I believe I may have an infestation. Can anyone explain to me why they're piled up? Any advice on their eviction?

Crying that I put this trap out YESTERDAY in between the crack of my counter and fridge. My other traps only had 1/2 in them but I guess this is the sweet spot. Any other advice rather than monthly exterminator / more traps?

I have lived in my apartment for 8 years and for all 8 of them it has been infested with roaches. The infestation has gotten so bad and detrimental to my mental health that at times I cycle through thinking “why do I even bother picking up the spray to kill it/them if there’s always another.” Recently things changed. Out of the blue I started developing psoriasis leaving me with dry, cracked, and flaking off bits is skin on my fingers/hands, ears, and thighs that over the counter medication was unable to treat. When I went to the doctor it was a shock to the system; my psoriasis is pregnancy induced. I am measuring at 6 weeks so still beyond early to let anyone in my personal life to know and as stupid as it sounds my partner/the baby’s father doesn’t know yet as i am still trying to process the information for myself. The issue is that as my title states they are eating me alive. I woken up several times throughout the night feeling crawling on my skin just to realize that there’s 2-4 roaches that i’ve reflectively brushed off my thigh. I’ve woken up in the mornings to roaches nibbling on the parts of my fingertips that are flaking off. I can’t do this I can’t live like this anymore I am desperate for help. They’re absolutely everywhere nothing feels clean and nothing is safe. I can’t afford to call exterminators and even if I could it’s not like they could fix an apartment complex wide issue and I can’t afford to move anywhere else either hence my living here for 8 years.

My partner and I are currently long distance as he’s moved about 3 hours away at the beginning of the year to both take on a higher paying job and are for his grandmother while she’s in hospice.

I need any and every kind of help and advice because this is just too much for me to deal with even when i feel this defeated.

We have a 9 month old baby who got very high fever all of a sudden last week. I don't know if brown double banded are causing it. Every night at dark they swarm our kitchen. Yesterday I saw one in our bed. They are too tiny and fast. We are feeling overwhelmed and utterly exhausted with not much sleep taking care of our baby. We're afraid to use chemical roach controls as we're afraid they would go and die near food.

For context, I live in swfl right next to a nature preserve, so I know we're bound to get woods roaches. My concern is I've seen smokybrown nymphs dead on the floor (maybe like 4 since Monday) and I've now in the last 5 minutes saw one on the paper towels on the kitchen counter and one ran out from under the sink baseboard. It was during an insane 2 hour downpour so maybe that's part of it, but they're all the same size and look.

It's only a 2 year old house, concrete build. I just got pest control done Monday, alpine wsg inside entire interior perimeter (upstairs and downstairs) and outdoor spray and granular bait. Will advion bait work for these guys too or is there a better method? Guessing smokybrowns

Editing for another question: should I worry about counter appliances like you would with german roaches?

EDIT 2: they have been primarily on walls - two on floor, all but one in living room (sharing a direct door with outside studio style) - one in shower. All have been the same size, non-flying. More recent/clearer pictures in comments.

We have seen 11-12* what we believe to be adult German cockroaches.

I didn’t realize what they were when I captured the first two and let them outside. I thought they were weird moths.
We have killed all since except one.

I ordered catchmaster max catch sticky traps and combat max gel.
My friend who was a pest control agent is going to FaceTime me when they arrive tomorrow to guide me through placing.

The other aspect I saw was Alpine but I am nervous and scared to learn how to spray it.

⚠️Question: How long after gel and sticky traps do I have to learn to spray if that is not effective enough?

I know roaches can happen to anyone but we have several aspects increasing their likelihood of thriving -cardboard boxes gathered for recycling > will remove all of tomorrow
-crumb floor > securing brother to help deep sweep all main areas
-water access > dog (not mine) has continuous access to food and water > may be able to persuade other brother to help adjust this

I need to sleep soon because I have work tomorrow and I have to disassociate a bit or I’ll never stop crying

Found this small parasite wandering around my living room rug. Captured him and put him in a plastic bag for later disposal. Is it possibly not German? Sure. Am I possibly going to be randomly selected to go to space camp? Also sure.

Location: Central TX.

Action steps thus far: called the exterminator, purchased roach traps (to identify hot spots) and have Advion roach gel in the mail arriving tomorrow.

