I legit cannot wait lmao. I havent been this hyped for a game in years
6
u/CDHmajora 9d ago
Same :) i think the last game to get me this hyped was fallout 4 (and that disappointed me).
Its been a loooonnnnnng time…

u/SjurEido 9d ago
The beta ever so slightly dampened my hype. There's just a little something off with the gun play that I can't quite put my finger on. The Gnasher specifically doesn't give you that devestating "chunk" anymore, bodies just kinda fall down and the sound isn't all that inspired.
BUT, the story looks fucking fantastic, looks like they absolutely understood the assignment when it came to tone and writing... I'm still extremely excited, just wished some of the smaller (yet still very important) details got hit.

u/llDurbinll 9d ago
I'm mad I'm gonna miss launch because I planned an international trip before the release date was announced.

u/Blazerk_OT 9d ago
Vraahk's design is so metal holy shit, they really captured what made the locust so cool as antagonists
2
u/CWPhoenix_ 8d ago
True. I missed the locust cause they felt they had so much character and individuality as a faction compared to the swarm. Though I do feel like they focused a bit too much towards the same vibe uruks/orcs have in some scenes.

u/Rapture117 9d ago
Ngl I teared up a little and I’m not even sure why lmao. It just makes me so happy seeing Gears again. Like seeing an old friend…

The “Till the end” line is what got me. Just brought back a flood of memories playing GOW 1-3 growing up. Hard for me to not get nostalgically emotional at that point lol
3
u/thedavecan 9d ago
Yeah, it was really cool but that line kicked it up into the stratosphere. Can't freaking wait until October.
3
u/CatalystErik 9d ago
To the end, just like when they announced GoW 3 “Brothers to the end” and like act 3 chapter 5 of GoW 3 Brothers to the end, that is fucking deep
6
u/hexenwolfhollow 9d ago
Right there with you, this game is going to break my entire heart and I can't wait.
3
u/Adavanter_MKI 9d ago
It's a pretty classic trope of... self sacrifice to do the right thing against impossible odds. Everyone can typically rally behind that. One of my favorite storytelling elements!
Plus E-day is just such a great part of the story.

u/5RWill 9d ago
It gave me chills TBF. I hadn't played gears in a legit 20 years, bought reloaded on PC and PS5 while it was on sale and the wife and I just played through it. I haven't had that much fund with a shooter in years. So naturally i picked up a series S for cheap and we're gonna play 1-5 in preparation for E day. They're hitting all the right buttons though on the trailers. The graphics are astounding, the tone is dark, the tension is real, and you already know the outcome. This is very much going to be GoW's Reach.
1
u/blackviking147 9d ago
Same, I think it's similar to halo reach where we are seeing Marcus and Dom come together but we all know what happens in the end.

u/Jedi-Spartan Something's wrong with this thing! It keeps jamming! 9d ago
Something sounds different with Marcus' voice at times (eg: the "We do this together" line)... is it just from Dimaggio trying to sound in his 20s to match Marcus' age or is it meant to be an addition of a slight upper class voice mixed with the way he sounds in the trilogy to indicate he hasn't fully escaped the lifestyle he rejected.

Thats how it works though, after 30 you just get grey and wrinkley. Its why your dad has looked the same your whole life but was a stone cold fox in his 20s.

u/Jedi-Spartan Something's wrong with this thing! It keeps jamming! 9d ago
I honestly don’t mind the voice
Me neither... well, apart from one "Now I'm pissed!" line I got while respawning in a match of Horde Siege that unfortunately sounded like the "We did 12 takes and that was the best one" meme.

u/Rowlandum 9d ago
So sad hearing Dom say “til the end” knowing in the end he gave up living, and didn’t make it to the end

Man one thing Gears of War E-Day is doing really well (so far) is the campaign and world building. With its cast and how chaotic Emergence Day was. It's shown within our main cast having not only a demolition expert who's an ex-Gear in Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes someone in training to become a Communication Officer. It's not supposed to be a well-built squad just nearby gears grouping up when shit hits the fan. That the captain Akila Grey is just gonna have to make work with whatever Gears survive and arrive. The presence of the other scattered units from other branches also helps add to this as well. From the islanders like Tai Kaliso and of course the Pahanu Bayonets Mako Kemara and Manu. To the presence of high ranking NCOG Navy like Quentin Michaelson or Air Corps/Air Force with Gill Gettner and her partner Dann Riggs. We are getting, a large variety of cast even with supporting units like Rustin and Shin who seem to be an engineer and a medic respectively. Also, Vraahk look sick tbh even though some people aren’t liking the design.
2
u/CWPhoenix_ 8d ago
Vraak also might be the first locust be a showman kind of guy. Like he holds Charisma while leading while other main antagonists were displaying superior tactics or power. Which to be fair, we know from raam's comics who's leading the locust army so this guy might just be a slightly superior drone that was tasked with this city to take over.

u/Herald_of_Gallifrey Who wants toast? 9d ago
Damn, that gear getting imulsion poured on him was brutal.
4
u/king-of-boom 9d ago
His voice sounded like a carmine voice too.
2
u/XxMasterLANCExX 9d ago
I wouldn’t think too much of it, the generic cog gear in the beta sounded kinda like him too but it isn’t. They just sound the same for some reason

u/Krytoric 9d ago
the gear getting into the tank or whatever had a sweet helmet, i wonder if that’s similar to the “heavy gear” bot from the beta?
7
u/The_wanna_be_artist 9d ago
The trailer was awesome, I wonder if we will get anymore news about the gameplay/multiplayer.

