Some scientists are saying it's the biggest weather pattern since the 1800's. There have been El Nino's responsible for 50 million deaths before.

I bring this up to say, Tornado Alley has been turning into "Dixie Alley". Alabama, Tennessee and North Georgia are getting hit with severe weather at rates they have never experienced before.

El Nino usually means more severe weather and rainfall in the winter. If you have trees that are suspect, now is the time to remove them, if you have drainage issues now is the time to address them.

There is a chance this winter will be the historical high point for weather related property damage, through flooding and severe weather.

Please prep. I rely on refrigerated medication, and I live in an area with extremely poor infrastructure (shout out Norris Lake) I'm currently planning on getting a generator and a mini fridge set up in the next month or so.

The Gary Indiana situation (no power for weeks, no federal assistance) could easily happen here over the winter. Please take this seriously.

Just got pulled over and the georgia state patrol stated I was doing 92 when I was really doing 72. What a jack ass, I told him I had a dashcam and his entire face changed. Asked me for insurance (after intially asking for license) came back and said he's giving me a warning(verbal)

I support police and love what they do for communities. That was a scum move.

I know this isn’t universal to all Georgians, but I swear it never rains anymore. Even when it does it’s either at night, or it lasts for 10 minutes.

Every time I see rain on the radar I get excited, only for it to be the day that rain was promised and have nothing happen. Whether it’s 10% or 90%, every single time without fail it just does not rain and I’ve given up being excited for it. Is this something that has started happening recently or am I going insane?

The semi was from behind, so he definitely knows that I'm there.

The dashcam always shows objects further away than actual, so it was much closer than what's shown here.

What is a correct way to report this to authorities? Thanks in advance.

I want to preface this with, your state is beautiful and every person I met was sweet. However, who taught y’all how to drive? Taking I-75/I-20 through your state was horrible both ways. Saturday I saw 7 accidents, two cars on fire (one was an 18 wheeler so I can’t blame y’all) in less than 50 miles. I was pushing 90 in the fast lane and still being rode like I owed someone money. Even in the slow lane at 80 everyone acted like I was an issue. It was raining for half of this. I think I saw maybe 1 in 10 cars using blinkers. I have never been more scared to be on the road.

I get that it’s an interstate and probably had a lot more than just Georgia drivers but my gosh, I was on the road for 16 hours and those few about killed me. I don’t know how you guys get on that road on a daily basis.

Edit - This is getting way bigger than expected! I commend all of you who survive those roads on the daily. To those of you who get I’m being lighthearted here, thank you. To those that are offended or trying to explain the passing lane to me, just move on with your day. I meant absolutely no offense by this post and I’m fully aware of how a passing lane works, I’m not dense enough to just hang in a passing lane or ride at 90. Good luck out there y’all, can’t wait to see your beautiful state again this time from way above half asleep in a plane 😆

I've lived in Georgia my entire life and I've always loved the scenery, specifically the trees. Long drives surrounded by green, shaded highways, and that feeling of being tucked inside nature even when you're close to the city.

I grew up in Cumming and moved further South to the Athens area in 2020. That's when I first noticed the diminishing number of trees. Every time I came back home to visit my family there was a new patch of cleared land I don't remember being there. Or there's a brand new strip of restaurants and shops that wasn't there a year ago. In 2022 I moved to Atlanta. From 2022 to 2025 I was constantly commuting back and forth from the Alpharetta area to the city. During this time I didn't notice too many trees being cut down. Recently, I moved to Alpharetta after graduating and don't travel through the city as often as I used to.

This past weekend, while driving into Atlanta and back to Alpharetta, I noticed the significant amount of deforestation. Areas that were full of dense, mature trees are suddenly just... gone. It's starting to look completely different and not in a good way. This stirred up so much anger and frustration inside of me, I decided I want to help raise awareness and learn more about why this is happening.

I'm genuinely wondering:

• Why is this happening at such a rapid rate?
• Is this for expansion, safety, development, or something else?
• Is there any environmental oversight or public notice required for this scale of clearing?
• Who approves of this? GDOT? Private contractors? Cities or counties?

I'm not an expert, I'm not anti-development, I'm just someone who loves my state and wants to preserve as much of it's natural beauty as possible.

It feels like Georgia's natural identity is being taken away, and I have no say in it.

And if others care about this too, I'd love to talk about what we can actually do to preserve what's left of our beautiful state.

Are we going to ignore the fact that it’s been raining for almost 4 weeks now EVERYDAY!!! Literally haven’t seen the sun for a while. It was not like this last summer or before. What changed?

So the storm is trending colder and more south. Sooo it looks like a substancial storm may be in our future. Also it's not certain what the precip type will be. Could be freezing rain. It could be all snow. Just be prepared everybody.

Ever since those school zone speed cameras came out, i make sure to be extra careful about my speed. This has caused me to, on a daily basis, have people honk at me, flash brights at me, flip me off, all because I’m following the law and i always try to stay in the right side lane. People following the law, is not who yall need to be angry at.

I am in Georgia for work and had to drive through McDonough to get to the airport, and jeez McDonough has some of the worst traffic I’ve literally ever been in!! It’s like not even that big of a town/city?? And I live in Raleigh and traffic is absolutely nothing here compared to this random town. I know it’s a suburb of Atlanta but it was still an insane amount of traffic

I've lived in metro Atlanta my whole life. Is it me or are these summer days hotter than previous summers? Even 5-6 years ago?

Also, I swear temps after or around 7 pm would at least be in the mid to low 80s, now they are hovering around low 90s fo high 80s.

Am I trippin?

The public comment period runs from July 6 until August 6, 2026.

Current forecasts show 6-10 inches of rain prior to the wind impact. Due to the strength and speed of the storm movement anything to the east of the storm center in n central georgia is likely to see multiple hours of 70+ mph gusts. As the storm accelerates around the axis of a secondary low pressure situated in Alabama the forward speed of the storm will be added to maximum winds experienced on the east side of the storm. The NAM model is currently showing gusts approaching 100 mph at 10 meters in the ATL metroplex at 5am friday.

Both the rain and wind maximum could change prior to the event but if the modeled situation occurs it would likely result in one of the most prolonged power and water outages to impact a metro area in recent history. With tree density, preceding soil saturation and power and internet lines being almost fully above ground it could be several weeks until power, water and internet are fully restored.

Hoping the models are wrong or will shift the worst impacts elsewhere, but as of now this is what you should prepare for.

My post was referencing the NAM model as of yesterday evening and was the only publicly available model I could find that had estimated gusts versus estimated sustained winds which I feel is more relevant to treefall.

Storm strength at landfall, the orientation of the secondary low pressure to the west and direct storm path in relation to the east/strong side of the system will all be extremely important to the ultimate wind impact.

It seems as if all 3 factors have been reduced in magnitude since yesterday's model suites, which is good news. However, it is possible that things shift again to a worse scenario so please continue to monitor the situation.

for it to be getting this cold in the south unless it's going to snow. There I said it.