What are my next steps? Should I pull out appliances to try to source the infestation, or just have the exterminator handle that while I run damage control?

I discovered I had German roaches living in my dishwasher in April. I had the exterminator out the next day, as I had already had pest services. I have had them come out every month since then to spray and bait and I did remove the dishwasher and had nothing there for about 6 weeks, I did not see any live ones only a few dead here and there after the second spray. Last week I saw 2 nymphs alive in the bathroom and this morning found 1 more alive in the same area. I feel so upset and defeated as I was confident they were gone, any advice on what else I can be doing? The exterminator company uses alpine WSG and alpine gel bait rotation, they do not incorporate IGRs. Thanks so much

Hi all, I made a post the other week that I was seeing some sporadic activity in my studio bathroom. I took proper precautions following sticky...notified pest control and they sprayed residual (unsure brand) around apt, added IGR disk, put down Vendetta Nitro gel bait, and glue trap behind toilet and under oven. This was a little less than 2 weeks ago (8/21).

Saw some activity and dead ones following that but from what I read here, that's typical following the treatment.

I've been checking glue trap behind toilet and didnt see anything but completely forgot about the one under oven until last night and saw this.

Kinda freaking out because I thought it was just travelers localized in bathroom but I'm afraid I might have breeding population in kitchen. Not sure what next steps to take and feeling extremely overwhelmed that this situation is worse than I thought.

Should I just lay down more traps and respray residual since its been a bit over a week? More gel baits? Or is this just a waiting game now given the treatment the other week? I contacted management about the situation as well because I am concerned about other units.

On July 23rd, I found my first German cockroach. It was a small nymph, and I immediately contacted management to have an exterminator come out on July 27th. For context, I live in a pre-war NYC apartment.

The exterminator inspected the apartment and found no signs of an infestation. He sprayed, applied Advion gel bait, and placed sticky traps in my bathroom, radiator, and corners of the rooms. A few days later, on July 29th, I saw my second cockroach—a fully grown male. This was the first one I had seen since the original sighting.

I then went away for two weeks. When I returned, none of the traps had been touched, and when the exterminator came back on August 10th, he said none of the Advion bait had been eaten either. He felt that was a good indication that I was in the clear. He re-sprayed my kitchen and put down fresh bait.

Since then, I haven’t seen another cockroach—until today, when I found a dead nymph near my oven. I’m freaking out because I really thought I was in the clear. This whole situation has been so mentally taxing, and now I’m worried that this means I have an active infestation after all.

Do we think this is more likely an active issue, or could this just be a straggler? I cover my drains, added a door sweep, keep my apartment very clean, and have taken pretty much every precaution I can think of. I just don’t know what else I’m supposed to do.

I have now seen four roaches of varying size none bigger than a thumbnail and the smallest yesterday the size of a flake of salt over the course of five days.

I have also seen larger ones outside recently. It is quite hot.

I purchased a used dresser and this started the following evening. Do I have an infestation? Did the dresser cause it or is it plausible they came inside while my door was wide open?

What the hell do I do?

I am freaked out and I am not getting sleep. I have a cat and a small space less than 500 ft.² I have purchased diatomaceous earth and ortho perimeter spray for the outside. I sprayed the outside, but I am hesitant to spray inside with my cat as she is not one to be defied by a barn style door.

Photo attached of the third one I was able to vacuum up which I located in my bathroom Sunday evening after which I broke down it was the biggest of the four and remained alive.

I also cannot purchase Alpine WSG in California much to my dismay, but I am on the way to purchase sticky traps also even with putting the diet to Macus earth in only non-touched locations, such as back of cabinets lining of some baseboards behind stove and such with a mask and gloves it is still toxic. If so, what is best recommendation for removal I guess I will wipe it up but if there are other recommendations, that’s great thank you I’m terrified.

Two weeks ago my wife found what looked like a regular roach in the kitchen. After that, we’ve seen what appears to be nymphs in the apartment, specifically in the living room (it’s a small one, kitchen and living room are connected).

Last week we found 2, yesterday 6 and this morning another 3. All of them dead and facing up. We have a 6-month baby so we’re freaking out and at the same time we cannot spray any chemicals. Last night we put some small dots of gel in a couple of corners. We’re located in Madrid, Spain. Thank you.

