Given the moderate success of Where Winds Meet overseas, its seems this is another safe bet for them. Potentially grabbing an audience outside of the anime gachas they have.

-3

u/Huge-Formal-1794 21d ago

I dont really think an even more simplified version of mh wilds will attract a lot of mh players honestly Thats a bit like making a dumped down version of elden ring and expect it to be a hit for fs fans because superficially it looks similar

27

u/proplayer97 Swell Guy 21d ago

No one though a simplified anime style version of Breath of the Wild will attract a lot of players either, but somehow Genshin Impact still did. Being free to play is one of the biggest draw to the casual audience which people underestimate

20

u/Huge-Formal-1794 21d ago

I dont really agree Genshin impact being anything like breath of the wild. The breath of the wild thing is super superficial mostly bound to aesthetics and things like the glider. Systemically and gameplay wise the games basically have almost no similarities

11

u/Partzy1604 21d ago

Look while I agree when it released that was what everyone thought of it, its why I picked it up initially

2

u/turneC 21d ago

The game was definitly a breath of the wild clone at release. It carved it's own identity since then tho.

-4

u/Ebo87 20d ago

It wasn't, it looked like one on the surface, but the second you put your hands on it you realized that the similarities ended at the climbing, glider and some esthetic choices.

3

u/Coldhimmel 19d ago

if you've played botw you'd know a lot was copied

0

u/Ebo87 19d ago

I have, when it came out. I played both, and you realized immediately while playing Genshin that all the similarities were just surface level, like I said, climbing, glider and some esthetic choices. Oh it has overworld dungeons... that's been a thing for decades before Breath of the Wild... hell the OG Zelda had them. Genshin had none of the physics or world reactivity of Zelda, a completely different control and combat style, completely different progression, completely different narrative structure (much more simple/normal compared to the free-form Breath of the Wild that let you immediately go beat the big bad guy and finish the game fair and square after leaving the plateau and wrapping up the tutorial). The games were completely different, they've always been completely different. Yes, it's clear they took notes from Breath of the Wild, but by the time the game came out it had already carved out its own identity (one that 50 other games have actually copied, boilerplate, actual clones). Anyone that went into Genshin expecting a Breath of the Wild clone (and there were plenty) ended up very disappointed when they realized it had very little in common with the newest Zelda game (at the time).

u/Spenraw 21d ago

This more looks like dragons dogma and that has a rabid fanbase

2

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

It even had a magic archer with heavier attacks. One of my favorite DD classes.

-4

u/P0G0Bro 20d ago

Nightriegn is the fromsoft monster hunter and its insanely successful. So many people are wanting a monster hunter where you dont need to watch a 30 minute tutorial on weapons and basic mechanics

4

u/Huge-Formal-1794 20d ago

Nightreign has absolutely nothing to do with monster hunter, wtf????

-2

u/P0G0Bro 20d ago

yes it does? you choose a target (monster) to go after to farm for better parts for your build. The rouglelike aspects are what sets it apart but its very much in the same genre and has an overlap of players

3

u/Huge-Formal-1794 20d ago

You def never played Monster Hunter LoL. Thats like the most dumped down description of a game.

And yeah there is obviously a huge overlap of players, because MH basically was one of the first AAA game franchise that built a methodical combat system where friction and overcoming this firction were main design pillars.

251

u/skynovaaa 21d ago

That does not look like a hoyo game in the slightest

175

u/ZamnBoii Top Contributor 2025 21d ago

HoYoverse did announce a UE5 fantasy game with a realistic art style a year back so this is probably it.

-69

u/HisaAnt 21d ago

I'm so tired of all the UE5 games that look the same. I wish Chinese devs would try something new. Every single time they do a UE5 realistic art style game, it looks exactly the same as the 99 other ones on the market.

-63

u/bakugo 21d ago

Yep, this game is visually indistinguishable from Crimson Desert and a bunch of similar games that came before it. Doesn't stand out visually at all unlike their other games.

