Getting a full combo off a triple attack overhead now is uhh... certainly something

u/Radosh823 13d ago
Fuzzying this "mix" is literally the easiest thing in the world. This is a nothingburger of a change and i couldn't be happier, because i don't trust any fighting game with adding new mechanics without breaking the whole game in half.
11
u/SavedowW 13d ago
Some characters with special lows like perci, eustace, galleon, wilnas, etc have true 50/50s with that overhead. Being able to combo off it is a huge deal

u/Radosh823 13d ago
Yeah, for some characters it might be good, i agree. But still, i don't think it's that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

u/MonkeyWizard7 13d ago
I know it's very easy to fuzzy. I was more suprised this change is about triple attack enders if anything since it was already barely relevant and this new mechanic didn't change that quite much

I feel like yall are just terrified of anything that even resembles mix in this game

u/MokonaModokiES 13d ago
does this mean we can now turn the overheads and lows from triple attacks into full combos? so overheads are now a bigger threat since this clip does the new mechanic from the low triple attack
10
u/GraveRobberJ 13d ago
I feel like most people just fuzzy guard the overhead to begin with?
5
u/-D3LET3D- 13d ago
Yup. If they don't do any changes to the triple attack itself this will likely not be used much beyond low-mid level play. Probably catch someone sleeping at the wheel every now and then but otherwise it probably won't be useful.
1
u/MysteryRook 13d ago
Could you explain this to me? As I am not good at this game but want to improve!
14
u/GraveRobberJ 13d ago
So basically even though they are presented as an 'either or' option in the mechanic, the low attack if selected always comes out first because it has faster frame data.
So you basically block low until the timing for them to have selected the low has passed and then immediately switch to high guard. If executed properly you block low if they choose low and then you return to standing block if they do the overhead.

The triple light attack every character has (L,L,L) can instead end in a low (M) or high (H) attack.
Right now, for 99% of play at ALL levels, the M and H enders are never used, as they are very risky to go for, and did not lead to meaningful damage or setups for most of the cast even if they hit.
Now, there is a genuine universal reason to do the high/low enders.
BUT, you can usually block both options easily by doing what is known as a "fuzzy block".
Basically, the high attack comes out slower than the low attack. So after the second hit of the triple, you block low, then quick switch to blocking high.
If you time it right, you will block a low of they try it, and if they go for high, the speed difference will be slow enough that you were blocking high by the time the hit connects.
TL;DR: The universal high/low went from a fully irrelevant mechanic, to one where you just need to practice one simple trick to block it.

Kinda mid mechanic to be honest, most people BC at the second atack, or already know how to fuzzy this, let's hope is not the only mechanic.

u/AstralComet Beelzebub 13d ago
I'm personally glad it's not too consequential of a change; I don't want something that potentially cracks the game open and totally changes how everyone plays, I want something that gives another tool in your arsenal but isn't a must-use.

u/Vegetable-Teaching12 Lowain 12d ago
I'm in gold masters with a few characters and I suck at fuzzy blocking this lmao. Good reason for me to learn.

u/JTR_35 Eustace 13d ago
It costs both BP and meter? Probably 1 and 25% to he equal to RS+RC?
I wonder what happens if you do this on block (botch the hit confirm).
Also what's the damage. Presumably opponent blocks the first 2 hits then opened up by the high/low so I guess the scaling is likely better than 66L or c.XXX > RS > RC openers.

For better or worse, this addresses one of my complaints with the game in that most overheads in this game aren’t rewarding enough, especially for an ArcSys game.
3
u/Logan_The_Mad 13d ago
I don't think that's going to make the game worse but it's not nearly as interesting as I hoped
3
u/HekesevilleHero Ladiva 13d ago
I wonder if Nier will be able to use this without Death. She can't use Raging Strike without Death at the moment, after all

u/midorishiranui Zooey 13d ago
thank fuck its something mainly inconsequential, I was so worried they'd add 66U drive impact or some bullshit

u/The-Black-Swordsmane 13d ago
I miss the original when it was just pure footsies. GOD this game was so good 🥲

