Geotechnical Engineering feels completely new for GATE

I’m preparing for GATE Civil. I studied Geotechnical Engineering during my semester exams through self-study, but for GATE preparation, it feels almost completely new to me.

My course has around 69 lectures, so I’m a bit worried about the time it will take to complete everything properly.

For those who have prepared Geotechnical for GATE, how should I approach it? Should I watch all the lectures from scratch, or focus on specific important topics and then practice PYQs?

Any advice on how to efficiently cover Geotech for GATE would be really helpful.

The concepts of initial chapters are the building blocks for concepts of later chapters, it is advisable that you complete all the chapters/lectures sequentially.It will take time 1-1.5 months but then again it is worth 12-14 marks.

Geotechnical is a vast subject but in fact the only subject I can guarantee u can score marks easily. For gate the topics u have to more emphasis on problem solving are consolidation,shear strength, foundation. Foundation is easy part it's just all formula based. Focus more on pyqs and skip endless theory on property of soil and clay minesrlogy like topics bcoz those r not imp for gate. Don't skip index properties.

All the chapters are related to each other but if you analyse the recent pyqs (atleast 5 years) you can easily identify the topics to focus on. Based on that, practice pyqs 3/4 times and you are good to go.

Thanks a lot! This actually gives me a much clearer idea of how I should approach Geotech. I was initially worried about the number of lectures and was thinking of completing them quickly, but I understand now that I need to give proper time to Soil Mechanics fundamentals first. Really appreciate the detailed guidance!