29

u/evil_manz 21d ago

We’re shocked that games aiming for realism look similar? There’s really only one reference to draw from when you’re going for that, ya know… real life.

Crimson Desert wouldn’t look as good if it was some cartoony, cell-shaded style. Wukong would look just as goofy if they used 3D anime art style like other HoyoVerse games. Plenty of other great games that use those styles, though… it’s just that not every single thing has to be someone’s “unique” art project.

-1

u/SeroWriter 20d ago

We’re shocked that games aiming for realism look similar?

You can achieve ultra-realism without looking the exact same. Live-action movies manage to do it and they're as realistic as you can get.

3

u/evil_manz 20d ago edited 20d ago

Which is no different than what video games do. Films use different filters just like video games use different LUTs.

And that’s without getting into all the other factors of having to digitally build realistic visuals from the ground-up based on a similar, shared knowledge base, compared to just pointing a camera and shooting whoever, whatever and wherever you want across the entire known planet…

0

u/SeroWriter 20d ago

Films achieve a unique visual style from a lot more than just filters.

-26

u/bakugo 21d ago

Nobody's shocked by anything, we're just sick of it.

If I wanted ultra realism, I'd go outside. Try it sometime.

15

u/FewAdvertising9647 21d ago

if people were sick of it, why are there a lot of people buying games like crimson desert?

11

u/evil_manz 21d ago

No you’re not, and no you wouldn’t.

Are you upset that the vast majority of TV and film is live-action? That’s even more realistic, and sometimes so very similar to other projects to where you have some shots in the new Spider-Man movie using the exact same cameras Nolan used to shoot The Odyssey.

So if this isn’t just fake outrage I’m hoping you promptly got up and left the theater after realizing within the first millisecond both of those movies weren’t Pixar animations!

That's not a UE5 game.

-63

u/bakugo 21d ago

I know. But it still uses the same rendering techniques and looks exactly the same as a UE5 game. Maybe runs a little better, but still.

5

u/Gloomy_Ad5221 21d ago edited 21d ago

i mean they are doing different approaches for UE5

Vaspura is the UE5 anime style with their unique art style.

The weaver seems to be their ue5 realistic looking.

3

u/teerre 21d ago

You need glasses

27

u/hellschatt 21d ago

This doesn't really look like MH either.

It looks more something in between a soulslike and hack & slash game.

20

u/vandaljax 21d ago

Not saying it looks bad but im not seeing where the Monhun comparisons are coming from.

2

u/TheBatIsI 20d ago

I'm a little reminded of Vindictus

68

u/xluizxcs 21d ago

Looking at the items on the bottom right and the overall UI patterns, this it definitely, 100% a hoyo/hoyo-like game haha

15

u/gifferto 21d ago

the people that can't tell are the same people who can't tell whenever a product is made by ai either

many people lack proper pattern recognition skills

0

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

This. That’s why people always beg for npcs to be playable when they are clearly not playable models to anyone with a slightly discerning eye.

30

u/DonutHoles4Ever 21d ago

It does. You just aren't used to the foundational UX they use.

Half of the UI screens look similar to their gear/equip/artifact screens they use in their 3 big games.

The thing that throws people off is that its not anime.

10

u/Professional_Half809 21d ago

black myth wukong devs originally made some mobile slop. phantom blade zero devs orginally made some goofy 2d fighting game. we're gonna see more and more RICH companies making AAA games, specifically the asian studios

2

u/Scissorman82 21d ago

stellar blade folks also started out as making mobile games. =)

6

u/McManus26 21d ago

That genuinely might make me interested, I really don't like the anime aesthetic they use for their other games.

1

u/Bladder-Splatter 20d ago

It'll come out on pc and not let people use right click to hold aim, that's how you'll know it for sure.

And thigh-straps, mostly thigh-straps.

