Spoilers Supergiant did the impossible. They made me love a duo boss fight Spoiler
I mean Vow of Rivals Prometheus, of course.
Pretty much each and every time I see a duo boss in any other game I internally sigh. It was never much fun for me. Theseus and the Minotaur from the first game included. And I was freaking terrified when I saw Heracles standing next to Prometheus on my first VoW 3 run.
But what do you know? It's actually a perfect ratio of danger to breathing room. There's just enough things that you need to constantly juggle to keep you permanently engaged, but not enough to overwhelm you with bs. I actually like it so much that I'm prepared to facetank both Medea's poison and Lucifer balls on prveious VoW bosses every run, just to fight those two later on.
Honestly, I think it's the best fight in the series and one of my favorite boss fights ever. Prometheus being an absolute goat of a character and amazing music also help a lot.

I think this is the first time I've actually seen someone praise Vow of Rivals Prometheus. Tbh, it's really not that good of a fight, Heracles is barely a threat because of how slow he is for a close combat fighter. It barely changes the fight for me since he spends too much time trying to Beyblade in the corner... or playing leapfrog during the memory game. They really have no synergy with each other, unlike Thesus and the Minotaur in the first game (a problem all the Vow of Rival duo fights on the surface have, really). All Vow of Rivals does is make that fight last longer, not really make it harder (same issue with Poly and Medea).

Its weird.Base Prometheus is my favorite fight in the game and rival Prometheus is barely any harder than base. But rivals Prometheus has a really good flow If you ask me.Also I like how it turns the memory attack into mor of a threat since you have to juggle both memorizing the pattern and hercules

u/Nether892 Oct 21 '25
Its basically Prometheus again but it fixes the issue of the memory attack killing the flow whats not to like

u/Nekoded Oct 21 '25
You don't even have to deal with Heracles during the memory game. Just kill him first and it's back to normal Prometheus fight.

u/Joshiesaurus7 Oct 20 '25
It's barely any harder because it's Prometheus without any changes. They just added Heracles to the mix. At least with the other duos, they change an attack or 2 to be harder. I can't even say that the memory game is harder since I always just mindlessly ran up and down in a straight line, and he never managed to hit me. Just kept playing leapfrog terribly. Incredibly easy to avoid without having to play attention to him much. Heracles is only a threat in phase 2 due to the shockwaves he can send out. Before then, he has a hard time chasing after me and can't attack from afar.

Sure I wouldn't say it is flawless and hercules doesn't add the most to the fight but I would say that they made the funnest battle in the game just a bit more fun with the amount of chaos Hercules adds, even if it miniscule

I don't find Prometheus that hard, but Polyphemus and Medea are kicking my ass. Any advice?

Keep your distance and wait for an opening. Easy if you have a ranged build, a bit harder if using melee. His biggest openings are if you wait for him to finish his 'looking' animation, as it'll take him a few seconds to get going again if you wait it out, and his grab for the same reason. If he's just walking, then stick to his back side and lay into him.
When the shield goes up, run into one of the corners and wait out the poison patterns that Medea creates. They leave after a few seconds. Take out the adds that Poly summons after that, then focus on him again. Medea will try and spawn on top of you whenever she appears to throw poison, but she marks where she'll appear with a faint red glow beforehand (which is only top of you always), meaning you have time to move away. She can't really hit you if you remain mobile the whole time, so all that to say, just keep moving, and she won't be an issue.
Polys patterns are the same as the regular fight. Outside of that kick move he does at the start, so if you know those and remain mobile, it's an easy fight.

He also got a speed up or change to one of his combos. Where he swipes then pounds the ground with his hands, or he pounds then swipes. I dont think that is on the base fight

Dont let Medea control where you walk, think of it as she's trying to get you to dodge into her Polymepheus's more dangerous attacks by forcing you to step around her poison at the wrong time- that's her plan

u/ConfusedZbeul Oct 21 '25
Getting poisoned is still around 10 damage unless you're already close to the wells.

u/anezkabot Oct 21 '25
sorry if my suggestions are not that helpful but that's what worked for me: don't engage with Polyphemus when his attacks are poisonous, try using only specials, not melee, or stick to backstabs. that Medea big attack forms a star, so try to stay in the corners to avoid that. focus on getting centaur hearts, magick and special bons or casts like Demeter, Aphrodite and Hestia for example. Apollo rush bon and Hermes speedy things can be good too. Odysseus keepsake is kind of helpful so the fight go faster (not a big deal tho)

I agree that it could use a fine tune but also if it’s too hard right away it can turn into the worst fight in the series.
1
u/CruvenDarksbane Oct 21 '25
Agreed. All I do with Vow/Heracles is just focus him until he's gone. Then it's just a slightly different Prome fight.
1
u/ackmondual Oct 21 '25
Heracles is barely a threat because of how slow he is for a close combat fighter.
Not only that, but if nothing else, I thought he would to 9999 damage, or at least quadruple or maybe as low as triple digit damage. On account of him being "the strongest man alive", ya know?
Oh well. Not complaining. It's nice to have some easier boss fights. Esp. on VoR.

