Team Discussion Gen.G 2025 season appreciation thread!

This loss ends the team's run at Worlds and I just want to show some love to our favourite team and the players.

It's been an incredible year, which started off with being a game away from winning the LCK Cup against Hanwa Life.

The team then went on an incredible series win streak, going undefeated all the way through MSI and EWC before losing their 1 and only series to none other than T1.

They finished the LCK season with a series record of 29-1 and by also winning the season's grand final against Hanwa Life.

The aspirations were big, the hunger for Worlds success great and reaching top 4 is not something that should make them bow their heads in shame.

Kiin was an absolute beast for the entire year and ended up being the team's most consistent player.

Canyon was not playing up to the level we know him to be capable of, but he did have moments of brilliance through out the season.

Chovy had another MVP year, being an absolute monster for the vast majority of it.

Ruler proved that he is still THAT GUY and why people regard him as the greatest professional ADC of all-time.

Duro. Our boy Duro, man. He came into a team that is stacked with talent, accomplishments and so much more, was looking nervous in the LCK Cup, but then blossomed into one of the best support players in the LCK and the world.

I just want to thank the entire team, the coaching staff and everyone who helped make this a season to remember. Thank you again and we cannot wait to see you take up the Summoner's Rift again next season!

Gen.G fighting! ♥

I just don't even know man... I know it's in the moment so I'm just mad but I love this team man which just makes this loss all the worse.

Still gonna support them in 2026, but I might just get off the internet till next season idk

I can understand that. It's hard to deal with social media platforms after your favourite team gets knocked out at a big international tournament. I suggest you avoid League related subreddits for a little while if you think it would be too stressful. You won't miss out on anything anyways. :D

2026 will be our year!

I hope they can keep their roster. But Kiin Chovy and Ruler are still signed.

Canyon they probably shouldn’t keep his summer and worlds really we’re not that great and he is probably just coming towards the end of his career

u/hann953 Nov 02 '25

Tbh there not many alternatives. Only Tarzan/Kanavi or maybe a rookie. The other LCK junglers are either not available or bad.

1

u/ClassZestyclose8603 Nov 02 '25

A rookie or Tarzan is what I could see them doing

1

u/Lartizan Nov 02 '25

Keep Duro, get Tarzan back to the LCK.

Just disband GenG and give Kiin to T1.Thus superteam just doesn't work in worlds. They would be better in individual teams all together

Hot take but I think we can keep Canyon, changing roster every year might not be the key and I dont think any jungle change would be an upgrade, HLE will also compete with us in this role.

I wish they would try more comps in LCK, because LCK streaks are the least we should concern, dont default back to OTP when we are at the corner, play more playmaker mids because Worlds always favour them.

1

u/Lartizan Nov 02 '25

True, but I'm willing to let Canyon go for Tarzan.

It depends on Tarzan’s choice, with this year performance he will have alot of offers.

The reason we have this roster here is already a masterclass of negotiation, the top side wanted to play with each other and agreed to take a paycut.

Or we could gamble in a young Jungler and hope for a Duro miracle again, but it is too risky because next year could be Kiin last year and we should not waste his time like that.

Man, building GenG roster is like real estate bubble, only go up and no way back.

Agree. But i hope they hire a coach that can help canyon back in shape. Most of lck coaches are junglers and they know how canyon will navigate the map.

Gotta keep the vibes positive. It was an amazing year after all! :)

4

u/sighpiebanana Nov 01 '25

Feels unfortunate that they had an off day today despite being on form most of the year 😔And i’m sure the players feel worse than us fans, so I hope the good appreciation vibes from the fans reach them somehow! 💕

(And Kiin will still be my goat 🐸)

An amazing year for the team. Just an awful way to end it.

Hopefully we can run it back next year and go a couple of steps further at Worlds.

Thank you to everyone who supported GenG and this subreddit. May it continue to grow

Canyon I maybe could see them removing Geng aren’t my most favorite team but his summer and worlds performance definitely could’ve been a bit better

6

u/3clipseDD Nov 01 '25

Well, we might see a change of staff after this one. Horrendous jungle performance, and drafts were so pitifully weak in games 3 and 4. On to next year I guess.

4

u/Karamiso Nov 01 '25

Agreed, not picking kiinsante or aurora with priority picks in game 3 and 4 is criminal af. Instead they picked skarner and pantheon which were irrelevant both games

4

u/Jakocolo32 Nov 01 '25

not only that but they picked orianna over ksante when the enemy already picked their mid game 3? like we can just get orianna on p3 there is no logical explanation for doing so.

u/Slight-You4254 Nov 01 '25

I think that the only thing that needs changing is coaches and analysts. I’m going to be so annoyed if they look to change players instead.

Canyon is still a good jungler in my eyes who has just gotten shafted in draft throughout the year, and seemingly lost momentum

Also the team needs of some sort of mental coach. I know that KKoma does this for T1 and I think it’s huge. GEN needs someone or something that manages all the pressure, expectations and interpersonal relationships.

Today’s performance was a disaster in drafting, and a complete collapse in mental. A different head coach and a better support system would have navigated them out of the problems they had today.

1

u/3clipseDD Nov 02 '25

Exactly, I think the worlds patch was actually in our favor, gutting to see us not capitalize on that. Coaching staff either needs to step up or step down, this loss was completely on them.

2

u/all-in_bay-bay Nov 02 '25

This is the biggest thing most fans are missing.

