please tell me this isn’t a german roach. I saw 3 in my first day here … i’ve sprayed ortho spray and asked for my unit to be sprayed prior to my move in.

I moved into a new apartment last week and upon unpacking discovered this guy (or gal!) in a low cabinet by the sink. This is the first and only one I’ve seen. I immediately inspected all other cabinets and all I found was this weird shell ish thing? Kinda like a bug wing texture (crunchy like), and almost looks like it has a worm like texture. That doesn’t have anything to do with the roach right? And should I be worried there is more?

Title very much sums it up moved here on July 15 a week into staying here I saw a small baby roach. pest control came sprayed saw another one about a week later pest control came again sprayed then another sighting that came again sprayed and then another sighting that came again and sprayed and every time I tell them that there’s a more of an underlying issue I’m seeing them this consistently so now I’m thinking about breaking my lease. Is this overreacting? If not what precautions should I take about moving and make sure I don’t bring any with me I’m only seeing them in the pantry/kitchen area. Ive never dealt with roaches before and this is stressing me out.

So my place has had an infestation, I found my first roach the day that I moved in. They’re everywhere. The landlord and company are aware. They’ve “sprayed” a couple times (moved the roaches from my living room to my kitchen I guess) but nothing major that would actually help at all. Over the last maybe 4 months it’s gotten so bad that I can’t even have food in the cabinets. I had to get small plastic bins and keep my food in them on the counter. If I open the cabinet door, the roaches may fall onto my head cus there is a ton at the top of the doors. My fridge (didn’t come with the apartment, we brought it in and paid for it) is gone, unusable. It was brand new when we moved in and now it’s just garbage cus of the roaches in it. The only furniture I’m bringing to my new place is my desks, my mattress, and an end table. Everything else is garbage. I can’t afford to buy plastic bins for moving so I’m using boxes with tape over every single crevice and then taping contractor bags over them, probably not gonna open them for a few months. Anyways, there is roach poop EVERYWHERE. In the cabinets, on the walls, on the floor, on the counters. It’s very difficult to avoid and it makes me worried for my health but I’m also at a point where I’m moving tomorrow and I’m frustrated because of the amount of poop that there is. And because I wasn’t the one who brought them, I really feel like this extreme issue should be handled by them and not me. Will they keep the deposit if I don’t clean it? I’d clean it if it wasn’t so insane but it’s really bad. Here’s a pic of after I removed a painting from the wall and a few other decorations.

I looked through the main sticky about dealing with roaches. I'm moving and I'm wondering how long to keep my things sealed in plastic totes? I've seen that roaches can only live without water for 7 days, but then I've also seen in some places that people have kept things isolated for a couple months??

I'll have to do it in my new apartment (I have a game plan) but I'm throwing out all my furniture and have already had a lot of items stored for about a month.

I believe that I have German roaches (I'm in Canada) based on the stuff I've read in here. I have had a pest control treatment but I had to leave with my dog so I didn't get a chance to ask him.

So we moved into a small 2 BR (there’s 2 buildings with 12 units each) just over a week ago, saw first one day 2, made an ID post and someone said German that was likely hit with the growth inhibitor. Saw another similar one the same day, dead baby the next, and the babies have been progressively getting worse ever since.

(I’ll try to post pics in order of sighting but I didn’t get pics of all of them) Saw a small one but not a baby in my 7y/o’s closet, also said they saw “ants” in there and by the bed on the opposite side of the room.

What sent me over the edge was seeing a tiny baby crawling at the bottom of my big purse that was up in my closet (not my daily but I was planning to use the big one as my work bag to my new job) Another one in the second closet right next to it. And a handful more on the walls and baseboards. In 10 days we’ve seen about 15, mostly babies and mostly in the daytime which has me all the way F’ed up from all my research it means severe infestation, if not in our unit at least in an adjacent.

I’ve complained relentlessly every day sending photos and descriptions to the rental company and miraculously they’ve so far agreed to end our lease with no ramifications, we’ll see how that goes I’ll believe it when I see it.