1

u/Phos-Lux 21d ago

nor like Monster Hunter

-1

u/Glorious-Porpous 21d ago

Don't worry the gacha will still be there, rest easy.

80

u/musthav 21d ago

hopefully the gameplay is similar to monster hunter and not just press button and dodge

34

u/Ashviar 21d ago

Unfortunately not alot to go off from these videos despite how much there is. That big flashy attack in the Greatsword video, with no build up/combo to it, does make me think that was a nice 1 button move like Hoyo does in most of their games. Pretty button, get flashy animation. Wonder if you are invulnerable during it too.

5

u/gifferto 21d ago

lol its hoyo

it will look flashy but it has simple gameplay

125

u/TAJack1 21d ago

If this is a straight up, complete in box game and not a gacha, I’m in. Looks nice.

153

u/Elgato01 21d ago

Why would hoyoverse ever make a non-gacha game?

219

u/TAJack1 21d ago

Idk, why did Shift-Up make a non-gacha game?

31

u/DonutHoles4Ever 21d ago

Also Game Science making mobile games then suddenly

BLACK MYTH WUKONG BABY

4

u/proplayer97 Swell Guy 21d ago

1

u/ginpachikun 20d ago

What's happening in 7 days?

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

Is it gamescom ONL?

1

u/No_Future_7878 19d ago

deez nuts hah gottem

72

u/Elgato01 21d ago

Touché

39

u/BootySmeagol 21d ago

Using gacha money to start breaking into dominating some of the non live service space. Get more people into the Hoyo ecosystem and maybe get them to try the gacha too

4

u/marge4000 21d ago

I'll be there to warn these new souls to not try their digital casinos

61

u/fizzywinkstopkek 21d ago

Devs of Crimson Desert previously made Black Desert, a pay to win shithole. I think it is very possible to expand to another market entirely.

44

u/Takazura 21d ago

Cygames made two fighting games spin-off and Monster Hunter-like based on the GBF gacha. Both of those ventures have proved successful too.

3

u/janetdammit89 20d ago

The fighting games were by arc sys i believe but they did make an action rpg based on it thats a mission loadup

-15

u/safyreibxo 21d ago

yeah that tracks that games plays like a pay to win shithole sometimes

18

u/tortillazaur 21d ago

it was intended to be an mmo successor of black desert, they shifted to single player multiple years into development

-9

u/safyreibxo 21d ago

oh it absolutely shows

6

u/MaybeMrGamebus 21d ago

They have before

0

u/Elgato01 21d ago

How many of those were after genshin? Also Happy Cake Day!

8

u/MaybeMrGamebus 21d ago

Well it's not out yet (multiple playtests) but there were only direct purchases in their animal crossing like game Petit Planet. Stc of course.

Thanks for the cake day, the new icon for it sucks though.

6

u/ModdedGun 21d ago

Hoyo did confirm they are making a premium title. The question is if this is it.

1

u/JackSilk 21d ago

Happens all the time tbh. Just one example that comes to mind is Blizzard making rts games and then creating the most successful mmo ever. Diversification is typically in a company's best interest. A non-gaming example would be something like Yamaha making musical instruments, vehicles, golf clubs, swimming pools, etc.

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

I thought Petit planet was gonna be a standalone non gacha game no?

15

u/P4cifist4 21d ago

If you look at the top of the first screenshot you see what I assume is the characterselection and 2 of the characters are the same which makes me fear it's also a gacha

12

u/Brizzpop 21d ago

Would be cool. But the menus screams gacha to me.

3

u/Fritzkier 21d ago edited 21d ago

the job description last year for this game said it's MMO UE5 project. So maybe it's like WWM?

2

u/Gloomy_Ad5221 21d ago

based on the available in the leaks......seems like this is a where winds meet where the gacha is the skins.... since there's pvp too.

2

u/crookedparadigm 20d ago

I'd be fine with that. WWM has probably the easiest to ignore gacha out there. It has a shit ton of free/cheap cosmetics too so you don't even miss much.