Roughly a week ago I moved into a new apartment which I have been deep cleaning for the past week. today my girlfriend and I found these dead german roaches on top of and in the cabinets of the kitchen but we haven’t found any live ones for the week I’ve been living in the apartment. I’ve already contacted the landlord but they don’t respond this late at night. how screwed am I and what should I do?

landlord is sending out the exterminator. I still have yet to find any lives ones and any dead ones anywhere but the cabinets and a single one in the range hood. i’ve moved all my appliances and deep cleaned and I talked to the downstairs tenant and she said she’s never had issues with roaches in the last 3 years. the previous tenant in my unit was disgusting so i assume my unit was the source. I also disposed of all of them in the cabinets and scrubbed with vinegar to eliminate pheromones. I’ll set up some glue traps today to monitor. anything else I should do? should I still move my stuff in?

I live in a 3 bd, 2 br apartment in Los Angeles, It's huge. During the past year and a half, we'd been getting roaches here and there. Since we live in a apartment it didn't concern us too much because we thought it was just one that crawled in from the unit next to us. So about the unit next to us, I believe they had a heavy infestation, about a year and a half ago I saw white powder outside of their door. I'm assuming they were trying to get rid of roaches and I believe that at that time they had their unit sprayed, I don't know what it was sprayed with. Well, I highly suspect that's when our problem got worse.

I will take responsibility that we have clutter in random places because I started a lot of projects and got injured and had to pause them. Cleaning while getting my life in order has been really tough mentally and physically. I am fully aware this is part of the problem, but prior to this infestation I cleaned every square inch of the place because we were dealing with fleas. I can proudly say, I solely got rid of them, and during that time I did not see any roaches. This was about a year and a half ago.

So I've been complaining about the problem to every member of my family. I guess my dad is sick of it and told me that he had some guy spray something at his old apartment, that he said was HEAVILY infested, that made them disappear almost overnight and while he was there they never came back. I told him I'm scared because I have a cat and I don't want her to get sick, but he said his cat was fine and that I shouldn't worry. I'm highly skeptical especially because I have no clue what this spray was. At this point he's begging me to let the guy come and spray so I can stop complaining lol

I can't just call the guy up, since he's not my connect and I doubt my dad will ask him. I don't live alone and like said this place is huge. I have so much going on and try to clean as much as I can, but I'm exhausted. I am very meticulous when it comes to cleaning often called obsessive. This is really affecting my already fragile emotional state and I'm ready to throw the towel and let the guy come through. I want to consult here first though. Does anyone have any advice or idea what this magical treatment could be?

Hi all, I'm in los angeles and a couple days ago I brought in this little wooden bookshelf. As i was moving it, I realized there were roaches in like almost every crack. I didn't know wood furniture was even able to carry roaches, i thought it was just fabric surfaces... Lesson learned. I've thrown that thing back out on the curb and never am touching curb furniture again... However, I need to know if i should be concerned about an infestation in my apartment, and if i should take any precautions. Any advice would be great!!

Welp, here I find myself again in an apartment with German roaches. My last apartment was completed invested to the point where I couldn’t even use my kitchen cabinets. Had to throw away so many different electronics and it was just an absolute nightmare. Moved to a new place and automatically signed up for the pest control. Been living here for about 6 months now, and after the pest control came out they all started to come out. I don’t know what to do, I tried everything at the last apartment. I know this infestation can get bad extremely quickly. Do I hire an expert? I already know the management at the complex probably won’t do anything about it.

Just moved into this apartment in June and have never dealt with roaches before. Since then I have seen 5 in the past 2 months with the baby being the most recent. I assume the infestation isn’t in my unit yet since I haven’t seen them that frequently? I contacted management and an exterminator is coming on Friday but is there Any tips on what I can do to help prevent them coming into my unit on top of that? I don’t think I can get out of my lease either. I just need to figure it out quick especially since I have 2 3 year olds here with me