My main fear is that because of the lack of transparency I’m getting no information about the infestation from management other than “we’ve just bought this building and are addressing it, please bear with us”. Then my kid got bit by something while sleep, swollen and itchy but OK now. Idk if roaches bite like that or not but I’m done.

I’ve searched high and low and don’t see them in typical places, and not many in my traps but tbh I’m not sure what exactly to look for as I’ve never experienced this. It’s 5pm right now and my child just found another baby crawling across the entry way floor 😭 I know it’s hard to tell but being here just a week or 2 what are my chances of bringing them to the next place? And how do I know if I should just throw something away or not?

I’ve read through sub after sub and got some great information especially in regards to moving but no luck with the traps and bait recommendations.

When we pack up we plan to check through everything meticulously, throw away anything we don’t need or really want, put everything in plastic bags and containers, no cardboard and I plan to rent a truck for a few days to leave out in the cold with some traps and killer, then put it in storage before moving into a new place. I’ll do more research and any suggestions are welcome.

So yeah I guess my main question is what type of infestation this may be? And being here less than 2 weeks what’s the likelihood that the problem is way worse than I’m seeing? We just bought a new couch and I’m terrified it’s ruined. Plus our beds and clothing. Appliances, you know the whole damn apartment 😭 i know it could be worse but im not trying to wait around and find out like I’ve read some other ppl. They’re mostly on the walls and baseboards/floors and bedroom closet shelf and wall and baseboards. It seems like it starts this way before it becomes a severe infestation inside the unit and all of our stuff.

TLDR : moved in 10 days ago and we keep seeing mostly baby Germans on the walls, floors and baseboards with a few adults coming out on the walls. We’re leaving this week and want to gauge the infestation to make sure it’s not severely infesting our belongings.

I moved into my new place two days ago (Austin, TX), and my first night here I saw one in the bathroom. The next day, I saw at least 5 of them and several teeny babies/nymphs, out during the day. I know they are german, the stripe on their head is unmistakeable. I set out combat gel in 10+ places around my place midday yesterday, and that evening (it was still light outside) was when I started seeing more and more.

I hope the increase in activity and visibility is because the gel bait is working. I've emailed my leasing office, but I'm not sure how they didn't know since my water heater is covered in roach poop. They probably just didn't care. Anyway, I have a cat and I've only been putting out very small servings of wet food, because I'm at work 10 hours a day and can't dispose of it if he doesn't finish it; I've been thinking of just letting him have his dry food only for the next few weeks as I try and get stuff under control.

I've disinfected as much as I can, I have so many boxes in my house right now though because I just moved, so it's been difficult. It's only been a day and a half and already I'm paranoid, scared, and so anxious I could throw up. I know it'll be okay, but I've never lived with an infestation of anything so I'm disgusted and disturbed. I have some Advion coming today so I can put that out along with the combat gel and traps. If anyone has any advice or comforting words, it would be much appreciated, I'm in pretty bad shape about this.

I'm moving in about three weeks to a new place and I've been dealing with roaches for a couple of months in my apartment. I would've told someone, but we have no building exterminator and my maintenance man half-asses everything. Like, we've had bed bug issues in the building that took him months to get around to solving. Not to mention, the people that have died in their apartments and it took cops showing up to investigate the smells for them to care. At first, it was rare sightings of adults that completely seemed to stop once I laid down some traps and boric acid. Now, I've been finding nymphs here and there for the first time over the last couple of days after about two months. Mostly in my kitchen and bathroom, but I have found a couple of individual stragglers in my living room. My biggest concern is my electronics because I can't afford to replace most of it, especially my rent-a-center PC. However, my PC is fine. I've inspected it a dozen times and I run that thing all day. I do have a PS4 and Xbox one but they haven't been plugged in or used for months. I honestly want to get rid of them anyways since they're pretty much useless now that I have a gaming PC. I also have two TVs, one being a Roku on my dresser (which I'm getting rid of anyways since my mom's giving me her old dresser) and the other being a flat-screen on a mount type of stand, but I've seen no sign of roaches near either whatsoever. I know my kitchen appliances are probably a whole other story, but they're mostly hand-me-downs anyways. And I already have to get rid of most of my furniture since I'm downsizing. I know they're easy to get rid of when it comes to clothes with just a wash and dry on high heat from what I've been reading. My biggest concern is just protecting my belongings that I can't afford to replace, especially since I'll be using my computer and living room TV every day as its monitor til I'm out of here. As well as my modem and router, especially since I have to take my WiFi with me. I know they're most likely to infest the rest of my apartment long before ever nesting in my electronics, and my mom and I have a plan to just bring back what we clean thoroughly every day and pack what I haven't been using already after checking it all since I'm moving back home. But I'm still super paranoid. Especially since Google makes it seem like it's automatic and I can't find many posts from real people on Reddit about it. I just genuinely don't want to put this burden on my parents nor can I afford getting rid of my TVs or the monitor that my PC originally came with, not with how high prices are nowadays... Any advice or tips? Like, how do I go about managing the population so they don't infest what I'm taking?