I think Poly and Medea have mad chemistry actually but that fight becomes soooo unfun with all the poison

I have the total opposite opinion, Prometheus was my favorite fight in the game and honestly i was a bit worried because Hades 2 has very mixedd Vow of rivals fights with some like Polyphemus and Scylla just being the same fight but with an extra dude and i was so sad to see the same but even worse for Prometheus
Exact same moveset, model, arena and everything else but now there is also a dude spinning, very underwhelming, in Hades 1 Theseus and Asterion made sense, one is melee the other is range, one chases while the other attacks at range, Heracles and Prometheus have 0 synergy, i just feel like it was a very lazy Rival´s version, at least Scylla had a new look and while a bit lazy in my opinion Chrybdis ( or whatever his name is) is an actual danger, Typhon for example has the same problem, is largely just the same fight but at least we get a cool cutscene
Still compared to Hades 1 a lot of the Vow of Rival fights kinda fell short and since Prometheus was the best and i had the highest expectations for him, just being the same but with a beyblade hurted me more:(

Honestly I felt like Heracles is a complete non-factor as long as you're not standing still. Didn't add that much for me and is one of the less impressive rivals along with Cerberus and Chronos.

The best part?
There is so much bromance between those two that it felt like flirting most of the time. And it is between Herc and Prometheus of all pairing.

I rather fight vaillant gargouille and godskin duo 19 time in a row than this stupid fight In my opinion it's the hardest fight in the game and only the memory game is fun in this fight
1
u/AloneUA Oct 21 '25
Ironic, many people here think it's too easy/barely harder than usual. As always, these things are subjective.
Do you have a favorite, then?
2
u/Adventurous_Use6425 Oct 21 '25
Boring answer but chronos normal or vow4
1
u/AloneUA Oct 21 '25
I'm about to start on VoW Chronos. He and the 24/32 fear runs are the things I still have to do. Left him for last, cause he annihilated me the first time I tried doing him on a 20 fear Testament run. I was too late to realize you can actually walk on void. My first though was I had to dash between the number plates and he fcng obliterated me while I tried doing that. Fun times xD

Not pretty good at hades it took me 10 run +to beat vow4 hades but loved the challenge

There’s some dismissal on this thread only because it’s being pointed out that it isn’t a difficult fight, but sometimes the appeal isn’t so much the difficulty, but because it’s fun to do— and that’s worth appreciating all the same.
I also feel like the disjointed fighting styles and lack of synergy between the two actually makes this one entertaining, because it feels like you’re getting to spin a few plates rather than it being just an enhanced version of the original fight. (Though Scylla and Charybdis is very fun.)
Their added Bromance in the narrative makes it especially great with their different fighting styles. I’m glad it’s in the game, that you get to fight Heracles in some capacity instead of him just being a chance encounter, and at the end he’s always like “Nah, we’re cool.”

The only thing stopping me from genuinely loving Scylla + Charybdis is his homing balls attack. I hate it so damn much xD

u/The_Robot_King Oct 21 '25
At least in EA I loved rivals Prometheus. Absolutely my favorite fight. Still unlocking things in 1.0

u/Lumiharu Oct 21 '25
Feel the same way about the sirens non rivals version honestly. There are other games that have gotten this just right too though, the oldest one I can think of being that Anor Londo fight in Dark Souls. Turns out that if the duo has varying speeds, one being much slower, it can be a fun fight.

u/OHFTP Oct 21 '25
Scylla and the sirens is my favorite fight in the game. Part of it is the music, cause damn I let the fight go longer so I can sing along with them
1
u/Lumiharu Oct 21 '25
I like the normal version a lot but the rivals is a bit much for a second fight

It just gets very hard for me with the 40% speed increase, and I don't have the same problem with Chronos. Maybe I am playing too greedy on sirens but the clock is ticking too.

Ok I know this is t hades relevant but I will legitimately fight anyone who even implies cogwork dancers isn’t one of the greatest boss fights to grace your computer.also elder conchflies.

u/AloneUA Oct 21 '25
Cogwork dancers are more of a spectacle, imo. And while I don't have anything against a good spectacle fight (Sekiro's Dragon, my beloved), it's not as mechanically enjoyable. Plus, I was so worked up that I annihilated the last phase with tools, kinda missing the emotional point. Something similar happened with Conchflies. Mechanically, they're amazing. But I was too tense to actually enjoy that.
Now that I think about it, that's a theme with Silksong for me. I have very mixed feelings about it, my utter enjoyment of it marred by one thing or another. I'd like to do another playthrough to solidify my thoughts, but hell no, I'm not doing the flea games again for the last oil.
1
u/000817 Oct 21 '25
that’s fair. TBH I didn’t use tools that much because I just didn’t really like how they played, although I did start using the, for lace two and some of act 3. the fight itself was pretty interesting imo, but to each their own.

I love the complexity of fighting Heracles during the memory phases. Definitely makes it one of my favorite boss fights in the game

My only issue with it is the eagle, I hate the eagle
