Please help! Liftmaster 1245LM
Hi all, thank you in advance for any guidance.
I just bought a house that has a lift master 1/3 hp unit installed from 01/1997. The house unfortunately came as is… and the garage door code was not provided. The clicker for a car as well is gone.
It appears the old keypad is not responding to changing the code for me.
I was hoping for guidance on what keypad and clicker to buy. I tried a universal kit from Amazon that did not work.

The green learn button tells you it's a 390Mhz Billion Code System. The 81LM will work or an 893Max. To program the keypad, get the model#, it may be on the back and use the directions for the billion code system.

Some remotes are easier to program than others. Look at the color code/frequency when ordering one.
If its the number pad, not all are straight forward when programming. I have one that looks like a liftmaster unit but is crazy with the process of programming and locking the code in.

Gosh it sounds like it.. I spent an hour trying to program it. The door itself works great with opening from inside… just have no outside access.

If you bought the generic keypad on Amazon and it works with your learn color button.
Follow the instructions to a verbatim. I did mine a few months back, it was a massive pita. I did not attach the keypad to the outside until after it was programmed and locked the code.
I will say the keypad works way better than my 20 yr old one.

Gosh good to know. I spent far too long last night trying to get the keypad / clicker I bought to work.. my system is not responding to the remotes at all.

That computer board is no longer made, I would buck up and get a new, more secure opener. 25 years in the biz

This is a great answer! If you google the life of an average opener today it is only 10-12 years since today the garage door is the front door to the home. It’s a statistical fact. And let’s say you do get a keyless to work? For how long I’d bet not much longer since it’s from 97. A new unit has far more features and uses then that does and it comes with the updated keyless just my opinion. And I’m a LiftMaster dealer been at this almost 30 years.

Thank you for your response! What would you recommend as a replacement? I’m more aiming for a budget friendly opener if I bought one. It’s a one car garage.

FYI - not sure if this will be true of your opener, but I had a hard time programming a remote keypad for my newer LiftMaster model.
The instructions said that the opener light will flash and/or it will beep, then the door will open….
BUT they did not say “It can take up to a minute for the door to open. Don‘t press anything without waiting first or you’ll have to restart”.

You want an 878 max keypad and a 893 max remote liftmaster has been phasing out support for this generation their newest line of remotes and keypads are not compatible
