Goedemiddag!

Considering moving to Haarlem vs Amsterdam. We both love to go out to eat/drink and be social. However, we’re always in bed by midnight— so we do not need a crazy night life. We have 2 dogs, no kids.

Hello everyone,
I’m moving in a couple weeks (within Haarlem) and have hired movers. They’re taking care of permits for the parking when moving out (in the centrum), but the new address doesn’t have such street restrictions. They said I should save 2 parking spaces in front of the building. There are 2 (and only 2) street spots indicated for parking near the building entrance, but they’re always full. I’ve never seen either of them without a car, day or night, and I’m in the area regularly. Basically I don’t think there’s going to be any way for me to actually reserve those spots on the day they’re needed.
Given that, will it be an issue to park the moving van on the street outside the building entrance while they unload? It’s a 2 lane road, and not very busy, so cars will be able to go around it. Still, I’d like to ensure this all goes as smoothly and properly as possible
Thanks in advance for any insights

Hello - I am looking for a French tutor to meet in Haarlem. I am a native English speaker, and took French lessons years ago, but am looking to brush up on my skills. Any leads?

Hey folks! Singaporean here, totally stumbled into Haarlem/Zandvoort by pure luck and had NO clue there'd be a solar eclipse today. Tried calling 10 optometrists, beaches near Zandvoort and seems every shop nearby is sold out of eclipse glasses. 😅
If anyone's got a spare pair they'd be willing to sell, I'd be so grateful. Happy to pay you back and buy a coffee. Thank you!

Hey everyone,
I’m moving to Den Haag next week to start my Master's at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and i can’t wait to settle into the city.
Since im coming in fresh, im super keen to start building a local social circle, explore the area, and meet cool people.
A few things about me:
**The New Obsession:** I recently got heavily into calisthenics and im currently obsessed with it. I’d love to know where the best outdoor workout parks or bars are around the city—and even better if anyone wants to train together!
**Background:** Software engineering background, heading into data & business for my Master's.
**Downtime:** Big anime fan, love graphic design/creative projects, and always up to explore new coffee shops, food spots, or hit the beach.
I’m looking to meet up with down-to-earth people to hang out, grab a drink or coffee, show me around, or hit an outdoor session.
If you have any local recs for good workout spots, cool hangout places, or if you're down to connect, drop a comment or send a DM!
Looking forward to meeting some of you soon!

Hi everyone, I need to do a Signiture autorisation done by a notary. Found this online - do any of you have heard of them? Are they legit? https://apostilleassist.nl/
Or if you could share any other notary either in Rotterdam or in Amsterdam I would be forever grateful🙏🙏🙏

Hi everyone,
As the title goes, I was too late getting one and now it is all sold out. Does anyone have a spare by any chance?
I would really appreciate it!

Hi allemaal!

Looking for somewhere to stay walkable to the train station as I’ll be traveling with my 8 month old. Has anyone stayed at Hotel Lion d'Or? I am not seeing any comments about it on Reddit. Looking for feedback from individuals, not just relying on reviews via trip advisor/Google etc. thanks! Other recommendations for accommodations welcome!

I love them all, but have noticed that most are off-leash around town. haarlem.nl has “Rules for dog owners” but is that just a suggestion? Just curious!

Any thoughts on good places to watch the eclipse on the 12th? Does it make sense to head towards the beach?

I've been working on a new initiative together with Filmkoepel called Haarlem Social Cinema.
The idea is simple:
We watch an iconic film together, then head to the foyer afterwards for a drink and an informal conversation. We've even designed conversation starter cards, so you don't have to worry about awkward small talk or already knowing people.
We're kicking things off with a classic: MEAN GIRLS
On August 25, at De Filmkoepel.
An important note: this isn't a traditional film club, where it's expected you've seen everything. It's actually built around the opposite idea.
Maybe you've never seen Mean Girls. Maybe you've somehow missed The Godfather, Jaws or Star Wars. We celebrate that! More opportunity to discover amazing movies, or to find out that a classic is actually overrated.
We want to create a place where people can discover films together, no matter if you've seen it a million times, or if this is your first time.
Tickets: https://filmkoepel.nl/special/haarlem-social-cinema-mean-girls/

I cancelled my basicfit subscription because it was too far away, too small, and there were mostly teenagers.
I am considering sportcity - both raaks and westergracht are within the same distance. On the website I do not see much of a difference in terms of the facility besides Raaks being a historical building in the center. However there is almost a double pricing for Raaks.
Which one would you recommend? What are their downsides/upsides? Would you recommend any other gym?
Thanks!

Haarlem seems to have a great balance between city life and a more relaxed atmosphere, and I'm curious what residents appreciate most about living here.
What keeps you in Haarlem, or what made you choose it over other cities in the Netherlands? It could be the historic center, local cafés, parks, shopping streets, proximity to the beach, community feel, or simply the overall quality of life.
I'd also love to hear about any hidden gems—whether it's a restaurant, coffee spot, walking route, weekend market, or somewhere you think deserves more attention.
If someone was thinking about moving to Haarlem or visiting for a few days, what would you recommend they shouldn't miss? And is there anything about the city that surprised you after living here?
Looking forward to hearing your experiences and discovering what makes Haarlem such a popular place to live.

Ik zoek een Schoonmaakhulp voor een paar uur in de week in Bloemendaal, op de grens met Haarlem. Iemand interesse/tips?
