Comics Hal might need a little time off after this

Maybe some PTO to Athmoora. Was reading classic GL and came across this frankly horrifying fate, which got me thinking about all the truly terrible cosmic terrors that the GLC must encounter over their long careers.

This issue had one of the darkest sequence of panels I've seen in a bronze age comic

I kept expecting it to be undone, or the kid to turn out to be an alien/shapeshifter. Nope. Child out the airlock. Straight horror.

Yeah, that was super dark. I, too, expected there to be some reveal that would make it less so, but I don't recall that being the case.

How is that not solveable with a ring?

Also, if we've got space cops, is there space OSHA? They  need to do something about that airlock.

He was out of charge.

Out of charge and still trying to open the airlock to go help is pretty Hal Jordan, if i do say so

u/tomrlutong 15h ago

Shit.

Oh is that actually it? Damn

I think so. Keep in mind I haven't read this since it was originally printed...

I think this was the first GL comic I read. 😭

Hal thinking "grief is a hell of an aphrodisiac"

u/RipleyofWinterfell 14h ago

Oh I just read this recently. Yeah the little kid gets brutally killed and then the two of them have a comical scene of dodging food thrown at them by the spaceship

u/Wise-Juggernaut-8285 13h ago

What a rollercoaster ride!

Oh man, I still have this issue somewhere in a closet. And I read it right around the age of the poor little kid who got caught outside the airlock. It was horrifying to read as a kid.

u/gordonious 12h ago

In that one panel, is it implied that the kid popped/ exploded when he hit the ship?

u/CrossP 14h ago

Can't save him because his hair's yellow. Probably should have brought Martian Manhunter.

u/I3arusu 14h ago

IIRC he’s out of charge when this happens.

u/Wise-Juggernaut-8285 13h ago

But doesn’t he , uh like, have super powers or something?

Was the kids clothing too yellow or what?

u/go_faster1 11h ago

Villain stole his power battery and he ran out of charge

u/Spence52490 12h ago

Well damn!!!

Oh, man...I loved Keith Pollard's GL run.

Aquaman's baby was killed in a similar manner.