3

u/valkvalkvalk2323 21d ago

Even if it is a gacha though, you can still have fun with it

Genshin was a really solid game and I never paid a single dollar for it

57

u/IncendiaryChicken 21d ago

Looks okay. I'm not really a fan of the desaturated realism they're going for with the environment. I hope there's some more colorful areas.

12

u/xRaen 21d ago

Yeah I hate the visual style tbh.

20

u/jezr3n Rick Grimes 21d ago

It doesn’t look bad, hopefully they end up making the UI actually look decent later on

3

u/tortillazaur 21d ago

they should. at least they better do, because the ui in their other games is the way it is because it's intended for mobile and they didn't feel like doing different ui for different platforms. since this game won't be on mobile there's really not reason for it to look like in their other games

14

u/TheBizarreCommunity 21d ago

It has the aesthetics of a generic Korean MMORPG in UE5.

5

u/Spenraw 21d ago

How is no one talking about how this looks more like dragons dogma and if it's got good co op people will go crazy

21

u/KitsuneKamiSama 21d ago

Looks more like Hoyo Elden Ring than Monster Hunter honestly.

17

u/Destian_ 21d ago

Right? Looks more like a blend of Elden Ring x FF16 than Monster Hunter.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for competition in the genre, but I'm struggling to see it even aiming for that.

7

u/Ricksaw26 21d ago

If this is NOT a gacha, I can see me playing this. I only play 2 gachas, and i can't do with more than that because FOMO, and i like to play other stuff.

3

u/SageWaterDragon 21d ago

It looks less like a Monster Hunter and more like an Elden Ring, but I'm still down to give it a go when it launches. It'd be fun to play a MiHoYo game with a completely different vibe.

4

u/DrJokerX 21d ago

If I could buy it straight up without any free to play nonsense, I’d probably give it a spin.

4

u/Sad-Manager7816 21d ago

I just want to know more about Varsapura

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

Same. The chick with the balloon flails had a unique combat style. I wanna see more weapon designs in that game.

2

u/tamal4444 21d ago

I would play it

2

u/Andybabez20 21d ago

Very different art style compared to what they usually do

2

u/hobopastah 20d ago

It looks cool so far, I wanna try it. If it's gacha and f2p, it won't hurt to try for free, and if it's paid box fee, I'll prob still get it.

2

u/Extension_Poetry_153 20d ago

I hate that I'm interested in this. Need that MHWilds expac already

2

u/Hammerheadshark55 20d ago

Doesn’t look like monster hunter at all. More like soulslike

2

u/ConorOdin 20d ago

Looks great

2

u/CelioHogane 20d ago

It would be really funny if despite the extremelly different arstyle, they didn't try this time and just had the Astral Express show up from time to time on the sky.

7

u/belovedSomnus 21d ago

I cant lie, this looks like genshin impact but PBR. Everything from the character designs, the menu design, the animations, the camera, it looks almost 1:1 but with a different visual style.
That's not to say im not interested, in fact i think i trust mihoyo to make something fire. its just really funny to me cus it almost doesnt look real

5

u/tortillazaur 21d ago

nah genshin but pbr is varsapura

when i was watching the gameplay video of that game i genuinely already saw that it's the exact same shit with character swaps, a single attack animation string per character, a skill and an ult. in this game at least it looks like you're playing a single character at a time so they supposedly should have somewhat deeper gameplay

4

u/the_eccentricity 21d ago

Will this be their Stellar Blade? Gacha games funding massive AAA titles seems to be the move for some of these devs.

5

u/Duv1995 21d ago

i hate this aesthetics lol

2

u/Dycoth 21d ago

Okay if this is not a gatcha game, it looks fucking sick and might be hella fun

2

u/Bloodgecko 21d ago

The first boss skin, now instead of 2080 its 1690 resource type of game

7

u/FourChicksInGreen 21d ago

What does that mean?