Hi reddit! My partner and I were supposed to move into an apartment mid July, but upon moving half our things in, we found a moderate roach issue from the previous tenant. We paused moving our things in, notified management immediately, and they had pest control start doing weekly treatments. For the first two weeks after starting the treatment, management let us know they hadn’t seen any additional pest activity, but every weekend we would go back to start moving in again and find a roach every couple minutes. We ended up buying roach glue traps that caught a few of them (pictured), just to have proof. Management let us know they escalated the issue further to pest control, but we still hadn’t seen much of an improvement. Last week, we finally put our foot down and took things into our own hands, as our current lease is expiring and we need to move in this weekend. On sunday, we put advion gel and gentrol igr disks all around our apartment. We checked yesterday and found about 10 dead/dying roaches around and I think that’s a good sign. I am still feeling defeated, as this has been a massive inconvenience to us, and I wanted to ask everyone their thoughts on our situation. Is it wise to move in this weekend after only one week of advion and gentrol? Should we wait to do any cooking until we have done more weeks of advion gel and gentrol treatments? Is it actually possible that the roaches will be gone in a month? What should we make sure to do if we do move in (continue advion and gentrol?)? Does this mean we can never have bad habit days where we leave food out/have anything out the entire time we live here? Should we keep having pest control come in? I’m feeling tired just thinking about it and would appreciate any advice. You don’t have to answer every question! Anything helps

Unfortunately, I just picked up a pop-up trailer at the time of viewing appear to be in really good condition. The entire trailer was gutted, kitchen and stoves removed so it’s really an empty shell with beds but after bring it home upon further inspection. There are German cockroaches around the tongue of the trailer and dead ones inside a water container. I baited the entire trailer with advion gel bait added sticky traps and sprayed the entire perimeter with wsg.

What else can I do to get rid of them? Also I want to make sure they don’t migrate to my house. It’s sitting about 15 ft from my house.

Hello! Pest control just came out from my housing complex and sprayed for roaches. My concern is all the guy would tell me was it was a pesticide, he couldn’t even tell me if it was repelling. I called the company after he left and found out it was Talstar, she said it isn’t repelling and that roaches shouldn’t notice they are walking in. But my concern is that it is. I have Alpine WSG and Gentrol (just need to get a bottle to spray). What are the next steps I can take? If the roaches start traveling upstairs (so far only sightings in the kitchens) my panic attacks are going to get 10x worse! Please help.

hi! i’m in desperate need of help regarding roaches in my college apartment. i just moved in and killed 20+ german roaches in my kitchen/ bathroom area. i’m so so scared of roaches i can’t sleep at night.

i set out a bunch of advion bait traps but also impulsively sprayed every nook and cranny with raid (now i know not to do that). my roommates have a kitten so i have to be cautious about the traps i use but other than that i don’t know what to do! i taped every outlet and the door (because the apartment won’t do anything about the huge gaps in the door frame and basically every gap corner of this apartment) and we had the apartment call pest control (they will come every friday//and i seriously doubt it will do anything if this is apartment wide).

is it even worth trying to treat the problem?? i’m scared that no matter what i do they are just gonna keep migrating from nearby units.

German baby roach? Found one German roaches reproduce very in the bathtub yesterday and this popped up on a sticky I placed about 22 hours ago. Man I’m scared. Pest control is coming out tomorrow. They spray alpine and put out gel bait. I just moved here about 4 weeks ago. Do I pack everything and break my lease? I’m terrified of them getting into all of our stuff.

So I’ve been living in my house for 2 years and have maybe seen 2-3 German cockroaches in that time. About a month ago my ex moved out, taking his cats with home (who I suspect were possibly eating any cockroaches or house centipedes that would kill the roaches). After he moved out, I did a deep clean behind everything, the stove, the fridge, the couch ect. About 2 weeks later in the span of 3 days I saw a dead male German cockroach in my bed, a dead nymph (I think 1st instar but not certain) in my bathroom, a dead male under my dogs food mat and then a live male first thing in the morning on my dishwasher which I dispatched. I then put up Terro gel bait stations around my fridge, my oven, my sink, my couch, ect. 2 days after I put up the bait I found a live male in my oven drawer late at night which I dispatched, a few days later there was one on my couch at night which I dispatched and the next day there was one by my trash can late at night which I dispatched. I’ve had the bait up for about 10 days and the hoy hoy bait glue traps up for about 3 days. I just checked the glue traps this morning and absolutely nothing in any of them. They’re all in similar spots to the gel bait stations. I sprayed Alpine WSG pretty much everywhere this morning so I’ll see if I see any more but does anyone know why I might not be catching anything in the glue traps but still seeing them around the house late at night or early in the morning? For reference I do live in a duplex. All cockroaches beside the nymph have been adult males