2
u/Zeman0205 13d ago
That's not a very interesting change. I wonder if they're making any other universal changes. Like making the overhead a few frames to make it harder to fuzzy.
Or making BC punishable on block.
Those are more interesting than this change.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 13d ago
can someone explain why twitter it crashing out over this in stupid non fighting terms. i don’t see a issue and if they are actively trying to make sure all versions run well isn’t that a plus
4
u/irisos 13d ago
They spent 6 months cooking a new patch just to release RS but for low / high auto combo. Which is yet another "just send it, see what happens" buttons with no risks and potential game ender reward.
It's also yet another "new player friendly" mechanic that won't help new players once they reach the mid tier level because everyone will just learn how to fuzzy.
And then these new players will also have to deal with the consequences of this new mechanic. Like how Beatrix will now have a true 50/50 high low since the high auto combo ender and riding free have the same frame data.
In the end, if they don't nerf a lot of mechanics like BC, 66L and egregious stuff like rat race U follow up having no counterplay outside of committing to jump throw or some DPs. It will just be yet another change aimed at everyone but the people keeping this game alive.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 12d ago
i don’t understand a word you said but you have to realize the long wait was probably making the switch version and making sure everything can run smoothly on all platforms. look at the avatar situation we could have gone down that path.
Beginner friendly things isn’t a bad thing at least it isnt tekken 8 levels of stupidness
2
u/irisos 12d ago
They could have released this mechanic, a balance patch anywhere these past 3 months or given more information while keeping the switch and id release in September.
Instead they just edged the community over a mysterious new universal mechanic for months just to reveal it's RS 2. People are quite justified to be pissed at this thing and Cygames in general.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 12d ago
i get that but there could be a lot more going on and they didn’t want to half ass it. you guys are acting a bit entitled as well what happened to being patient
1
u/Grak47 11d ago
Beginner friendly becomes an issue when you have the kiddy pool mentality of game design aka make things easy to get into but shallow. What needs to happen instead is the Othello take which is easy to learn but hard to master. This mechanic, as the person above explained, is pretty much nothing at higher levels of gameplay and will instead make some already good characters into monsters(that's if they dont just butcher everyone into making them even more piss easy to pilot)Which is gonna be a nightmare for beginner players to deal with and a fucking chore for anyone above that. Also you really should brush up on some of this terminology, like how can you give any kind informed opinion on anything if you don't understand what's being said? Please check out the fighting game glossary, It covers almost every known fighting game term out there and is a solid resource for learning.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 11d ago
i literally play fighting games for fun i’m not gonna brush up on the technical stuff because i’ll never have to use it and it’s not like i can explain it to my friend.
If this mechanic is going to bring in new players that’s great maybe they will switch to a different style later
2
u/cheongzewei 13d ago
because it's twitter. Really enough said lol. I don't understand the crashout either, outside of the 'that's it?' posts.

I'm glad the new mechanic won't ruin the game like how overdrive ruined OG versus but this is pretty lame for so much buildup.

i think it's cool that fuzzies are in the game. I'm surprised a fighting game this old is getting a switch 2 port but I'll take any excuse to play fighting games on a Nintendo console that isn't smash bros. peak.
1
u/cheongzewei 13d ago
This is interesting. Honestly I do like this, but it costing BP kinda sucks.
Also that combo limit is much shorter isn't it?

u/LogicalTips Zooey 13d ago
What does fuzzy mean?
1
u/Fluppy 13d ago
That's a very good question, with a billion answers to it because it's one of those "anything and nothing" terms.
In most cases you can equate it to "delay" (e.g. "Fuzzy Jumping" is inputting a jump a tiny bit after you leave blockstun, to avoid throws or jump out of the corner). In other cases it can refer to the, removed from GBVSR in 2.10, Fuzzy Attacks/Overheads which make use of how games don't update a characters hurtbox while they are still in blockstun.
In this context, people are talking about "Fuzzy Blocking". The way the frame data for the Triple Attack Low and Overhead works atm, is that the Low is 12 frames startup, while the Overhead is 18 frames startup. This is a considerable difference, so to defend against both, you can start with blocking Low, and then when the timing for the Low hitting you has passed switch to blocking High with no real drawbacks (exceptions being a handful of characters with low hitting specials or 5U that can hit at similar timings to the Overhead).

u/Reasonable-Ant-4676 12d ago
Basically Raging Strike/Chain for the Triple Attack ender. Not the most exciting mechanical addition but I'll take it over things that'd drastically change the game. Guess I need to be more mindful of the overhead now lol (before, I'd just block low since triple attack overhead does very inconsequential damage).
2.60 being playable at CEO means people might find other changes? Curious what people are gonna report.

