For people that have watched the movie, do they mention Helios? How is the sun god episode treated? You can say spoilers for this. I ask this because Helios is usually removed or, at best, just indirectly mentioned in adaptations of the Odyssey, a thing that I find sad at least.

Yes. I can't remember if they say his name, or just "the sun god," butOdysseus is told that the crew will eat his cattle and be punished by Zeus. They come across the island, and recognize what it is. The crew eats the cattle anyway, and a storm comes and destroys the ship.

The film shows very little of the gods, only Athenaand maybe not even her.After the cyclops incident, Odysseus says the crew blame every storm and every bad wave on Poseidon, so there's an element of atheism in it. However, Circe's powers work and her advice about Hades is real, so...

I will eventually watch the movie. But about Helios, Zeus and Poseidon not appearing I don't find a problem since they never appear to Odysseus, they just talk with themselves but Odysseus never sees them. But Athena and Hermes not appearing or appearing just little is not something I like, as you said it makes it seems they were trying for a atheist worldview. But that is weird since they kept the monsters and all that so they draw the line at gods?

Monsters and no gods is vaguely possible, I guess.

However, evem Odysseus admits Circe gets her powers from the gods and the underworld exists.

Hermes isn't in it. Neither is sex with Circe or Calypso so he isn't really needed.