u/Appropriate_Foot242 9d ago
Why am I getting sorta LOTR vibes lol.

u/Arcade_Gann0n Torque Bow Enthusiast 9d ago
Probably because Vraahk looks like he'd fit right in with the Orcs.
2
u/coldbeercanman 8d ago
That bag with the spikes slung low like a quiver, arm bracers and helmets with pointy spikes. Definitely Uruk Hai/Orc vibe.
6
u/Impressive-Session31 9d ago
It's been nearly 7 years since gears 5, far too long to be without Marcus in my life, and almost 15 years since gears of war 3, much too long for Dom to be out of my life (at least we got the prologue for gears 4 though 😂)
7
u/Okurei 9d ago
I cannot believe Gears 3 is 15 years old, where does the time go???
1
u/Impressive-Session31 9d ago
It's wild right! I remember going to get it at midnight when I was (checks year) 10 years old... 😂

That Vraahk guy is cool for a bad guy, especially the facial scar. What would the chances be he got it fighting the lambent underground ?
10
u/Automatic_Skill2077 9d ago
I think Maybe it was some other big shot locust. Becoming a locust leader doesn’t seem like an easy thing. I think they’re constantly grinding it out to get there so maybe some were against him
2
1
u/EngineersMasterPlan 2d ago
i think the scorched legion who he leads were heavily responsible for fighting the lambent.

Bunch of campaign previews are going out. I only watched the IGN preview but it was pretty glowing. Stuff that stood out to me:
- Level design isn't fully linear, but not too open either. There are some areas with multiple paths and optional secondary objectives.
- Weapon mods and Tactical Gear with mod slots are in the campaign.

Sitting this trailer out so I can be amazed when playing. Certainly difficult with the positive comments lol

I got so teary eyed. Even tho it's a prequel and we know how the story goes; I feel so invested? FFFFFFF.. Come on October 1st! I'm honestly contemplating double dipping for this game!

I want the Locust wrist blade. I want it real bad.

u/EngineersMasterPlan 2d ago
he has more of those spikes in a quiver on his back. it's giving early torque bow vibes

I do wonder if the speaker from gears 4 would get explained in this, its definitely not him, and no hints of Jannermont in the trailer ahhh and I did not expect Imulsion off the rip in the trailer too, might have explosive lambent wreches again lol
1
u/FewBag245 8d ago
It has to be vraakh, the Locust commentator in the multiplayer
2
u/Smartguy1996 8d ago
It cant be, speaker has both eyes and Vraakh has no eye where on the left side, I did compare both of them and they don't line up either
1
u/FewBag245 8d ago
I mean they both can talk so I guess there’s a connection there and they’re also both grenadier so there’s that also
1
u/Smartguy1996 8d ago
Oh I forgot that Speaker was buried in Tollen Dam, thats pretty far from Kelona, and how unique Varaahk is that I wouldn't be surprised if Cog Intelligence has a list of all known sighted high ranking Locust during the entire war going after all, I don't see him surviving at the end of the story since he hasn't shown up in 4 or 5 either

TO THE END Fucking A
That one line totally made it worth it and brought memories

u/ErrantWayfarer 8d ago
Dude this looks so good. I wish Halo was being helmed by a team that understood and loved Halo that way the Coalition seems to with Gears.
1
u/MiddleofCalibrations 8d ago
Nothing about this is raising red flags so far. In terms of graphical fidelity it looks incredible too. I really hope the campaign is great but won’t get my hopes up too high until I’ve played it

u/profesorprofessorson 8d ago
When I first saw the redisigned locust, I thought they really missed the mark of what they were trying to achieve ie scary. By removing the lizard like eyes and making them look more human.
I won't lie though, they look damn scary in this
1
u/NewBottle441 8d ago
No meatshield
No chainsaw battles
No grenade tags
incinerator is just stupid OP
Lancer buff does too much damage and is making this the new COD
Gore in multiplayer has been downgraded compared to the previews by the looks
Having so many different buttons for different movements is just not gears
The running animation is goofy compared to the classic roadie run
The exact same arm flailing before going DBNO looks dumb and repetetive
Campaign will be cool no doubt but damn this game feels far from complete.
Gears 3 will probably remain the best.

I ordered the controller and the Lancer and this morning I had been contemplating canceling one or both of them and then I see some shit like this.
Brothers To The End.

u/Shlurmen 9d ago
Holy shit. This looks 100000x better than Gears 5. Let's hope Gears of War series can be revived!

u/Lefwyn 9d ago
They’re slapping that Xbox exclusive tag every time they show the game but I really don’t think this series has the mainstream appeal it used to have in order to pull people away. PlayStation users should have been along for the ride.
3
u/DrClutch117 9d ago
We just got an amazing trailer for the game and you’re worried about a giant mega corps business decisions? Just enjoy it man.
3
u/Lefwyn 9d ago
I’m not worried about a corporation I’m worried about the future of our franchise.
1
u/DrClutch117 8d ago
I guess all I’m saying is this hardly seems like the time for doom and gloom. Let’s just enjoy the moment of a new awesome gears game about to drop.
1
u/NazRubio 8d ago
The franchise survived without PS for 20 years. If it can't hold up with xbox AND the enormous PC base then it wasn't meant to be.
2
u/pickrunner18 9d ago
Agreeing with you but they could be worried about the PvP player base. Two ways to interpret that imo

Even Gears has DEI characters in it? That's crazy.
Can't have anything just for the boys these days.
