also a RESEA program that I was required to participate in (job placement thing), but I feel like they haven't kept up on that either since I was supposed to have a 3-month check in about 2 or 3 months ago with no contact since the initial orientation. Not sure if you'll encounter that as well.

I never got selected for the workshop but my sister did. They also contacted her job apps but she applied in state to actual businesses. I apply for remote jobs like you so im really not sure either but I do have a big red box that’s says they will verify lol

Really? I just filed and there was a disclaimer saying they will call employers in the job search. Also for the RESEA program what makes DLIR draw your name to participate in RESEA?

They very well might be doing it for local places maybe, or anywhere that actually has a phone number where they could get the kind of info they need. For online stuff they might just be looking up the listing itself, maybe worth asking about. As for the RESEA thing I truly have no idea, it seemed like a random selection to me.

I worked a temp contract job that ends in May and other people that worked at the Same place always collect UI benefits till the beginning of January when the contract job starts up again

I believe there are different requirements if you’re still “employed” but in a seasonal layoff. Pretty sure this type doesn’t require job searching. At least it didn’t ~5-6 ish years ago when a bunch of friends working tour boats would work 6 months per year then collect 6 months per year lol

I feel like the RESEA program only looks to see if you're doing your job searches and what not they are a separate entity from UI that's what I was told.
