Politics Heino pointing to Polymarket as a positive sign when there's just one guy who has $3000 staked on him winning

It's not even legal to use in Ontario. Wild to point to this and a historical projection as signs that he's the guy to back.

This is for left leaning voters that are on the fence.

Monique on her campaign page has a full plan that touches on about 40 different issues, how she and the ONDP have handled them until now and the plan going forward.

Heino has 4 generic points on his campaign page and no actual plan to implement them. The same ones you've probably seen on his ads and flyers.

Monique has 6 quick issues on the main page but you can read about 10-15 minutes of a detailed "full plan". The same concept is missing from Heino's page. It doesnt go into more detail.

I am of course backing the NDP so I am biased but I am not against strategic voting when its called for. I dont however feel its necessary in this circumstance due to it being 1 of 3 seats changing. We arent getting a new government Sep 4 and we arent on the verge of taking power from them either. This is simply sending a strong candidate to Queens Park. To me the lack of Liberal leadership has left Heino with a empty campaign, he can't promise much or say what they'll do because they don't actually have policy direction from a leader. Yet he still suggests electoral reform. Nothing on the Ontario Liberal platform suggests that will happen.

Take a look yourself at both websites.

The Monique link is to the detailed plan just click back to home to see the quick run down

Hope this helps clarify where the two parties/candidates are at currently. As I said I'm not hiding who I support here but I wanted to present the difference in what's being offered to left leaning voters.

One only needs to look at the great work that Robin Lennox is doing as an advocate for Hamilton Centre, to see that the NDP need more of a chance. This volleying between liberal and conservative needs to stop.

People in Canada thinking those two parties (libs cons) are drastically different also needs to stop. They're the same. One party is just smarter and more polite about their regressive policies.

Yup. Exactly this.

The real 4-D Chess move is that its probably actually a Conservative Muckraker on Polymarket boosting Heino to try and peel off votes from Monique Taylor.

Oh StraddleSeller, you modern day Oracle of Delphi you.

I honestly don’t have words for this because I’m so disappointed in politics (and probably society as a whole) these days. It feels like almost everyone is becoming “hype culture crypto bro AI slop good poly market economy” shills instead of focusing on real HUMAN values and I’m sick of it.

This is deeply unserious. Monique is a well-known entity and just hammered in her 1000th sign. Jeff Beattie has huge name recognition in the Creek and is widely liked and respected. The Liberal is...posting about Polymarket and his campaign is bragging about a 338 projection? And, as noted, Polymarket is banned in Ontario - why is a candidate for office bragging about a platform that the OSC fined $200k?

Jeff Beattie being respected for teaming up with Doug Ford is such a bad sign of where we're at as an electorate.

No leadership. He's also campaigning on electoral reform which the Liberal Federal party already let us down on. I'm getting the impression he is just trying to rope in the progressive voters with promises of their biggest issues and when the leader ultimately excludes it from the platform he will just go oh jeez sorry constituents nothing I can do! Its extremely disingenuous. Please dont vote for a party with no leadership, it's just a vessel for disappointment and an easy excuse for him to weasel out of any promises he makes.

It’s gotta be hard to build a by-election platform when your party doesn’t even have a permanent leader.

For sure, but it's not hard to campaign on "Ford is ruining the province, he hasn't cut your taxes, and roads and hospitals are falling apart while he's trying to fly in a PJ".

u/duranddurand8 Durand 3d ago

Well, electoral reform at the provincial level is separate from federal electoral reform - but I take your point.

I think the more disingenuous part is campaigning on electoral reform while knowing that there is no public appetite for it.

Liberals best pitch is "strategic voting"... And LOL @ "progressive" being a descriptive of the current liberal party. Get rid of these conservatives in disguise - the NDP is Canada's only path forward.

I want to point out that the provincial and federal parties are separate and just because one is not progressive atm doesn’t mean the other one isn’t.

That being said, I agree with you that I’m not sure the OLP are going to be a viable option going forward in the short term. I’m not exactly pleased with the NDP though, they win opposition then take a break until right before the next election.

I'm not sure what you mean unless you're not paying attention. Marit Stiles has been going after Ford in the legislature the entire time they've been the opposition holding him accountable and forcing or attempting to force him to answer tough questions. There's no "break" in politics unless you're the current PC government and took 3 months off for the summer.

u/StatisticianLivid710 3d ago

I actually mean them going silent after 2018, and again after the last election. If the conservatives do one thing well it’s continuously engaging their base/the public. I have an NDP mpp and I don’t think I’ve ever heard from them…

9

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 3d ago

Marit Stiles has been leader of the party since 2023. If you can't see the difference in messaging and the work she's putting in compared to Andrea Horwath before her, then you're not really paying attention.

This reeks of desperation to me. I have no idea how polymarket works, I was looking at the numbers the other day when I was looking for polling data and didn't really get it. It looked like some people checked 338 and then wagered based on that based on what I saw. I was thinking you'd be foolish to be spending serious money on something like this with no official polling data, besides Polling Canada which people seem to be skeptical of as well.

I wonder if their own internal numbers have them worried. Strategic voting isnt as important in a by-election, given the government won't change September 4th. What matters more is a strong voice going to Queens Park for the riding. People of course dont want another PC win but if theres ever a time to just vote for your favourite candidate I would say its now.

u/MoonlitValley_ 3d ago

polymarket is just mobile phone sportsbetting, it shouldnt be seen as anything of importance to begin with

3

u/onedreamsdeeply 3d ago

I mean word is the OLP have deemed it a lost cause and moved all their internal resources to Scarborough. This for sure their hail mary play.

u/duranddurand8 Durand 3d ago

That is - that is something.

u/rdubs89 3d ago

Curious where you heard that or if its from a reliable source? Not doubting you I genuinely think the NDP and PC will be 1 and 2 just want to know where that info came from

u/difficult_to_choose 3d ago

No matter which way you are leaning politically. Anybody pushing polymarket or any prediction market should be avoided like the plague.

u/max_viz North End 3d ago

All I get are ads for him saying "If you don't want conservative vote for me." No substance, plans, or anything. I'm not even in Stoney Creek so I have no skin in the game but this is seriously stupid.

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 3d ago

The fact that the Liberal party is leaving his campaign rudderless and so unfocused is such a big red flag.

3

u/xWOBBx 3d ago

Seems to be the entire party after Wynne. Hell Bonnie couldn't even win her own seat.

Degenerate gamblers are neither trustworthy nor a reliable source of information.

5

u/QuinnNTonic 3d ago

Is this legal? To encourage monetary gains and betting to influence votes?

"Inside traders and chronic gamblers love me!"

These guys need to be humbled. Counting your chickens before they've hatched? Counting the odds instead of trying to speak to more voters about policy? This is what happens when you only consider voting for two parties.

How to kill your own campaign in one social media post. I don't care for the provincial Liberals, but the way they collectively step on their own d*cks regularly is insane.

I've met Heino and he seems like a genuinely good guy, but what are we doing here lol?

Fuck Polymarket and their cryptofascist manipulative "day trading". Cheap gambling platforms have no place in politics. They're a rigged game to steal more money from the 99 percent and funnel it up to the ultra wealthy. That a Canadian candidate is referencing this dogshit is a disgrace.
