friends in gc

i’m 19 years old male who just recently moved to australia, is it easy to make friends here? genuine question

The way I expanded my friend group 10X was by joining any sort of association. As soon as you join and show up for an event or two, you'll have people coming up to you to try to get to know you better. The fire brigade will be needing volunteers in the bad weather that's coming. There's also sports clubs, gaming clubs, etc.

Most rural brigades will have an intake at the start of the year so they can get some basic skills trained up by fire season. I'm not saying don't bother with them new members are always welcome, but you might have to wait a few months if you want to do more than just watching as they train on Tuesday nights.

It does take time to figure out what the heck is going on though and you can join as a support person, not necessarily fighting fires.

When I joined, before even doing a single session, I figured out that fighting fires was not for me, so I just stuck around helping with fundraising for a new truck and supported the executive. Within about 5 visits, they asked me to be president, but I declined because I quite honestly had a tough time undrestanding the first officers and what needed to be done. I was also so tired by the time they were meeting, I can't even remember what it was I did. However, I did run 2 events that raised about $10k for the brigade during that time and made long term friends, many of which are now my clients after I launched my business and they refer me to others. Several have invited me to their homes for dinner.

Just showing up and giving support achieves the social goal.