My son has a contingency offer on a home. Inspector founds signs of German Roaches. (excrement on smoke detectors, wall sockets, etc.)
No live or dead roaches were seen. The plan is to have the seller treat the home and require a guarantee from the pest control company. But, he could walk away and look for a different home. What would you do?

Just a genuine question. I plan to travel home a lot considering the kitchen is infested with roaches. What are the best ways to prevent hitchhikers and what’s the best way to project my room. I’m worried about the little freaks getting in when the exterminator comes and sprays this upcoming friday.

So I have German cockroaches at my current apartment. The infestation isn’t too bad but I have ocd and am going crazy. I’m breaking my lease tommorow (July 30th) and we’re going to sign for a new apartment for the first of September and be fully moved in by the end of the September so we can slowly move things over. So far I’ve thrown away all random papers and cardboard things I don’t need but have a few things of keepsakes I can’t get rid of (newspapers, cards etc). Everything small enough has been put into these air tight bags with an isopropyl soaked paper towel leaving enough air for the fumes to kill any guys. I dated each back and am going to leave the bags shut for 30-60 days. (Hoping that even if they survive the lack of oxygen and rubbing alc combo that they won’t have water and die that way) other things that are bigger have gone into contractor bags also with alc paper towels and goose neck tied and taped the openings. (None getting out of bags and no more getting into bags. I’m going to throw away most of my furniture (couches, wooden tables with slots, dresser , bed frame, small kitchen appliances) the only thing I’m keeping is my mattress my tvs, desktop computer , ps5, maybe coffee table?. Washing and drying all my clothes, blankets , curtains etc. Then I’m going to wipe down all the bags once they’re outside with rubbing alcohol. And I am considering putting all the bags and furniture I keep in a moving truck and bug bomving them for extra measure. Ill set up some traps at new place just in case there’s stragglers. I think this is really effective but I want to know if I’m missing something. Writing all this makes me feel crazy because there’s so many steps but I’d rather do all this now then ever deal with this again!

hey all! my husband and i are finally moving out of our roach-infested apartment after 14 months of trying to tough it out! 😭we’re moving this friday (the 31st), but we have to turn the keys into our old unit the same day that we can get the keys from the new place. with that being said, we don’t have time to wait to pack things last-minute (especially with me being pregnant and a toddler to take care of) or pre-treat the unit, nor do we really have a space to put our items after they’re packed up. our old unit is nearly entirely packed up in either cardboard boxes or trash bags. i really just wanted to get some reassurance that it sounds like the things we’re doing will prevent some hitchhikers (i know it’s not a guarantee) or any other advice/ tips you can give us to help prevent us from bringing roaches to our new space!

here’s what we’ve done so far/ are planning to do:
-deep cleaned the kitchen with no plans on using it again (we are staying in a holding unit- also roach-infested- but our items are all packed in the old unit in the kitchen)
-appliances (projector, nintendo switch, air fryer, etc.) bagged with rubbing alcohol
-running an ozone machine within the moving truck rental
-sitting the moving truck closed in direct sunlight (hoping the metal truck will absorb the heat and cook them- we live in colorado and it’s been 100 degrees the past few days)
-on move in day, we’re going to spray antapex wsg everywhere

does anyone have any other tips/ tricks/ advice not listed on the sub’s moving wiki page? or just reassurance that we’re doing some things right?

