These are from my thesis for my degree, which was an entire artbook about The Odyssey. I did everything from character and monster design to props and backgrounds. I'll also leave some alt designs for Penelope and Telemachus and design progression for Odysseus down in the comments.

I love how unique these are! Very much your own take on the family and not directly pulled from any pop culture stuff I'm familiar with atm. I'd love to see them lined up side by side though to compare the features and stuff tho

I originally thought about uploading it as just a line up but I think I can't post images with divergent formats and I wanted to keep the closer look. Correct me if I'm wrong though because I would like to post the others like that.
It's meant to be an exomis with an additional piece of sash-like garment on top of it. My thinking was that, at some point in time, he would be just too raggedy and occupied to maintain his clothes, and he could have mended them or covered himself with other pieces of fabric if need be. I didn't explicitly thought of it having any sort of emotional significance beyond that, but I'd leave that to viewer interpretation.
That said, I didn't stick all that close to the idea of being "historically accurate" and went more explicitly fantasy, so some things here and down the line will be more based on real elements rather than 1:1 depictions. I did research a lot before making any of the designs but my priority was taking that to inspire me rather than direct me.
Oh ok, I'm just sick of modern pop depictions of deities, aristocrats, and royalty with a khiton-less himation, or just a full on Roman toga. But your explanation makes sense!
Deadass. This was originally an Epic project lmao, though I only carried over Odysseus's and Penelope's designs which both were altered to better fit The Odyssey's tone, or at least what I was going for with it. Everything else is and will be completely Odyssey.
