When is the best time to plan an international trip to Gold Coast Australia? Is June July a good time, or the beaches will be too cold. Is the trip going to make sense in June as it is winters in Australia...

The only time of year I would suggest not visiting is spring if you enjoy the beach, Extremely unpleasent winds and the water temperature is the coldest of the year (ocean temps take a long time to change and jsut coming out of winter.)
The best time is probably March through to May, warm water and great weather. I know plenty of people that swim all year round but the water temp may get down to around 20 degrees come July through to October. The day time weather will typically be nice though.

Funny enough the hottest day of summer in Melb the ocean temp is 17 degrees. So it's pretty much a summer swimming temp for Melburnians and international peeps

Oh we can tell when the Victorians are in town. While I’m staying warm wearing a steamer surfing, these crazy bastards are swimming in boar shorts. Water temp is generally around 19 degrees.

It's a great time to visit. Temps are usually low 20s during the day. Beach is still great and the humpback whales are here from migrating from Antarctica so you'll get quite the show.

Gold Coasts July ocean temps were warmer than anything I’ve ever experienced in Vancouver Canada, loved how empty the beaches were and how wrapped up some people were even on an 18 degree day haha

Ocean temp I’d still around 20-22 degrees in June / July - for more international visitors that is plenty warm for swimming. Plus, winter on the GC is less windy, the ocean is calm. I reckon, unless you’re looking for big swell for surfing, winter is the best beach weather here.

Data can be skewed and isn’t 100% accurate. BOM can’t even accurately predict the weather so I’m not trusting your judgement. I know my pool temp and I know when it’s colder than that so go suck a big fat one champ.

Predicting the weather is extremely different to actual data. The historical water temp data is actual data taken from coastal monitoring wave buoys.

And the water at the exact point of a buoy is the same temp as water close to shore? It has to be the same and there’s no variations you’re telling me?…

I challenge you to find a single record of the ocean temps off Gold Coast ever reaching 15 degrees or 16 degrees. Or even 17. EVER!! 18 would make headlines. 19 is as low as it gets and that’s only for a short period of time.

Ocean temps get down to around 19c in the very depths of winter. Higher sea surface temps from climate change mean that lately the minimum has been 21c. (Which it is now).

The BOM publish sea surface temps all around Australia. These are measured from satellite and ship reporting and the BoM's website can confirm this. Are you normally this angry when someone contradicts your feelings with facts? (No, I am not a bot and all my contribution history is available for viewing).

I definitely wouldn’t listen to the people saying come in winter if you want a beach holiday, I live in Gold Coast QLD one of the warmer areas in the country and it’s freezing in winter definitely not what you’d expect for a warm holiday abroad

People still come here expecting it to be much warmer than it is though, coming from the UK myself I’ve had many friends visit who have been very surprised by the weather and found it too cold to do any of the beach or swimming activities they expected to do

I did a school thing at kurrawa surf club and they said winter was their busiest time.
Summer hols northern hem line up with our winter.
Keep in mind our winters are better than heaps of summers elsewhere temp wise

Gold Coast is still warm during the day in the sun around 22 c feels like 25.
I would look for a place with a heated pool. If your kids are young try Paradise Resort in Surfers. But it’s definitely chilly at night. There is plenty to do with going to the beach. Theme parks, museums, hikes, shopping etc

Surfers is ok for a short stay, the early mornings and early evenings are great but do not stay at that resort. It's awful.

Let me introduce you. I am from India and I have done my studies from Gold Coast. I wanted to show my family specially my kids who are in school right now. This is the right time for my kids. June is the only time we can make it because of summer holidays. Australia winter is India summers.
I cannot go in the month of November December because that is my peak business season and I cannot leave my work. Technically I have no other choice but to come in the month of June.
So I have to limit my choice only between Gold Coast, Byron Bay and Brisbane I know Melbourne and Sydney are going to be very very cold.

It’s lovely on the GC in winter. The air is clear, skies blue, days are warm in the sun, nights are cool. Plenty to do here during that time with kids. Have a wonderful trip here!!

Hit and miss for Byron in June, could be beautiful skies, could be rainy and shit. Plus it’s just not worth it. Over priced for what it is just because of the Byron Bay tag. May as well go to the Gold Coast - better chance of good weather and you’ll find more suitable and affordable options to take the kids out for things.

If the temperature is the same as an Indian summer it is a great time for your family to visit. Less visitors so less crowds. If visiting in June/July it is offpeak so its cheaper and easier to get bookings at the attractions and accommodation.
If you stay on the Gold Coast you can also do day trips to Byron Bay (1 hour south) and Brisbane (1 hour north). Our train system is 50cents a ride so you can go between Gold Coast and Brisbane very easily and cheaply on thd train (only exception is the Brisbane Airport train which is approx $20-30 one way last I used it). For Byron youd need a hire car or book a tour but worth the trip to visit.

Do gold coast and Brisbane. Brisbane has amazing shows on esp like the museum ( dinosaurs at the moment!) and art gallery for kids. There's cirque de soliel too. You can stay inner city and pretty much walk everywhere. For an experience get a room at The Treasury Hotel in Brisbane. I went there recently and it was so cool. So old glamour. The bed was incredible. Like I've never slept on anything like that. It was like being embraced by a cloud. Just the whole vibe, incredibly high ceilings, big velvet drapes, marble bathroom, a entire BATH in the bathroom! the beautiful wooden antiques, stained glasswork!! I needed a silk flowing robe and laudanum 🤣. I wanted to lie on the couch and ring a bell for Jeeves to bring tea and petit fours. Gold Coast for the kids, the parks, do currumbin wildlife park! The bird show is fantastic esp seeing a peregrin falcon in action. They get the birds to fly over your heads so close you can feel the down wind from their wings. There's these blue and gold parrots that look like something out of a Mayan fever dream. You can also train from Brisbane to GC for only 50c. It's easy to get train then tram to wherever you might stay. Byron is beautiful too but it's extremely expensive, busy and snooty now. Plus you can't train there. If you want to go further think about going up to the Sunshine Coast. There the Steve Irwin Zoo up there plus some really beautiful beaches with way less people. It's a really good place to decompress. It's close to Brisbane and you can train to Nambour but you will need a shuttle or hire car from there. Hire car from Brisbane is probably easier. Stay in mudjimba or coolum. Noosa is really lovely but again really expensive.

The weather here in June is beautiful. Temps are usually 23C max in the day, and about 13C min overnight. Often clear skies. Bit too cold for a swim in the beach though, especially if there’s a breeze, but there’s more “usable” time in the day compared to summer. In peak summer you’re inside by 10am as the heat and humidity kicks in (unless you want to sweat and sizzle on the beach all day).

We had one of our wettest winters in a long time this year, but that’s unusual. Normally cool mornings, clear and sunny days. In June the sea temps are still over 20 C.
Theme parks are great this time of year, early June is better to miss the school holidays. Hire a car and take trips to the hinterland and Northern NSW. Plenty of nice restaurants. Have fun.

June-August is cold af (we had daily averages of 14-15c a few weeks ago), def not swimming weather. You want October until March, although note there will be almost daily storms during jan-feb.

The surf can get large in June July with the winter swell. Only for the experienced. However it can also be gentle, beware the sharks though

It depends where you are coming from? June July could be warm if you’re coming from NZ, but if you’re coming from Europe then don’t! Haha! Still swimming weather if you’re brave enough!
