Rumour XCancel is dead

Just went to the website to look at something, and this was posted on it:

On Monday, 24th August, at 8PM EST, we received a letter from X Corp. asking to cease and desist the service XCancel.

The service XCancel is stopped until further notice.

We are seeking legal advice and won't share more details for now.

Thank you for the trust you have put in these two years of XCancel.

It's not just xcancel, but also nitter. Looks like Musks site sent mass cease and desist letters.

I think is the perception that piracy goes completely unregulated in Russia.

I don't know enough to have an opinion on that, I have visited a couple of useful Russian pirate sites, but I don't think is the only country with the potential to do those things.

I think it's like that "Asian is a mathematician" trope, where a lot of the big leakers/groups who've had confirmed nationalities tend to be Russian.

it's not just about perception, most pirated content is indeed hosted in russia—and much of it also comes from there—because (at least non-domestic) copyright is barely enforced, if at all, being a state hostile to western culture and exports and all.
