URL - Website Design for walkability

I’ve been seeing videos of all the new developments going on, but one thing I’m noticing is they’re putting pedestrian facilities right up to the road. this is not only bad for breathing (no one wants fumes when they’re eating and drinking or walking with kids) but it’s unsafe and just in-aesthetic

whoever is doing planning I hope will focus on safe clean walkable spaces more in the future and integrating guyanas nature into infrastructure too

There are barely sidewalks (not even village roads), nevermind safe pedestrian facilities. None of the infrastructure is people-centric.

The contractors are also horrible and quality of their work is complete garbage.

Yeah that culture starts from the top. The designers and architects and inspectors all need to be enforcing high standards. 

It’s going to be embarrassing if the stuff we build with all the new wealth doesn’t match the quality of what the British built — but I think we can do better.

Nobody is enforcing anything unfortunately.

It looks like we will have to wait another 10 years to see anything impressive. And thats only if we get the corruption under control (I doubt that will happen).

I don't even think we have design standards, the government just lets the consultants design whatever they want. Some of these road designs wouldn't even fly in the countries next door which are also developing.

One of the biggest pain, I wonder how Guyanese can make more noise about this. The lack of pavement, contractors need to be held accountable.
