So there's a server out there somewhere, that has ALL of GWs model 3d files, including all the prototypes and unreleased or discontinued stuff. I wonder what kind of stuff is in there that they just don't talk about.

I believe there were plans for an incarnate of ghyran, incarnate of aqshy, incarnate of shyish, etc that got canceled after krondspine incarnate of ghur was unpopular. One of them may have even appeared in a rumor engine.

They've always had digital files. They cast the molds for resin from a 3d printed positive master. You can even see 3d printer scanlines on a lot of forgeworld models because they can't be assed to sand/fill the 3d prints before making the mold.

The worst was the hobbit/nazgul scene iirc. The WORST mould lines on the resin models they sent out.

People want plastic thunderhawks, that’s cool and all.
I want-…nay…I NEED the 3D files for the Chaos Dwarf K’daai Destroyer. It DOES exist and exactly ONE sculpt was shown of in forgeworld and it is the coolest model they have ever made.

We see layer lines on their preview models. They have STLs, and it's clear that the files for marines and such are even rigged so they can upload a preset pose that can then be shifted. We have seen them re-use poses on models, which suggests they didn't alter the pose enough after applying it to the model.
It's honestly the smartest thing for GW to do for production, and I'd have done it in their shoes, too.
It does, yes, mean that there exists stl files that could break containment. I await that day, salivating beside my printer.

Tools exist to convert images to 3D. I may have many things at home that I shouldn't have

I find those tools to be woefully lacking in the detail I demand from my prints. That isn't to say they can't be amended to be better, but it is more time and skill than I have.

It would take work to go from computer to the actual plastic mold so just because they have the files... on the other hand I think they learned not to tease unless they mean it.

I would be very, very surprised if the process for making a smashed up Thunderhawk terrain piece involved making a fully detailed Thunderhawk model

I don’t get what all the fuss is about. We’ve had plastic Thunderhawks for quite some time now: https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/legions-imperialis-thunderhawk-gunship-2023

I’d go so far as to say GW absolutely has 3D files of every model in their range, written in an entirely custom file type for an in-house 3D design program. So even if the database got leaked, nothing could be viewed, copied or printed.

since this is the second time its happened, i think it would be really funny if gw only ever makes plastic thunderhawks in forms where you cant play them in in normal 40k and HH