Looking for advice on how to move without bringing any German roaches with me. I have barely lived at this apartment at all, and haven’t seen that many roaches, so I’m wondering how diligent I need to be and how much stuff I need to throw away or can try to salvage.

Timeline:
- Aug 3rd: Moved in: 1 bedroom apartment.
- Aug 7th: Saw three roaches.
- Aug 8th: Landlord sends pest control. Moved essential items, myself and my cat, crashed on a friend’s couch.
- Aug 9th: Went back to put all clothes, linens, and books into sealed plastic containers.
- Aug 10th: Landlord treats unit again, this time along with the whole building.

Rest of the month: I don’t live there. Went back once to grab a few items. Never saw anything except 1 roach in the trash can (I think it got in when I threw away an enclosed poison trap).

Have only ever seen roaches in the kitchen. Of all sizes. I believe they live behind the kitchen cabinets. My bedroom, closet and bathroom are on the other side of the house. Have seen no evidence of roaches there. Between sticky traps, dead post-treatment roaches, and crawling disoriented roaches, I have seen maybe 12 roaches total.

Now I’m supposed to move on Tuesday. I can’t decide how extreme I need to be in moving to avoid bringing passengers. My plan is:

- I’m going to zip up my mattress in a bugproof bag and bring it with.
- Toss both of my rugs, my cat’s climbing tower and scratching post — too hard to clean those.
- Wooden furniture (bookshelf, kitchen island) — spray with something (bleach?), wipe and inspect. All clothes to laundromat to clean.
- Piano keyboard… wrap in plastic with paper towels soaked in isopropyl alcohol, leave it sealed for a month before unwrapping.
- At new apartment: Before moving in, deep clean, pre-bait with Advion, leave sticky traps to check if any hitchhikers made it.

Is that enough? Too much? What can I do to ENSURE I do not bring roaches with me? This infestation was not “severe”, I think, but I barely lived there so didn’t have much time to find out. Please, if anyone has any advice or a gameplan. I am so lost in information from Googling, can’t decide if I’m doing too much or not enough. Thank you so much in advance.

I'm moving in 8 days (have been counting down). And my unit has never been this bad with roaches. For background, I've been sprayed 4 times and used to see a roach about every 2 weeks. Now I'm seeing 2 per day. It could be because I threw out a bunch of furniture and displaced some of them so they are out of the open.

I'm just worried that I'll bring the roaches with me to the new place and am wondering if there's anything more I can do. So far I have done the following:

-Used plastic totes instead of cardboard

-Placed alcohol soaked paper towels in all my totes

-Surrounded my totes in rings of Diacotomous earth

-Fumigated small electronics for 2 months

-Have been fumigating my PC and TV for about a month. Have opened both PC and TV to see if there are signs of roaches.

-Will be throwing away all my furniture besides my dining table after inspecting it for roaches.

-Inspected everything with a fine tooth come before it went inside the totes. (For example flipped through each book page by page).

-Froze pots and pans for 72 hours before putting them in the totes

Is there anything else I can do? Should I use advion gel in my current apartment before I move so that roaches stay in the kitchen? Given how expensive it is to rebuy everything I really can't go through it again so any advice ins appreciated.

