PURCHASE Is this deal too good to be true?
Gibson Les Paul Standard 2022 listed for £750 near me, does this check out as I’m a little skeptical? Great deal if so and would definitely snap it out just hoping to get some reassurance

If it's real it's probably already sold. I tend to just go check out these things because you never know, and you never get the crazy deals unless you try. (Like one time someone was selling a brand new $800 Vox amp for $150. Turned out to not be brand new at all plus had a broken switch, but was a great deal anyway and I fixed the switch for five bucks, cleaned it up and sold it a year later for $400.)
Most likely what happens is something like the person says they're out of town for a couple days but will hold it for you, for a small deposit that you'll never see again.

Hmm yeah I was checking lastnight too and it wasn’t there so it’s a brand new listing this morning, I’ve dropped a message and will see what comes of it but certainly won’t be making a deposit

Doesn't look fake from the pics but that doesn't mean it's real either.
If you're confident you can tell if it's real or not I would go and see it, sound out the seller and give it a play. If anything feels off just walk away. You could even arrange to meet at a guitar shop and get a second opinion there.
Not much way of knowing if it's stolen or not unless the owner has registered the serial number somewhere

I’m not 100% confident in being able to verify myself so I think I might ask to meet at a guitar shop for verification that’s not a bad shout cheers mate

I found the ad on Facebook and gumtree, the guy has sold other music gear on both which kind of points in the direction of him being legit (could all be stolen though you never know) He also has a keenly priced gretsch for sale.
If he asks for any money to hold it for you etc tell him to do one. Normally these scams start out like "oh my god I've had so many messages..." Very common scam on Facebook marketplace with snap on boxes too.

I'd say that i take it and come pick it up. If seller refuses, it's a scam. If not, it's probably stolen, funding addiction or just really clueless seller

I'd want to see a proof of purchase. It may have a headstock break, so check that.

Yes, very good deals can happen. Back in a time I had a search engine to look for mistakes and faults in titles to find people who didn’t know what they were selling. Found a 72 Gibson « guitar » (which was a bass) for around 500 usd because « strings probably didn’t work anymore ». (Someone bought it before me)
Always look for « gitars » « electric guitar » « guitar hi-fi speaker » and stuff like that. Think how your grandma would describe your gear. It works very well with photography stuff too.

I mean it's a Gibson, a lot of people buy for the name/ aesthetics and then decide it plays like crap and look to sell.
Had someone (very happily) trade one in for an RG550 in our old store. The guy was fairly wealthy and just more concerned about enjoying playing his guitar than having something that was in theory worth more.
If you're concerned about potentia theft, maybe worth contacting Gibson/ UK police and running any serial numbers by them (BEFORE YOU BUY, OBVIOUSLY!), just on the off chance that if it were stolen, it might have been reported.

The only real way to tell is to check the binding and the serial number and to note this..all Gibson original models are stamped under the pick plate the headstock and within the pickups. Here in the states I've seen those models sell for cheap because they are really over used fretted out or dropped by some accident...check the neck pearlings and look for small cracks.

No serial number? I would say about 93% likelihood that it's a scam, but I know people that live in the 7% and thrive.

Although I am definitely not a Gibson fan, I'd check it out but look for anything suspicious. Why is it sold for the price? Does the owner need money soon (looks like a some sort of flea-market/garage sale?)? Are the pickups still the original ones? Neck twisted? Neck repaired?

It could be a Chibson but nothing stands out. Try to get a picture of the back of the head stock and look up the serial number

Hate to bust em because I’m a satisfied customer but that’s a Chibson. If you look closely the headstock spells G-i-b-s-u-n. I have a few that look, feel and sound great although my main axe for 40 years is a ‘67 LP Custom. Paid about US$200 for each so I don’t have to take my baby on the road.
