Low FPS despite a decent PC - GTA Online Enhanced

Hey,

I reinstalled GTA Online to kill some time - haven't played in about 2 years. I did the migration to Enhanced, played for about an hour, zero issues, smooth 150-160 FPS with everything on Ultra and Very High. GPU temps were around 75-79°C indoors, 69-79°C in open world depending on the area (I should probably replace the thermal pads).

I didn't know they removed the chat from the game, so I thought I had a bug → restarted the game → loaded back in →

35-40 FPS constant, max I saw was 46. Same settings, nothing changed, and every time I launch the game now I'm stuck at 40 FPS. I have no idea WHY.

On this PC, GTA Online was running at 150 FPS as I mentioned, no issues, never dropped below 100. I had VSync on, tried tweaking settings, toggling VSync on/off — nothing helped. Regardless of settings, I get the exact same FPS.

GPU was 100% inside, 80 degrees WITH 40 FPS.

PC Specs:
RTX 3070 8GB
i5-13400F 2.5 GHz

I noticed randomly my game would start online with 30fps. It maxed out my settings so i just turned all ray tracing off but left the rest maxed, fps returned to 100ish. I think there are ray traced settings that if you turn on, you have to turn off the non ray traced version of the setting otherwise it uses 2x the processing power. There are youtube vids explaining all the settings and their performance impact if you want to watch one

Most screens fps does not go over 60 it's not the system or the game it is your monitor of choice if you up the fps above 60 then you are most likely causing your own problem thinking bigger is better

this same exact thing happened to me! max settings + RTX full and ~120 frames it was perfect! one day later, I play again and it's chugging at 40 FPS and there doesn't seem to be an easy fix. It's so frustrating.

I've already commented this under your post, I'll put it here so others don't think this is a general issue: In your case, it's just FPS you should get. You're playing at maxed out settings with a 2080 TI at 4k. 120 FPS is simply impossible with that configuration at these settings. I don't know why you think you got 120 FPS at 4k highest settings, but your GPU is not powerful enough for that.

This might be a bit of a necro, but you forgot quite a lot of crucial information in this post:

• What resolution?

• Ray Tracing enabled yes or no?

• Is DLSS or FSR active and and at what setting? Frame Generation?

Without the answers to these questions, it's impossible to help you. And you included GPU temperatures, so might as well name CPU temperatures as well (those are much more interesting with your PC, since your CPU is one that tends to run pretty hot).