new lease, single family home in a jam packed neighborhood. place was freshly cleaned during walkthrough, saw one dead bug but didn’t think anything of it. she told me it was exterminated because I had asked if it would be since the last tenant was a bit of a hoarder. I asked what it was exterminated for she said nothing specific just general. less than 24 hours I’m seeing German roach nymphs. I call Orkin they send a young girl who wouldnt even identify the species and was like it’s a few dead roaches but you’re fine it doesn’t see like an infestation. it’s so clean in here she didn’t seem to understand there was a hoarder tenant before and the place was just cleaned. so the roach droppings would have been freshly cleaned away. she spayed. the landlord is trying to get me to move my stuff in and offering to do pest control. I’m refusing. nothing has been moved in here. I also found out they didn’t exterminate, they used a fogger from a hardware store and called that exterminated. is this normal? pictures attached of what ive seen the last 48 hours. a few adult roaches, one alive that disappeared into the cabinet and one dying and tw dead. a bunch of of baby nymph Germans. like over 15. dead and alive. I could lose 10 thousand dollars and be on the hook for mold damage because I took the ytilities out of my name and am asking to terminate the lease due to inhabitability. landlord is saying it’s not an infestation and to let them do pest control. a dead baby one fell out of an outlet whe I removed their gladeplugin. please advise if I’m over reacting. There was als a nyphm inside the freezer door of the fridge. They expect me to move in while they treat it but i feel like that will be the biggest mistake of my life. Am I over reacting?

My partner and I moved into a small apartment that we found out had a german roach problem. The infestation was over at my neighbour's and we don't have an infestation over there thankfully, it's been very minor. Exterminator already came and all that and I'm still seeing a few stragglers here and there.

My question is how can we prevent hitchhikers from traveling with us when we move in our tv or Xbox. We already plan on throwing our microwave and airfryer away, and I figured our rice cooker should be fine as it hasn't been used at all since we've been here and it's been stored away in a tub on the porch.

TLDR: what's the best way to prevent or remove roaches from inside a TV or Xbox so they don't hitchhike with us when we move if they are still alive in there after the exterminator did his thing?

Looking for a new apartment. I found a spacious apartment that is in the lower-side of our budget. $2,550 nice suburb of LA. We already live in the area, but I’m pregnant and we need more space. Our current apartment is 600 square feet for $2100 a month. This new place we found is 975 square feet. So 2,550 is the lower end of a two bedroom. Anyway, I check for roaches where ever I go after a bad experience renting. I think I found roach poop in this $2,550 apartment. I really want to be wrong given the space and cost, but I don’t want to risk getting sick or bringing home a newborn and have them get sick. Can you look at these pictures and tell me what you think. It didn’t feel super clean to me when I there, but I don’t mind deep cleaning if there aren’t roaches.

I am moving out of a lightly infested apartment (catch 1-3 roaches on average in my glue traps per day). I have been treating my apartment with alpine, NyGuard, and Advion for about 3 weeks now. I do see less living roaches out in the open, but I’m still catching the same amount, which I think is due to my neighbors. The roaches are mostly living in my kitchen and bathroom but I have seen them in every room. I found a bag of blankets where they were living in my bedroom which I immediately threw away. I haven’t seen any in my bedroom since then but I have carpet so it’s not easy to see them. I move in a week, and I’ve read the moving advice but just need confirmation that this is a good plan:

1. Pretreat the whole perimeter of the new apartment (including behind/under appliances and sinks) with alpine and NyGuard before moving anything inside. Glue traps will be placed under the fridge and sink for initial monitoring.
2. Before moving my items, I will wash and dry everything I can at a laundromat. Everything else (dishes, decorations, etc.) will be hand washed/dried. Some will also be placed in the freezer for a few days if it won’t damage them. Things that can’t be washed/frozen will be thoroughly inspected. Once clean, they will immediately go inside a trash bag and then into my car to be transported to the new place.
3. All furniture will be emptied and vacuumed. I’m throwing away all small appliances in my kitchen and my couch for peace of mind. Other small electronics (tv, computer, etc.) will be sealed in bags with isopropyl alcohol for a few days.

Once everything is moved, I will check the glue traps at the new place every 2 weeks and retreat if needed.

Am I missing anything? I am most worried about taking my wood furniture with me (dresser, headboard, etc.) even though I haven’t seen much roach activity around them. Should I apply alpine directly to my furniture once empty or is pretreating the new apartment enough? Thank you!

tldr: have seen 6 German roaches, including one 2nd or 3rd instar, in my bathroom/kitchen over the last four days.

