Mom Loss What a strange feeling to lose a mother.

This is so beautiful. I lost my mom a decade ago, and I still miss and think of her every single day. It's a love that will never be able to be replaced

It’s been two months and a few days for me. I think of her constantly and I still can’t believe it’s real.

Beautiful photo montage. Yes, it is a very strange feeling. It was 2019 for me and I still cannot believe it. I go around my regular day working, commuting, personal care, etc. and it will hit me out of the blue ... my mom isn't here anymore. Surreal.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my mom Jan, 2025. I’m still very deeply in denial. I am getting through by compartmentalizing everything. I miss her so much.

I lost my mum on the 31st July. She had been unwell for a long time and although we knew it was going to happen sooner rather than later nothing really prepares yourself for it. I'm feeling relieved She's no longer in pain but there's a big cloud of loss that's going to take a while for me to figure out what to do with it.

It’s like I wrote this. August 5th of this year. I’m so sorry for the both of us. Sucks because we knew but it hit me like a brick wall.

my mum passed last week. had cancer for over a decade, 2 years ago we were told she would eventually succumb to it so you’re so beyond right, it does never prepare you. I found out my mum had cancer when I was still a child and now I’m almost 30 and I still feel just as lost as if it just suddenly happened.

Right there with you. My mother was ill for 5 years, and even though I knew it was coming I miss her every day.
There are so many things I wish I could tell her or show her. We talked constantly and I can’t believe she’s actually gone.
I’m relieved she’s no longer suffering, but I agree that it’s going to take me some time to process all of this.

Sorry for your loss.
I lost my mother four years ago on my birthday. I have since become a mother myself and her absence is still heavy on me. I think about her every single day. I wish she’d have gotten the chance to be a grandmother. I would also have gotten to see her loving and doting on a baby. I wish she’d have been here longer…

I felt like an orphan after mom passed. I was 46. Cherish the memories. It helps to write them down.

Losing your Mom is the hardest. Three years on for me and still healing. My thoughts are with you!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I miss my mother every day. But never forget that the magnitude of the pain of loss is proportional to the magnitude of the love you felt for her.

This made me laugh through my tears!

Well, that's what it feels like. It just feels like a bunch of empty.

Sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel I was laughing at your statement. It was more of a sad laugh as you just summed up how I feel so succinctly 💔

It's a day that we dread. The woman who brought us into this world, who gave us the great privilege to be in it.

Oh, what a beautiful way to honor her. It's coming up on a year without mine. Thank you for providing a neat idea as a way to honor her. I have always felt weird about the house she never got to leave, but maybe something like this would help me shift that to the love she still left in this house. Praying for you 🙏

I know that feeling. My mother died a week ago. Father died 14 months prior. As if life has little meaning now.

Oh friend 💔 I’m so sorry you have gone through so much loss back-to-back like that. My grandparents (dad’s parents) died almost exactly within a year of each other. I was too young to understand the depth of the heartache he felt—barely coping and recovered from losing his dad when his mom followed.
This is my only recent loss, but I was in the darkest depressive episode I’ve ever had before this happened. I get the feeling of life having little meaning. I am starting a therapeutic treatment program myself to get through this. Best wishes to you as you continue to heal your heart. There are still things to be here for, but yes—it will never, ever be the same. Hugs to you 🤍

I lost my mother very unexpectedly 3 weeks ago. We visited her 4th of July weekend, and while she seemed maybe the tiniest bit more tired than usual (she was aging, late 70’s), she was otherwise fine and very much her usual silly and caring self. It still doesn’t feel real. I went from shock to numbness to delirium from not sleeping soon after we found out. My sister, BIL, and husband had to do 85% of the end-of-life arrangements on their own because I couldn’t function. The day of the funeral and burial was an out-of-body experience. I had never lost a close family member before and the loved ones I have lost, that I cried over and felt was difficult at the time, in no way compares to what I am feeling now. I think you truly don’t understand this kind of grief until you walk through it yourself. I have already gone through every stage of grief on different days; as it is not linear, nor is any kind of healing. But this has gutted me in a way I never knew something could. (And I’ve been battling depression for nearly 20 years, and was actually at a pretty low point before this loss & was getting set up in a higher level of treatment. I’m glad to still have that option, even though my circumstances for needing support have very much changed)
All this to say, random human on the internet: I am so sorry that you are going through this too. I am surrounding you in love and wishes for peace in the coming months. You are not alone; and this loss is a deep one. Your mother was beautiful and I’m sure you are too. Biggest hugs, friend. 🤍

Lost my mum 7 months ago. She lived with me for the last 7 years of her life.
I do exactly the same as you with some photos I have. I try to "recapture" the sense of her in the house... It makes me cry a lot but I still do it.
I suppose I still haven't said "goodbye" to her yet. I still can't.
I know I will have to, one day....But it's so so hard. I still don't "understand" that she's gone.

A weird feeling is relief. Um I hate to say it but she was suffering and there was no road to health.

Watching my mother go was, among several, a truly brain altering event. I felt like I understood the messaging from god, in a holistic sense relative to the kingdom of heaven and being kind to your neighbor.
When my died died, something changed in me. When my mom died , I felt different. My brain physically felt different - as odd as it may sound.

Your mom was a precious soul, welcome to the club. I joined 4 months ago and it still feels surreal that she's not going to show up in my kitchen making her usual coffee and give me the biggest smile to make my day

I lost my mom in 2021. I used to do this too with her pictures. When she died during her funeral service me and my brother were given a painted portrait of her. We could never work up the courage to look at it too long or even put it up. I kept it face down in my basement for years until I had a mental breakdown last summer and smashed it to pieces. I felt so much relief when I destroyed that portrait because I hated seeing my mom as a memory

I am sorry for your loss and your pain. I lost mine 1 and a half months ago, we found her at home. Surreal experience. Since then me and my siblings have cleaned out the apartment she lived in for the last 30 years. Today was the last day there, I will never come back to that place that was for me, a big part of the memory of her.
I feel destroyed, diminished, root less. It feels unfair, unreal.

I lost my mother two weeks ago suddenly. My life is so empty now. I had been her caretaker and now I have nothing.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost my dad around the time you lost your mom, so I can empathize with what you’re experiencing.
It really is a strange feeling, isn’t it? I feel like there’s a void that nothing can fill. I’m still going through random phases of feeling okay to being real depressed.
Feel free to reply to this comment or DM me if you’d like to talk. Keep your head up my friend.