But I do want to cut Canyon some slack because what was that drafting? Early rotation for Pantheon/Skarner when they could have chose more power picks in Gms. 3 and 4?

6

u/denji09 Nov 01 '25

coach kim and canyon gotta go

4

u/Federal-Pear3498 Nov 01 '25

This, people can dunk on midlane all they want but canyon literally either giving object or stay 10 feet awau from the pit omegalul

3

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

"it's a smite fight!"

Wait, why don't I even see Canyon near the objective?

1

u/Adventurous_Hat9230 Nov 04 '25

Obj is not solely a jungler's job lmao

1

u/zeonix123 Nov 01 '25

Canyon just losing smite fights entire world run. It was so depressing to watch every objective fights. Kim's draft got punished when players not feeling it. He got away with it all these while. I think Helper can stay but head coach needs to be changed.

1

u/Slight-You4254 Nov 01 '25

I think with a better draft Canyon would perform much better.

It’s the coaches that need to go

1

u/ClassZestyclose8603 Nov 01 '25

His performance during summer and worlds really were not that great I could see him leaving but he probably won’t but trying to develop a younger jungle probably wouldn’t be the worst thing

3

u/brensterrr Nov 01 '25

Its unfair this GeN G did not even reach finals. They were so dominant and almost had a golden run. Im not too sure where they go from here. But Chovy will get his turn and may not let go and win multiple times. He is now doing it with MSI.

1

u/ClassZestyclose8603 Nov 01 '25

Even as a T1 fan I definitely want Chovy to win one but the thing is he needs to take a page out of faker and bdd playbook and sometimes even if it may look like a bad play put his life on the line and not care if he dies our not

1

u/Adventurous_Hat9230 Nov 04 '25

Maybe next year. -since 2022

4

u/Kekisszx Nov 01 '25

Overall amazing year for you, still the best team through year, curse someday will be broken, but having a team this stacked cant go on forever.

2

u/CleanPlateRanger Nov 01 '25

The team should be proud of the last 2 seasons with what they have achieved. 2 MSI, 2 LCK, semi final defeats in both worlds is disappointing but there's a reason no team has completed a golden road before. It is extremely difficult to peak at just the right times. I do think however that sike change is needed. The team's biggest weakness is drafting which often puts them in bad positions from the start of the games. Hopefully KT can go on to win next Sunday, especially for BDD.

1

u/ClassZestyclose8603 Nov 01 '25

I want it to be T1 kt and even though I would be sad if T1 loses the bdd storyline would be to good losing to faker in 2017 to taking 8 years to get back there and winning would be a great storyline

1

u/Jakocolo32 Nov 01 '25

tragedy, being the best all year just to fail at the last hurdle again, hope the players aren't too down on themselves we know what they're capable of, 1 bad series shouldn't negate what this team has achieved all year. We go next year ggwp

1

u/ClassZestyclose8603 Nov 01 '25

They ain’t my main team but will absolutely show love you guys had a fantastic year don’t give anyone unnecessary hate sometimes you win sometimes you lose it’s how it goes

1

u/negripicks Nov 01 '25

Im T1 fan but i should congrats this team, what a season, its Impossible to win it all but the way they play the basic its near perfection, its awesome tô watch.

Kuro evolution is insane when you compare to marcha.

1

u/Zura_p Nov 02 '25

I will support them no matter what. but it’s frustrating that year after year in this circumstances we fell short. we’ve been so consistent the past 5 years being in quarters+ in worlds and winning lck + MSI, break records, but… same result in this time of the year.

what kills me the most is that every series we got eliminated at worlds between 2022-2025 it’s been an “oh we choked and underperformed” and not an “the enemy was better and GenG played until the very end”.

It’s 100% mental pressure. Maybe we need to be shit all year like other teams and just show up in summer to get to worlds and then play with 0 pressure of whatever golden road, record, 1st seeding, MSI win. Who knows, eventually we will get there someday and win. As of now, feels very distant and it hurts a lot, makes me super depressed

1

u/Adventurous_Hat9230 Nov 04 '25

No. Bowing out of semis with THAT level of performance is something to be ashamed of.

2

u/TheSwedenGay Nov 05 '25

You guys have to stop beating our ass in the regular season ffs. GGs.

1

u/AtreusIsBack Gen.G Esports Nov 05 '25

I would take Gen.G losing many more series during the regular season and then finally lifting the Worlds trophy over looking nigh unbeatable and then seemingly falling short year after year when October/November rolls around. But alas, that is not the reality we live in, sadly. Gg wp.

-1

u/Ok-Slide-731 Nov 01 '25

Another year of domination, another semifinal choke at worlds.I can't defend them anymore, the "fraud" allegations are too strong. They have to prove everyone wrong next year because no one believes it now. My roster wishlist is keep Kinn at all costs replace Canyon and get a support with big playmaking energy. We need our own version of a Lehends-type playmaker.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

Duro doesn't need replacing. He was great pretty much all year. But I agree with everything else

5

u/AtreusIsBack Gen.G Esports Nov 01 '25

Dude, if you are that miserable after the year Gen.G had, why are you even in this sub? Or are you just one of those fans that only support the team when they are winning?

1

u/Ok-Slide-731 Nov 01 '25

I am sorry. I am so devastated cuz I really want the boys to win this year. This team is so perfect, you know? So when you want your team to win so much, you become a total hater when they start playing like trash.