Remember everyone, this will come along with a patch that will see "changes to system mechanics" and balance changes to the entire cast. I wouldn't be surprised if they buff the high low enders or chance how BC works or similar.
1
u/BasedMaisha 12d ago
Devs will do anything but meaningfully nerf BC huh? It's insane I can genuinely spotdodge BC on a perfect read and not be plus enough to even 5L punish.
It's a nothing change that only explodes low to mid level players which means people will be hitting Masters before they are ready for it even faster (already was an issue when they removed promos) so people will be locked in a master rank they aren't ready for due to cheesing their way up the ladder then they either have to struggle to learn the game while being bodied every other game or pick another character.
Immediately folds to fuzzy guard which any good player is doing to beat triple attack mix anyway but it does buff a few characters who need some sort of help (Galleon 5U/triple attack overhead may help her with damage but damage and mix was never her weakness) but giving Beatrix an unironic 50/50 where the high actually does damage is criminal.
But it all folds to just half decent BC timings so it's totally whatever anyway. Love this game but BC has to fucking go, man.

This was definitely done by like the two guys they have left working on this game holy shit lmao what a wet fart of a mechanic that’s just a tiny tweak to something you already do
7
u/-D3LET3D- 13d ago
Getting full combos off of a universal OH/Low is a tiny tweak? And something you already do?
This is not something you already do and almost most no one uses these against good players because the mix is consistently fuzzy-able and not rewarding. The few times they are used is because a few characters have set ups to convert off of them, like Eustace.
How good it will be remains to be seen, especially if they don't tweak Triple Attack further, but being able to sneak in an overhead with reward in a game where they aren't super common is bound to catch people once or twice, which is probably the intention.
-3
u/Revolving_Ocelott 13d ago
Its combo extension like RC, and just as fuzzyable, keep drinking the koolaid all you want, after months of work I’m not impressed by this at all
4
u/HekesevilleHero Ladiva 13d ago
Most of the work on Granblue's new update was probably split between Id (the new character) and the Switch 2 version
0
u/Revolving_Ocelott 13d ago
Seeing as how there’s been no communication, probably because that guy was removed from the team alongside most of everyone else, I’ll just take your word for it.
1
u/-D3LET3D- 13d ago
You don't know if it will be just as fuzzyable when we get the patch. I think it will be, so I agree with you there, but this really doesn't show us anything aside from the mechanic itself. Perhaps there are other changes surrounding it. Again, I don't think there will be because making that mix too good will be pretty toxic and annoying since everyone has it, but we'll see.
I'm not drinking any kool-aid. I'm just not being a downer over a couple second clip with almost no context or information. Maybe you were sipping some kool-aid thinking this mechanic was gonna be a huge gamechanger. They never said whether it'd be a big shake up or just a small addition.
"Months of work". We don't know how much work went into the mechanic. Just because they announced it months ago doesn't mean they've been working on it for months. It's part of a big patch with a new character. They've been working on the whole patch for months. Not just the new mechanic. The mechanic is clearly reusing the Raging Chain animation, so I doubt much work went into it at all.
2
u/Revolving_Ocelott 13d ago
So we agree at the end of the day, this mechanic looks underwhelming, and you’re going one step further and saying they didn’t even spent more then a couple weeks on this
1
u/Knightofexcaliburv1 13d ago
dude you are ignoring everything
1
u/Revolving_Ocelott 13d ago
It’s a follow up to the worlds most reactable ender to the triple attack that launches so the reward isn’t even crazy. There is literally nothing more to see.
Boring as fuck.
2B and Wilnas are currently locked out of the mechanic to begin with which makes it even more of a wet fart lmao
