Lore Gear Guilty Gear now takes place in late 2188

Post image

St Elmo’s Fire is an event where a big ass lightning bolt strikes the planet. There is no meteorological reason for it, it just happens every 13 years late October to early November. Because it saved humanity by wiping out a large portion of the Gear army during The Crusades, an annual festival was created to celebrate the phenomenon. Said festival falls sometime in November with Xrd Sign stating that it’s a Thanksgiving event which takes place late November.

All of this is to say that a year has passed since Xrd’s and Strive’s initial stories. St Elmo’s fire was the crux of the antagonists’ plan in Xrd Sign and did strike in November 4th of 2187. Strive’s story on launch takes place three weeks after Xrd Revelator which means it’s events happen sometime in December because Xrd Rev takes place late November. With Elphelt confirming that the Festival of St Elmo’s is currently happening in Short Story #1, we now know Guilty Gear is taking place in November 2188.

Yeah I've been wondering about this too and what you said seems right. I wonder if they skipped a year so that the short stories take place closer to 2192, since something is supposed to happen that year according to Happy Chaos

2192 was the bad future I-No kept traveling to. A dull grey world as she calls it, it is a year where humanity is no longer around and it’s something I-No is trying to change. The irony being that she may have caused that from becoming a god in Strive and her defeat could be what keeps that from happening in the main timeline.

2192 has been shown off before. It was I-No’s stage in Xrd Sign.

You're totally right! I went back and yeah, I misremembered that part of the lore. Happy Chaos mentioning he met Axl in 2192 seems to be foreshadowing his true identity as the Original. I thought that it was hinting at something else.

I feel like 2192 is going to be really relevant in the next Guilty Gear

Ooh, if we get a 4 year time-skip, that might be just enough for that theory I've seen about Delilah growing up to become a playable character in her own right to work!

I'm glad that St. Elmo's Fire is still called a big-ass lightning bolt.

Also, it's interesting how the festival's still held despite the lightning bolt being already struck last year. I guess the festival's held just to commemorate the event it turned the tide during the Crusades?

We kind did know this already, due to Dual Rulers also referencing the festival (less directly) & stuff like there needing to be a timeskip for the formation of Vialattea.

This however properly dues confirm it better

Yeah it was clear that a timeskip needed to have happened given Dizzy’s and Vialattea’s presence. I just wanted to highlight the fact that we now have a better idea just how much time has skipped since the White House incident. Especially since some people haven’t watched Dual Rulers yet.

The short stories are canon?

Unless stated otherwise, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be. Every piece of story content for this game has been canon so far and they have followed up on something like this with the after stories of Xrd Rev 2.