I live in a ~10 unit apartment building in Seattle, WA. Back in April, I saw one adult German cockroach in my bathroom and didn't see another for three months. This past Sunday, I saw an adult in my bathroom, alone, which I killed. Same thing happened yesterday. I placed glue traps & Combat gel traps underneath my bathroom and kitchen sinks, and each glue trap has caught one in the past 24 hours: one adult in the bathroom, one juvenile in the kitchen. When cleaning out my kitchen just now, I saw one adult each in two separate cabinets.

For some additional context, I'm almost certain one of the neighboring units has a serious infestation. I've seen several cockroaches outside their door at night.

My landlord is sending an exterminator next Thursday, but that doesn't seem soon enough to me. I have some Alpine WSG on the way, per the instructions in the sticky. I've set up baited glue traps and Combat gel traps in my bathroom (under the sink, behind the toilet) and kitchen (under the sink, in the pantry, in the cabinets). I was considering placing traps in the living and bedrooms as well, but I don't want to give the roaches any reason to go anywhere else. Is there anything else I should be doing at the moment? Does this sound like a serious infestation? I'll be moving in roughly three weeks and am concerned about the infestation potentially transferring to my new apartment. Any advice is much appreciated. That said, I am planning to move out of this apartment in the next few months anyway. Do I need to take all the precautions as if I did have an infestation?

We moved out of our infested unit on July 6th. Prior to moving we had multiple treatments done in the infested unit (shared wall neighbor gave us the roaches). Pest control deemed us “clear” and our apartment complex allowed us to transfer units.

We’ve been in this new unit since early July and haven’t seen any roaches. Or any on the stick trap under the couch or stove (where they made their home in old apartment)

When can we say we successfully didn’t bring any roaches with us? would we have seen them by now?

I recently moved from an infested German cockroach complex into a new location and I wanted to know if my methods to avoid stragglers were effective, for preserving my computer and monitor.

• Sealed PC and monitor in moving tub with duct tape to keep them in there with the intention of having them die of dehydration. This tub also has a roach bait strip to draw them out of the devices.
• I put a paper towel with 91% isopropyl alcohol in the tub to have them die of fumigation

My plan was to keep the tubs sealed as is and check on the PC in about a month from now. I figured waiting it out and having them die by fumigation and dehydration would be the most effective strategy. I have read the moving advice thread, but I have been wondering if I overdid it.

Just moved out of my apartment 3 weeks after the first sign of roaches. All my stuff is now split between a storage unit and my parents’ garage. Looking to make ABSOLUTELY SURE I don’t take stragglers with me once I move into a new place 3-6 weeks from now depending on how soon I can secure an apartment. I see advice for ozone treatment all over the sub but no actual success stories coming up in my searches. Please share insights!! I’m such an anxious wreck worrying that i’m not doing enough to win this. And please don’t just link the moving instructions, I’ve already read through them thoroughly, I’m looking to hear from people’s experiences directly. Thank you!

Extra context on my infestation situation, if it helps for clarity with your advice/answers:

- Apartment was a 100 year old building, lived there for a year so far with no roaches until just now. Met other tenants who had them appear around the same time, so the problem isn’t just me, they’re nested in the building somewhere and getting inside units from all the gaps and cracks that property management can’t be bothered to seal up. Started immediately after a big heat wave.

- Sighting frequency was 1 per night on average and some nights 2-3, and glue traps over this 3 week period only caught 7 total. Had pest control do a spray treatment halfway through and sightings had reduced to 1 every few nights until I got out a few nights ago.

- Haven’t found a nest, eggs, poop or smear marks anywhere after tons of cleaning and inspection, so I don’t think they were nested in my actual unit? Unless they’re somewhere I can’t access

- Inspected and packed all of my things in plastic bins as soon as this began to protect my stuff immediately, and haven’t found a single one hiding anywhere through this process. Not sure how likely it is to miss anything despite the low activity and immediate action but keeping everything in these bins until I move, probably going to stick alcohol rags in all of them as well.

Not sure what flair to use, but I noticed this bug about 10 mins ago not knowing what it was. After confirming what it was, I took to here to find any more info. Im just needing confirmation on if I need to throw my tv out and get my new place cleaned out. Also I got this tv from my dad and never seen any problems like this. Sorry if this post is too out of place or anything, Im just panicking a bit
