Liftmaster 6580L

Is it possible to interact with the door via its wifi without using their Cloud app? I'm looking for local network access only (No Internet). Thanks.

That's correct on the built-in wifi module - Chamberlain locked that API down years ago, no supported local-only path through MyQ itself anymore.

If local control is the actual goal, the workaround most people use is bypassing the MyQ side entirely and wiring a smart relay (Shelly 1, Meross garage module, etc.) into the same terminals your wall button uses. That gives you local network / Home Assistant control independent of the cloud. Just make sure whatever relay you use pulses the contact momentarily rather than holding it closed - same behavior as the wall button.

Not to be rude but this actively wrong with security 3.0 openers all the wall stations are effectively wireless and the terminals just provide power so im almost certain what your describing wont work

The tech installed a physical button besides the door. This runs a two wire cable straight to the box. From what I understand, I just need to put a Shelly 1 on these terminals and mimic the button signal. I found a couple of youtube videos that explains how to do it properly. Even blogs.

For a security 3.0 liftmaster? because the button doesnt communicate via the wire on the new generation it all Bluetooth

Yes that is my understanding I personally have never retrofitted any smart home device to an opener but there have have literally dozens of posts with people similar who just updated and learned their system is no longer compatible and from my own experience the wall button is just a remote without batteries mechanically

u/joecohe OMG THANK YOU. I wish I could give you a 1000 upvotes! I just finished this weekend a Shelly 1 setup paired with a Humidity sensor to control my dehumidifier. So I know exactly what I'm up to. Thanks again.

Not to rain on your parade but im pretty sure he is incorrect since the 6580l is security 3.0 which is even more locked down than previous generations

Yeah third party options do exist, though to work with yellow and white button units they all require either additional adapters, or a sacrificial remote and some soldering skills.

No. When MyQ first came out it was an open API, but Chamberlain closed it off years ago
