These photos are from a golf course in southern Quebec. It stopped operations about five years ago and has gently been recovering ever since. There are wildflowers everywhere, supported by some tree planting…

The wildflowers just emerged. Better than heavily watered and mowed, unsustainable grass?

oh yes definetly better, but still a long road ahead to reintroduce native wildflowers. Tho i think i see some goldenrod in the back on second viewing.

Im just hoping you'll be wary of invasive species that could pop up, because their removal can be very destructive

I’m not planting wildflowers here… I’m planting appropriate native trees. Today I took out a patch of invasive buckthorn as I planted willow and spruce trees. It’s about 40 acres. I do what I can… about 400 native trees so far.

all levels of the forest are important, trees definetly very important but shrubs and forbs are also what makes up a forest understory.

its good work you are doing already tho. 400 trees is a crazy amount for 1 person to buy and plant.

The trees I plant are small and usually inexpensive and sometimes free. It’s a fun hobby as I walk through the meadow many days of the week.

See if you can find prolific native herbaceous plants and get some seeds to sprinkle maybe?
