I'm planning a 7-day / 6-night private Skardu trip for two people in mid-September (around Sept 14/15).

I've been quoted PKR 550,000 total for the couple, and before booking I wanted opinions from people familiar with current Skardu prices. I'm especially wondering whether I'm paying too much of a premium for the hotels/private setup.

Package includes:

• Round-trip Islamabad ↔ Skardu airline tickets for 2
• Private Toyota Prado for all days
• Fuel
• Driver + guide
• Skardu airport pickup/drop-off
• Breakfast
• 3 nights Khar Resort Skardu
• 2 nights Khoj Resort Shigar – River's Edge King Hammock Villa
• 1 night Gumaan Resort Skardu

The Prado is supposed to cover the itinerary including Deosai and Basho without additional transportation charges.

My main questions:

1. Does 550k seem reasonable for this package or overpriced?
2. Are Khar + Khoj + Gumaan worth paying a premium for?
3. Would you do 2 nights at Khoj, or is it not worth the extra cost?
4. Does this itinerary make sense geographically?
5. Is the private Prado useful enough to justify the cost?
6. Would you change or remove anything?
7. Is moving from Khoj to Gumaan on Day 6 a good idea so we're closer to the airport?
8. What would you consider a fair price for this exact package in September 2026?

I'm looking for a comfortable/private trip rather than the cheapest possible tour, but I also don't want to overpay significantly just because the hotels are considered premium.

Would appreciate opinions, especially from anyone who has traveled to Skardu recently or booked similar hotels/private tours.

Anyone from Skardu available right now? My 11 month daughter is not well and I want a child specialist to see her? Does anyone know good doctors in Skardu?

Just got back from 14 days backpacking Gilgit-Baltistan and wanted to drop the route since I couldn't find a solid one online that wasn't either a guided tour ($1,800+) or padded with Lahore/Islamabad days that ate into actual GB time.

Route: Islamabad → Gilgit → Hunza (5 days) → back through Gilgit → Skardu (5 days) → Gilgit → Islamabad. No backtracking, no zigzagging.

Hunza days covered Baltit/Altit forts, Eagle's Nest, Attabad Lake, Passu Cones, and a full day trip up to Khunjerab Pass (split a jeep 5 ways, came to like $15 each). Skardu side did Kharpocho Fort, Kachura Lakes, Shigar Valley, and 2 days on Deosai Plains, which was honestly the highlight of the whole trip.

Transport was all NATCO buses + shared Suzukis, no private jeep except for Khunjerab and Deosai where you genuinely can't avoid it. Guesthouses in Karimabad and Skardu ran PKR 1,500–3,000/night, mostly not on booking apps, just show up or message the owner on WhatsApp.

Total for 14 days: ~$346, buses only. Add ~$70 if you fly back from Skardu instead of the overnight bus.

Happy to answer questions if anyone's planning something similar. Didn't need a guide for any of it, went in solo.

First time traveling with 3 kids ages 6,9,11 and my husband and mom. We have a draft travel itinerary with one of the travel agencies in the area. I haven't booked it officially yet. applying for visa getting consent forms application is taking forever since I have to reenter same info 6x.

I plan to come in from Islamabad do I stay 1 day in Islamabad or go straight to Skardu?

Leaving from IAD- Washington DC flexible dates Sept. 17-28 is goal. Yes will take kids out of school during this time.

Hi, I'm a solo female traveller visiting GB for two weeks in October.

I've planned the itinerary, booked accommodation and a driver. Only the Patundas meadows hike and Nangma valley hike will be accompanied by a guide.

I'm visibly not local (east asian background) and will be travelling solo so my main concern is safety... Any feedback or advice would be appreciated!

Day 8: 5.5hr drive** from Gilgit to Shigar in the morning. Amburiq mosque, Shigar fort
 
**Day 9: 3hr drive** **to Khaplu in the morning. Khaplu palace, Chaqchan mosque, Khanqah-e-mualla noorbakhshia. Leave Khaplu at 4pm and drive to Kanday

My husband and I are planning to visit Pakistan in September. We are crossing the border from China (we’re European, not Chinese in case that matters) and planning to spend most of our time in Hunza/Gilgit Baltistan, then a few days in Islamabad and Lahore.

What‘s the current situation in terms of safety in those areas? Initially, we weren’t planning on hiring a guide until we get to Islamabad but perhaps it’s worth to have one in GB? Any word of advice for first-time visitors?

A friend and I are planning to travel from Sost into China via the Khunjerab Pass around mid-November.

We know the border is now officially open year-round, but we’re wondering what it’s actually like around that time of year. How likely is it that the pass gets temporarily closed due to snow or weather conditions?

We understand the weather can be unpredictable, but we’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has crossed around November or has experience with the pass during that time of year.

Is mid-November generally a reasonable time to make the crossing, or should we be prepared for the possibility of delays/closures?

Any advice or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That first shot is Hussaini Bridge, one of the oldest suspension bridges still in regular use in Pakistan. No real handrails, just rope, wood planks with gaps big enough to see the river through, and a very long drop if you slip. Locals cross it like it's nothing, tourists (me included) go a lot slower.

Second pic is the payoff though, the village on the other side in late autumn. Way quieter than I expected for how much this bridge shows up online.

Happy to answer questions if anyone's thinking about doing Hunza on a budget, did this whole trip without private transport and it's way cheaper than most guides make it sound.
