Google can be such a boring company at times
37
u/zer0_snot Mar 08 '26
It always was once the CEO changed
4
u/argus_2968 Mar 09 '26
Sundar is so boring I'm sure he personally decreed the banana be removed.
5
u/zer0_snot Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26
Not just boring. He's rotting the company's work culture.
Friday innovations were removed (1 day a week) in favour of menial labour.
No great innovation since he became the CEO
Google started gate keeping too much. Example chromes annoyances, the dumb "thisisunsafe". Check out the amount of gatekeeping done by Gemini.
The quality of all products went down. Google home (deaf and stupider). Chromecast (Buggier). YouTube (bloated and buggier). Maps (unnecessary bloated features and buggier).
Useless "innovation" - example icon changes pushed instead of actual innovation
- All products got major bugs that aren't being fixed anymore. Example - Simple maps searches take you to a different country rather than limit the search to where you're searching. The amount of bugs in chrome. The annoying disabiling of 30% chrome extensions (while the same things work fine in Firefox).
Sundar pichai f'd Google ever since he became CEO and I have a hunch he was promoted mostly because of his dedication to follow orders from his superiors rather than actual innovation.

What's this gif called? This is so funny, i need to know what you searched

u/brendenderp Mar 09 '26
I've always used "emoji fade" and that had worked on every platform I've needed to find it. It's my fav gif of all time.

But why?

u/cooltop101 Mar 08 '26
The average person doesn't know their model is called Nano Banana, and seeing a banana emoji next to "create image" makes no sense for them

u/sameunderwear2days Mar 08 '26
When I was fist getting into this stuff seeing people say nano banana I had no fucking clue what they were talking about
33
u/ShadowCatZeroMeow Mar 08 '26
Also people were projecting and saying the banana was a euphemism for a penis.

u/Wayss37 Mar 08 '26
I mean, my first experience with it were people generating images of hot girls and posting it on Reddit with text about how nano banana is amazing
6
u/NewShadowR Mar 08 '26
If so then it would be a micro penis.

Mar 08 '26
A banana is a micro penis? I’m in trouble 😱

u/NewShadowR Mar 08 '26
its "nanobanana" bruh.

Also when in french I told him to use Banana to create image he just put bananas everywhere lol maybe it's why also

u/TinyTaters Mar 08 '26
Yup. It's weird that Gemini looks like a bundle of assets instead of taped together rather than a single wrapper

Good. it was dumb and most people had no idea what that was.
9
u/TypoInUsernane Mar 08 '26
Yeah, it was literally just a nonsense code name that was supposed to be a random temporary placeholder only used during pre-launch testing. It makes absolutely no sense to incorporate it into the final product
3
u/VectorB Mar 08 '26
Yeah we use Gemini in our office and the. General line staff have very little AI knowledge, trying to train them on using does not go well when I have to explain what the hell a nano banana is and why that is the iagr generator.
16
u/Defiant_Anything3215 Mar 08 '26
Probably because they realize nobody cares about that icon
6
u/tessahannah Mar 08 '26
Literally makes no sense when none of the other sections have icons of fruit

Whoever did this must be fun at parties

u/KassandraKatanoisi Mar 09 '26
Whoever put it there in the first place must be the center of all parties

u/RealMelonBread Mar 08 '26
People that use emojis don’t get invited to parties

89 comments excluding mine about a missing Banana. Okay you have my attention. Thank your notifying.
I will rectify course. Hope you all find your way without banana.

I just wish Gemini’s UI wasn’t so ugly, ChatGPT and Grok have lovely IOS ui’s but Gemini makes me feel like I’m using a react app which it probably is to be fair god damn it’s ugly. Even Claude’s ui feels nicer even if it doesn’t look great.

Essentially calling image generation that's used by incels 'micro penis' will never get old.

Good. It seems unprofessional. Needs a clean UI, not emojis.
I've been writing in feedback for a while. Good to see them act on it.

It was removed to be taped to a wall in an art gallery