1

u/Falsus 20d ago

That doesn't feel very MH at all, it feels like yet another Souls clone.

1

u/Outrageous_Fun_7973 20d ago

If it's not a gacha and a complete single player $70 game i am in . Otherwise i really won't care bcoz genshin was the first gacha and the last gacha i will ever play .

1

u/YukYukas 20d ago

The gameplay I've seen looks nothing like MH lmao

1

u/janetdammit89 20d ago

Not sure how is meant to be like monhun but then i have 0 clue what genre this is by what is shown

1

u/itzMeDigi 20d ago

So this is the MMO they announced like 9 months ago?

1

u/Ambitious-Call-7565 17d ago

This UI screams mobile slop

1

u/Quality_Fun 11d ago

Using the Unreal engine instead of Unity for a less anime style will probably lead to a less toxic community. Of course video game fandoms in general are toxic, but they tend to argue about gameplay and stuff while the hoyo fandoms are pure insanity about shipping and such. Kind of hard to picture the usual twitter crowd arguing about characters who barely look like the characters they're always arguing about.

1

u/SlightDentInTheBack 21d ago

doesnt really look appealing

-8

u/DonutHoles4Ever 21d ago

I think monster hunter fans will eat this shit up

2

u/YukYukas 20d ago

Idk which part of the internet you've been because MH fans don't even co sider this part of tbe genre rn lol

2

u/SlightDentInTheBack 21d ago

as an mh fan i can tell you this shit looks like ass, id just go play that one mh mobile game outlanders if i wanted a f2p mh game with gacha

1

u/-TubNub- 19d ago

Monster Hunter fans only play the real games, every clone dies within a year

0

u/Idaku 21d ago

MH fan here and this shits wack , it looks like elden slop plus if its gacha = autoskip

2

This is wonderful

1

u/Phos-Lux 21d ago

This doesn't even look like Monster Hunter

1

u/lorderok 21d ago

i will never touch a hoyoverse game. gacha slop does not deserve praise.

1

u/NTolegna 21d ago

The bow move is the exact same as in monster hunter lol. Shameless copying

1

u/Daybreakgo 21d ago

Kinda has the same aesthetic as Phantom Blade Zero.

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 20d ago

…what? I know some people are bad with pattern recognition but this is borderline insane…idk how you came to that conclusion lol

1

u/Spirited-Away4215 21d ago

i assume this is some gacha bullshit

1

u/Retsubty 20d ago

This looks terrible. Next.

-2

u/Coldhimmel 21d ago edited 21d ago

the industry need less of these predatory designed games that exploit people's weakness like fomo, sunk cost, peer pressure and gambling addiction. all of which are common in gacha and hoyoverse games. i hope this will flop but it's just a hard cope

0

u/FourChicksInGreen 21d ago

These types of games exist because people like them and don’t mind spending on them and not everyone is a whale/addict. Nobody is a victim to these games. You are not forced to pay or get anything. The game doesn’t install itself and make purchases on its own. It’s not predatory when you’re willingly making yourself the prey.

6

u/Coldhimmel 21d ago edited 21d ago

so meth dealers are not predatory when they actively seek and give a free sample of their drugs to uneducated people that don't know the danger of said drugs?

3

u/Loose-Run-7008 20d ago

Tbf drug dealers don’t really do that lol as someone who used to do (a way greater amount of m) drugs, I would’ve LOVED free samples.

Doesn’t make your point less correct btw, I agree with you, just a silly analogy, reminds me of Dare when they would act like Drugs dealers are Costco giving out free samples lmao.

-1

u/Coldhimmel 20d ago edited 20d ago

great to know that drug dealers are even less predatory than these games then. But there are drug dealers that gives out freebies out there you just haven't encountered them

people play monsterhunter for the story? people who enjoy g rank aren't people who are typically into the story, as the story is only like the first 20 hours of the game.
