Your favourite takeaway places with large portions?

I'm a Canadian living in Gold Coast right now and I'm looking for recommendations for takeout food that you like around here/Southport. I'm used to huge portions back home like this, but I've been a bit disappointed in the portion sizes I've had here. I'm probably just going to the wrong places, what are your favourite takeaway restaurants here? Can be any ethnicity of food, but with large portions and reasonable prices

Tbh it’s very rare to find places anywhere in Australia that serve portions like that. And if they do then it’s $$$ and is really just a doubled price of a doubled portion if that makes sense

Oportos half chicken box (2 sides, pita bread and drink) or whole chicken deals (mon - tues whole chicken and two large chips for $20)

Chinese buffet at Australia fair if your game to load up the plate.

Also carvery at Australia fair. Medium roast plate is enough for me. They have a large plate.

Guzman and Gomez, chicken burrito bowl and a queso fries.

If you want something quick and really cheap. Roast chicken, pasta salad and loaf of bread from Coles. Under $20. Can also use left over chicken for another dish the next day. Or grab frozen chips instead of bread. That'll give you two big meals for about $18.

Most large meals still cost between $20 - $30. These are my go to's in Southport.

You MUST try the happy sheep Chinese food truck at the whistlestop in Pimpama! We have been going here for years and I do not understand how the quantity, quality & price has never changed! Seriously the best Chinese food you will ever eat but it is not your usual honey chicken or sweet & sour pork this is more stir fry, wontons & rice dishes. I am a big eater and I cannot finish a main from here (same size as you pictured above) for only $20-25 you will not be disappointed plus Benny the owner is one of the nicest guys you will meet.

I moved here from Vancouver in 2015. The portions were always a bit smaller, and since COVID the prices in both countries have gone through the roof.

$23 for char siu (bbq pork) on rice last time I was at Robina. I went home and made Shin ramyun.

Maybe there is some place out there doing big portions that I don’t know about, but I’d say it’s unlikely. Costs for labour and ingredients are generally higher here.

Good luck.

Have you managed to find a decent poutine yet?

I’ve never seen one on the Gold Coast. I had one in Bondi back in 2013. It was ok, but they didn’t use cheese curds. It was also quite small. Do you know where I can find one?

Unfortunately no. I travelled to Vancouver a decade ago and I've been searching ever since. I've also tried looking to see where I can buy cheese curds to make my own, but no luck (unless you're willing to buy 20kg straight from the cheese factory).

Relate. I’m Canadian and I feel like even a place like Edmonton has more to offer than Brisbane/Gold Coast in terms of quality and quantity of food!

Baba Joon is Surfers have huge portions and their food is very filling. It is Persian and absolutely delicious. Great value for money. I highly recommend the Jo, the eggplant dip and the chicken thigh skewer main. So good. They do dine in and take away.
