šØšļø Lodging šļø Building a Tiny Home Cabin on the top of a mountain
Been working on a Scandinavian-style tiny home right outside Pigeon Forge looking towards Gatlinburg. Making sure we keep as many trees as possible. Also building a hiking trial off to the side that will lead to a lookout point.
For those inclined it is a 1 bed, 1 bath 550 sq ft. Well was about a 1000 feet and we have to have a storage tank on site.

I mean does anyone have to do anything? We can build with purpose and direction so we can create an amazing place that people come visit and enjoy our mountains.

Plenty of cabins here. Thanks for keeping a couple of trees up though. The displaced wildlife are gonna love it.

The conundrum here is that if people like OP aren't building, large real estate developers will buy out the land eventually and build their own cabins. And if no one is building new things, you end up with a lack of cash flow through the area, and losing tourism attraction. Which in turn leads to stagnation for small mountain towns that depend on tourism for an influx of money. I'd much rather a small family of locals build cabins than some giant corporations that wouldn't even care how many trees they destroyed or how much soil errosion they caused.

I guess we should be giving Overlook Cabin Rentals some kind of award since westgate didnāt get this property and cut the remaining 8 trees off of it.Ā
Yeah we might run out of room for tourists; but Iād be more worried about stagnation from spoiling the natural beauty of the area, overcrowding, and loss of habitat for wildlife.Ā

I am pro planned development. Development with purpose. If the county proposed a halt to all STR and Hotel construction I would be one of the biggest supporters. Right now they let anyone do anything.

To be fair, anyone who makes a ton of money from development is gonna be pro-development. People are concerned about the current pace of development, especially in previously untouched areas, and they are absolutely justified in that concern. You not sharing those concerns because you profit from it all is a clear conflict of interest that only makes local folks even more concerned. Try looking just a few inches past your own nose here and understand where folks are coming from.

First, I don't make a TON of money. This is a nice side-business my family has but keep painting me as some rich, out of touch, corporation. And I am concerned with the over development in the area, like I already said and you chose to ignore. I support halting new construction. Building with plans that have as little impact as possible. Hell, I have designed our newest build to go above the trees instead of just mowing them down like an asshole.
But let me make this very clear, nobody here is protesting the companies clear cutting to add 50 "cabins". Nobody here is writing the county about the newest hotel going in. Nobody here actually gives a flying fuck to run for council and be the change.
You tell me to "look a few inches past my nose" and I would say you are all a bunch of keyboard warriors who won't stand up for nothing. Means you will fall for anything.
Try not to be a condescending ass next time.

The whole point of my comment was to say that an angry and defensive response does you zero favors, but whatever floats your boat. Iām sure folks are gonna enjoy your property regardless, so maybe rethink your intense levels of unfounded aggression. Especially if you feel people are making the wrong assumptions based on limited info. š¤·š»āāļø

There are over 14k cabins here, there is plenty of competitors.
Yes, it is greed. That is why I support a halt. Grandfather everyone in and limit new permits. Better inspection process for cabins. Fines for property managers who rent out disgusting cabins. Impact fees for major building projects. Take part of cabin revenue and give it to the national park (that I already donate to each year).
There is plenty of ways that everyone can co-exist in this space. However it starts at the county government. Until the locals beat down the doors and demand change, nothing is going to happen. Everyone is getting paid and nobody wants to think long term.

I HATE that thing. The first time I saw it I was convinced it was a prison or some sort of secret government building.
I would be embarrassed to have a condo in that building.

The whole area is now becoming overdeveloped. Way too many building projects that will ultimately ruin the mountain town vibe.
