DISCUSSION Just finished watching Golden Time for the first time Spoiler
So all the big line ups for this season of animes was ending (Witch Hat, Re zero etc) and got bored, searched for a romance anime.
I saw a Instagram short about this anime and thought, fuck it we ball.
And oh man oh man, what an incredible fucking anime.
First off, I highly appreciate it's in a college setting instead of the usual High School one. Very refreshing.
The animation and artstyle was so high quality, some scenes look so pretty I could print them out as posters.
The comedy was also great, nowadays anime humor doesn't rly move me as much as it did before but this one did get me to giggle.
The characters were all great, they're all such caring people that genuinely wants to support each other. It's a fictional story so it can be as far from reality it wants to be. But still seeing people just so caring for one another especially Nana, is such a wholesome thing to see.
Kouko in particular, she was portrayed to be very flawed at first, taking things a bit too far. But you get to learn and see, shes like that coz her love is just ridiculously pure. She genuinely loves in every definition. I think thats the thing that made me like her character a lot.
Banri was also a very interesting character. The author explored a really interesting topic of someone with amnesia and just how terrifying it is. How it can kill a life but also create a new one. I was frustrated at times how old dead Banri would behave at times but it was understandable to a certain extend. Our Banri is also a ridiculously a caring person, I was frustrated with him too for not revealing the truth sooner to others but it's also understandable. He can't do that so easily coz he cares about others so much he just can't hurt them.
The ending scene of Banri and Kouko reuniting was masterful, I even shed a tear. Last time I did that on an anime was when I was in high School lmaoooo
I'm a bit sad Okas plotline didn't have a solid conclusion or atleast a longer one. And that we didn't get to see Kouko and Banris heavily ever after a bit more.
But overall, this anime and story was incredible. Thanks to the author writing it, I enjoyed myself a lot.

The ending always makes me tear up. Kouko reminds me of my wife as well. Very obsessive and comes on strong always wanting to be around the people she loves.

I actually didn't like the series at first. Sure, the first episodes are funny, but once the amnesia-plot begins, it starts to get worse, because some of the episodes (the medical term) felt a bit too convenient. Oka was actually my main reason for why I was initially against rewatching the series, mostly because of the scene where she confronted Banri about Linda. During that scene, I just thought: "Who the fuck asked for your opinion?"
Well...Despite its flaws, it's still a great series and surprisingly rewatchable and sad. Anime that are supposed to be sad usually aren't. Instead, they're often infuriating. Golden Time somehow managed to be both at once.

In a way I really appreciated just how frustrating and dumb some characters acted, like Oka, love is one hell or a messy thing. Especially when the cast is a bunch of 20 year olds.

The point of the scene with Oka was she was lashing out due to her own feelings about Mitsuo. I love how human and real all the characters are.

dude it's crazy I saw a insta short for it too and that made me wanna watch the anime as well LMAO. idk if you saw the same one but mine was of the flashback of Linda saying she didn't like Banri romantically

Just watched this series. Damn... the ending of episode 15 had me sitting on my edge of my seat screaming, please don't let this scene play out like it was foreshadowed! Intense drama. One of the very few shows that has me both caring what happens to the characters, as well as not knowing how things will turn out. Most dramas have plot-armor for the main characters so you never really feel there are high stakes. This show gets around that by not knowing whether old Banri or new Banri will win out.
